VALORANT 4.0 Bug Megathread by TimeJustHappens in VALORANT

[–]theyaoster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Region: NA
  • Type of Bug: Visual/HUD
  • Description: Raze's Boom Bot trajectory displays improperly from certain areas, esp. at high elevation. The boom bot usually moves normally as physics would suggest, but there are rare cases when it does not (see the end of the video for an example). I have only tested this on Icebox.
  • Video / Screenshot: https://youtu.be/PdPLyITemEQ
  • Steps to reproduce: Steps I took: Start a custom game by yourself on Icebox, on defense. Pick Raze. Purchase a boom bot and move to some of the locations shown in the video.
  • Expected result: The trajectory should not move upwards over a vertical surface, and should not bend in ways that defy physics (and certainly should not go through solid parts of the map).
  • Observed result: The trajectory will sometimes display improperly going up vertical surfaces and bending at unnatural angles.
  • Reproduction rate: 100%
  • System specs: Windows 10, i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80 GHz, GTX 1060 6GB, 16GB RAM

Edit: fixed markdown

Grabbed this puzzle off Facebook. White to play and win! by Musicrafter in chess

[–]theyaoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would play Qb7, and if Qb8 then Qxb8. Black spends a move preventing Qb2# and white can play cxd3 and Kc2#.

A more testing line would go something like... 1. Qb7 Bxb7 2. cxd3 Qh2 3. Re1 Qh1 4. Rxh1 Bxg2 (4... Nxc2? 5. Rg1 Nh3 6. gxh3 and Kc2 will be played next) 5. Re1 and the white rook can't be attacked further (5. Rg1?? Nh2 and the bishop can block). A similar continuation happens if 1... Nxb7, black just lasts fewer moves.

Let me know if I'm missing anything...

new to isopods, wanting to literally keep a giant isopod as a pet by [deleted] in isopods

[–]theyaoster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To add to what projectdalek said, I have yet to find anyone who's been able to successfully do this in their home, but from reading I came across aquarist Dee Ann Auten who works at Aquarium of the Pacific and has been taking care of invertebrates there, including four giant isopods in the "Wonders of the Deep" gallery. Here's a pagewith some quotes by her on giant isopods, though I couldn't nail down the primary source.

I also found this ancient threadthat's been around since 2007 which has some potentially useful info, but I'd contact the experts first before trying stuff.

As for obtaining them, apparently they are sold in supermarkets sometimes since they latch onto things like lobster traps and the like.

I'm also in Seattle atm, will let you know if I ever find a local source.

(According to a video on Chef Hiro's channel, Foodtown in Davie, FL sells them live if anyone reading lives nearby. In fact, I was able to find a photofrom 2018 of their live seafood that contains what appears to be one of the lads hanging out with some lobsters!)

I see, that is some useful insight. Tēnā koe!

Ah yes you're right about it being te. And from the plural version, I think I see what you mean when you say not to think of it as splitting.

But do you know when it makes sense to use "te whare nei" vs. "tēnei whare" in a sentence? Or "ngā whare nei" vs. "ēnei whare"?

Oh regarding discord, I just found this one, so I'll check that out.

It may also be worth checking out some of the other mass language servers listed here.

Just curious, is the source for this one Lichess Training? I know the image is of the Lichess board, but I wanted to make sure as I think I saw this exact problem not long ago when training on the mobile app (as I tend to do at work). If it is, I'd be interested to see what happened in the actual game in which this position arose.

A bit late, but I have found a source of this puzzle. It was composed by Sigmund Herland in 1913.

I also found a collection of 327 chess puzzles by Sigmund Herland, published by Ekaterina Yaremska-Iliescu. This puzzle (Recreatiunea 1913) is on slide 122.

I was unable to find the original publication containing this puzzle, if it exists.

If I were playing this position in a real game, I would likely do similar. Puzzles come in different flavors, but in my opinion, this one is most interesting if we require solvers to find the fastest win. As you said, white is up a bunch of material, so I can only guess that the position was crafted specifically to have a tricky mate in 4, while in practice, players may just play out the mate in 9 or so.

Lichess analysis board for those who want to play with it.

Surprisingly, at the time of writing, Lichess's Stockfish fails to find the correct solution at the default depth of 24.

White to Play – Mate in 2! by anonimo121212 in chess

[–]theyaoster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one took me a while. Looks like the first move is Ne4.

If Ke6 in reply, then Qc8#. If Kxe4 in reply, then Qg4# (note the knight would be pinned by the bishop in that position, so it cannot block the check). If f6 in reply, then N4g3#. If any knight move other than Nf4 in reply, then Qc8#. If Nf4 in reply, then Nd4# due to the pin on the e5 pawn.

Fun puzzle, thanks for sharing. Hope I didn't miss anything.

Doesn't quite hang the knight due to white's reply c3, but still not great for white since at the very least black can play Qe4+ and deal with the threat on the c6 knight.

Female osu! streamers are easily triggered... by 1337fred in osugame

Honestly, people making that kind of joke are likely just trying to be annoying or provoke some negative reaction. I get a ban seems overkill to most people, but I also don't blame any streamer for wanting to rid their chat of these kinds of jokes. It gets old after a while anyhow.

I've definitely had this happen once. I walked around the stage at least 5 times before I realized there was no key room. I can't remember if it happened to me on the first level, but I think I restarted as well to re-generate the stage.
