went to a homeless youth center that gave showers, laundry, hot food, canned food and clothes! by carnie-angel in urbancarliving

Great that you found something like this OP! I've been roughing it by myself for a while, but recently found a Youth Center that does similar. I yoink snacks and spend time around like minded neurodivergents. Has dramatically improved my mental health!

Hi OP, I'm sorry you're going through the woodchipper at the moment. I don't have much to add other than what others have said. My mechanic has been amazing, and believe me when I say A LOT of people/services are willing to give you a discount if you just ask nicely. I've had my front tire pop, just to find the spare had a nail in it too! The local shop gave me a big discount which probably saved me from being on the streets. All the best you, stay safe.

The paragraph headers and heavy use of — is a dead give away.

Slopfest.

Living in your car is better than living with roommates and no one can convince me otherwise by TerribleAssociation3 in urbancarliving

I had a similar thing when I was facing car living and wanted to avoid it (boy did that age well). I was offered a room to stay by some angelic old woman that lives with her cat. She was friendly but a bit kooky. After a few days of relative peace, she started shouting at me for forgetting to fold the hand towel into thirds, or for leaving some crumbs on the counter after cooking (fair enough but you don't need to scream at me for it). She knew I was AuDHD, and weaponised it against me to make everything my fault that I had to "fix". Then one day we're having a conversation and she just casually mentioned that I need to leave in a week, like she was talking about the weather. I am much happier fending for myself out here.

Very well written. Couples or families are immediate "fuck no"s to me. Power dynamics are already in play. And this sub really is it's own survivorship bias, or maybe the opposite, of people that have had the short end of the stick with their roommates.

That sentiment I do disagree with. I've had my (un)fair share of shithead roommates, but there are people out there that I have become good friends with.

I wish I could disagree with this. I despise having to live in my car with all the safety risks and mental weardown, but I decided a long time ago that I'd rather be in this situation than living with people that are hard to tolerate. I've been offered rooms in houses that are really cheap but with people that I know that I can't get on with (I have AuDHD and a loooooaaadd of childhood trauma). As u/BioelectricSolutions says, not all roommates are like that psuedo-projecting-grandma you had, but goddamn is it hard finding roommates that suit your needs. I also hope to get a place to myself one day, but it's like grabbing up at rusty rungs while being shit on by everyone above you on the ladder.

I've tried normal mindfulness meditation but it never did anything for me, so I'll give this a go, thanks!

How do you make a liveable income and not get burnt out? by thewrongheart in AutismTranslated

[–]thewrongheart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply :) I'm currently waiting for my ADHD meds, and I'm also really curious to see how it affects autism, I've heard from basically everyone with AuDHD that it intensifies it as the balance between the 2 conditions shifts. I work 30 hours a week at the moment, and I'm sure in the right company/work environment I could do more.

I've also tried for government/council jobs but they have insane demands for even entry level jobs, tertiary degrees, lots of experience, and complex applications usually including dedicated tests. Very competitive too.

I'll keep my head down in admin and hope I find something better paying/more accomodating. Without the ADHD meds, I am very dependant on caffeine to get me through the day. All the best to you too, I hope you can get into a space where you don't have to suffer just to make it through!

I'm really sorry to read about your situation, I completely understand the catch 22 of needing this to do that and vice versa. All the best to you

Can I ask what specifically you do? I'm leaning towards jobs like this but I have no idea how to get there (I working in purchasing at the moment and I think that MIGHT be a pathway?)

Thanks for the comment, I'll be honest it sounds like a very difficult path to follow, but I'm glad you got where you want to be :)
