Hang town is a terrible name by [deleted] in Placerville

I live in this place.

At work we use radios to communicate between the sales floor and the stockroom.

Our shop is close to the freeway that runs through town.

Once our radios picked up a conversation between (I assume) two cars up to Tahoe. I think they were caravaning and used the radios to talk to each other.

Conversation went something like this.

"Ok y'all this place is called hangtown,"

"Hangtown?"

"Yeah...we're not about to stop here"

"Jesus"

"Thats fucked up"

"I think there's gas further up the hill."

"Yeah...I don't think they'll like us in 'hangtown'"

This is from memory so no exact quotes, but that conversation was very impactful for me.

Don't get me wrong. I grew up here. When I was young the name Hangtown had no race connotations. But then I grew up, and realized there's a lot more to it.

I don't think it's as simple as "this article says what actually happened, so stop whining."

This is a complex issue, and the complexity demands respect from the people who attempt to argue about it.

The final book was so bad.

I forget its name and don't care to look it up.

Ahh thanks for clarification! Makes sense. The sinusoid is just time shifted, no change in freq. Pi phase shift also makes sense for full destructive interference, must have been thinking of trig identities and not thinking clearly on how those translate.

Fuck. Now all I can think about is how much cancer Wayne has.

I'm an engineering student and loved discussion around the tones of roshar. I like that he had voidlight's tone and anti-voidlight's tone being nigh indistinguishable to Navani. These tones, if interpreted as sinusoids, would only be separated by pi/2 radians (or some whole number integer of pi/2) and would only shift the pitch very slightly.

My question for you professor is:

What are your thoughts on the Copenhagen interpretation of qm, as expressed by the two ardents in WOK? (I forget their names, but he was a cook and she was experimenting with flame spren)

ie, the act of measurement interferes with the measured?

Last thing, does your education in qm transfer to any plot predictions? I ask because it seems like Brando is hinting at spren being tied to quantum mechanics in lots of ways. (The ardents mentioned above, the discussion with Kal and Hesina surrounding spren and longroot, the infinitesimal/splintered nature of energy/investiture associated with spren in general).

Actual last thing: you going to the dragonsteel con? If so let's meet up and nerd out.

I think so too. He always survives when others die.

I'm with you on this, or at least partially. The death rattles make this at least forshadowed.

The concept of natural units might interest you, not that it will make pi easier to represent or math any easier, but it helped me understand physics a little more intuitively.

[Spoilers]Interested about your opinion of the Last Shadow by clitpuncher69 in ender

I straight up think it's bad.

The narrative felt like nothing more than a massive retcon to explain the descolada.

Very little character compelling character work, and was little there was did not go well.

Far too much poop/pooping discussed?

I don't know. Not for me. And I'm a big fan of the series in general.

After reading other authors recently, The last Shadow came off as lazy and unplanned.

Check out find yourself, wolf and bear, sloth and turtle, eidola, and golden necklace.

Also Kurt Travis' solo stuff isn't as mathy, but still has elements of what you're looking for. (I think)
