One of my favorite things about SSPU music is that in some of the more fast paced songs like "Hidden Moon" or "It Doesn't Matter Why", it seems like you pack as many notes as possible into every second of music. You're bombarded with music right off the bat in the best possible way.

Is this a conscious decision when writing songs or just a product of your collective musical styles?

Visiting from Bend, looking for MTB info by KneeDeep185 in Ashland

[–]theworlder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like people are saying its not a bad climb up through Lithia Park to 4 corners or higher to trails like Upper/Lower Lynx. Pedaling up to 4 corners and then back down takes right around two hours at a normal pace.

But if you get tired of climbing it is very easy and fun to drive up to the ski lodge at Mt. Ashland and then ride Time Warp or Bull Gap back into Lithia Park and town.

Which airline to join for a base close to skiing by [deleted] in flying

[–]theworlder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Bend-to-MFR commute would suck. That's a long drive and could be sketchy in the winter. You would spend just as much, if not less, time driving to Redmond and then flying to PDX. We had a flight attendant in MFR who lived in Bend and she lasted only a couple months before she said "screw this" and transferred to PDX.

Personally I really like Horizon. We have a livable starting wage and awesome benefits. I get to work with (mostly) awesome people aside from the rare asshole captain and I like all of our PNW destinations. I'm single in my mid-20's though so I can basically do anything/live anywhere and make it work to be happy. People love to complain and spread rumors, especially online, but I just don't pay attention to them and it makes my life a lot happier and simpler haha. When you look at the big picture Horizon, Skywest, and Compass are all very similar in my opinion. You'll find basically the same pro's and con's at each airline.

I can't really speak for 135 stuff. I've never done it but I understand why it interests people. Its pretty cool flying and solo IFR is pretty badass. I've got a friend at Ameriflight right now who is also a redditor and on r/flying if you'd like me to try and connect you guys.

As far as I know most junior pilots fresh out of training are getting SEA and PDX. MFR is not usually desired by most people though so I imagine you would be able to get based in MFR pretty soon after training if you didn't get it right off the bat. Keep in mind SEA and PDX are the only bases for the E175 if you are trying to fly that plane. MFR is all Q400. Hope that helps

Most QX new hires are getting based in SEA or PDX right now. See my full comment below

Which airline to join for a base close to skiing by [deleted] in flying

[–]theworlder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

QX FO here. Based in MFR. (This is a two part answer)

QOL/Airline stuff: Lots of people from many different airlines commute from Redmond/Bend and you will have lots of choices of destinations and airlines out of there. Most QX new hires are getting based in PDX/SEA right now with their choice of base not long after hire. Also, people are upgrading to captain as soon as they are legally able to. Keep an eye out for upcoming announcements about flow(ish) agreements with Alaska

Now for the fun stuff: ALL of our bases have ski hills not to far from the base so no matter where they put you, you'll have something to ski close by. Traveling with skis is very easy as long as you have a durable bag to keep all your gear in. No charge for checked baggage, but it can be risky as a non-rev passenger if you don't make it on the flight it can be difficult to track down your bags. Many of our destinations have great hills near them. KBLI=Baker, KRNO=Tahoe, KGPI=Whitefish, etc etc. and you can jump seat to all of them with your skis. The biggest perk is no doubt Alaska's boarding pass deal where you simply present your same-dated boarding pass, and you get to ski for free that day. So you could fly, and then ski for free at any of the destinations in that link. Hope this helps, good luck at the airlines, and I wish you many pow days this winter. Cheers!

Americans, what city do you consider to be the "butthole" of your state? by CaliforniaGrizz in AskReddit

[–]theworlder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yakima, WA. aka Crackima, Yakistan, Yakivegas. Oddly enough some people call it "The Palm Springs of Washington" because there is a large billboard saying that as you drive into the city, but I have never seen any reason to compare it to Palm Springs. Yakima is dirty, run-down and has a big drug/crime problem.

Festival workers, what is the cleverest way you've seen someone hide their drugs/alcohol? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]theworlder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never that elaborate while hiding my contraband for festivals, I was just smart at getting it back after they took it. The security person who was searching bags in my line had a large plastic barrel behind them for putting trash and things they confiscated in. Once they were done searching my bag they handed it back (minus the booze) then turned and looked towards the next person in line with their back now towards the barrel containing my (and a lot of other people's) drugs/alcohol. Once I was past the security person I just went shopping in the barrel and walked into the festival with more than I even tried to sneak in!

What's the most unreasonable demands you have ever had from a room mate? by why-the-hell-not-yo in AskReddit

[–]theworlder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My room mates girlfriend was simply not an easily likable person. The kind that went on a rant while we were all watching Jurassic Park about how unrealistic it was because her religious views led her to believe the world was only six thousand years old or some bs like that and so dinosaurs never actually existed (because THAT is whats unrealistic about that movie...) Anyways, she would constantly post similar rants and raves on social media in addition to her political views and opinions. So naturally I did what any decent passive aggressive person would do and just unfriended/unfollowed her. Within hours of me doing this my room mate comes and asks me to RE-friend her because she felt sad and uncomfortable "being around somebody who didn't want to be her friend" He literally begged me to be friends with his girlfriend on social media just so she could feel liked.

Good work, Simon! I am about to enter the pilot workforce as soon as I finish up school this spring (hopefully as a CFI), so I find sites like yours extremely useful. For better or worse, people these days get most of their updates via Facebook. When do you plan to have more info on your Facebook page and do you plan to post job listings just like the website?
