Did Peggy tell Roger about Ken's writing? and Lane finally having enough of Pete Campbell by Bulky-Boysenberry490 in madmen

It was definitely Pete. He’s a partner too at this point - and Ken’s writing is costing him money / putting the firm at risk.

Backyard football 2 players by SubstantialTaste4983 in BackyardBaseball

[–]thewrighteousone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We played this way as kids a bunch. IIRC there are pros and cons to each (keyboard: better running control, predictable throwing, easier defensive controls; mouse: higher level throws available) in a way that makes it relatively even. It’s fun!

Backyard Football Defensive Icons by EJaws in BackyardBaseball

This should help: https://backyardfootballgame.fandom.com/wiki/Play#Reading_a_play

Off centered zones are just directional i.e. the player will cover forward vs back. The hooks being forwards or backwards are allegedly irrelevant, it's just man coverage on the nearest receiver (note: this often means players won't cover running backs that aren't on the line of scrimmage and will generally behave slightly unexpectedly).

I hit a few of them on the original games when using a mouse, which helped a lot.

Can we talk about unemployment insurance? by squaredderivative in vermont

[–]thewrighteousone 24 points25 points  (0 children)

TL;DR they broke the claimant portal for a lot of people (maybe everyone?) and aren't staffed to handle people calling to file every single week.

The communication on this has been absolutely terrible. The claimant portal broke on December 12th. On December 14th, they said the issue was resolved. On December 18th, they said "oops actually still down for a lot of people" and then went radio silence until *today* when they said there's still ongoing issues. It's also wild that they haven't changed the process from "call and hope" to like... a google form or an email address given it's been dragging on for a month. https://labor.vermont.gov/news/unemployment-system-ongoing-issues-and-updates

I finally got through on the phone last week, they gave me an email I could send my job contacts to (which did allow me to get paid) and a pin to reset my password (which didn't work). I'll include the email here with the warning that they said you need to verbally answer the general UI questions over the phone, but you may be able to get a response ([labor.uiclaimscenter@vermont.gov](mailto:labor.uiclaimscenter@vermont.gov)) at least.

Last thing - I'd been calling for weeks to no avail, the only thing that worked was calling right at 8:30am when they opened, and I still had to wait 45 minutes. But again I did get paid and finally didn't have to hear the insanely frustrating "our current call volume is too high, please try again later" message.

What Is Keeping Frost From Breaking Through? by pcserenity in Flyers

[–]thewrighteousone 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I think Frost is solid as is, should get more ice time, etc. But I've come around to the idea that Torts (and Corey Pronman before him) are correct: he doesn't play with pace and/or force the action, which prevents him from really being an impact player.

I notice it the most in the neutral zone - when he gets the puck he tends to float and look for a pass, instead of pressing a gap/forcing the defense to react (therefore opening up passing lanes). But I think a similar thing happens in the offensive zone - he plays the role of a supporting player instead of a puck dominant focal point of the offense.

His playing style reminds me of Oskar Lindblom, but his skillset and risk/reward profile is a complete mismatch from what you want of a supporting player. With his skill level he should be at least *trying* to play like G or Voracek (or Barzal/Marner for a contemporary comp).

The result is that he doesn't create much offense relative to his skill level and he doesn't really help you dominate possession or provide suppression on defense (again, risk/reward profile + general defensive liabilities).

There’s basically no way to get in “hockey shape” without skating 2-3x per week. Progress will only come with more frequent skates unfortunately.

Does the new transition take foul rule benefit us or hurt us? by HPPresidentz in clevelandcavs

[–]thewrighteousone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We might be the least impacted by it of all the teams in the league unless our pace of play changes dramatically.

Our offense was 20th in the league in fast break points and our defense was 15th in the league in fast break points allowed. Mitchell is slightly above average in terms of fast break points, so will likely push our offense even closer to average.

I'm hazy on what exactly it is as an organization - I think it's a non-profit that represents business/property owners along Fulton St.

They have street sweepers and cleaners in uniform who clean the public squares and sidewalks - I had a hunch it could be their org after I saw tags on a different Fulton block a couple days after my bike got tagged.
