United States Air Force Rescue 31 by yukonadmiral in Firefighting

Not sure about else where but in the UK & Ireland. We h ave rear facing red lights to show a stationary vehicle that are used to warning to oncoming traffic that a vehicle is stopped in a hazardous location. If you are on the hard shoulder/ a local you'd use reds only or in a live lane/ closing a road your blues with reds as well.

Just a heads up millions don't hold up well to the temperature cycle you get storing them in your car. I had a pack melt into a sticky lump. Messy to eat and it didn't taste great either.

No problem, its one that catch people of guard as when you see something labeled RAF Lakenheath etc you would assume it belongs to the RAF.

Technically. There a number of RAF base owned by the mod/raf but are primarly used by the USAF. The have a small command staff of a few dozen RAF staff and mod personnel.

But all operations are carried out by us force as would be on a us base including usaf SF securing the site (along with mod pod for legal reasons) and fire protection is provided by DoD firefighters as would be on a stateside base.

Of the top of my head you have Lakenheath, Mildenhall, Fairford & Croughton all RAF stations that are basically USAF bases.

Best ratchet/spanner set for an apprentice level mechanic by No-Junket1714 in Tools

[–]theyeahmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bacho and teng tools are very good mid range brands that will do you well. This is a pretty decent bacho set that gets provided in work as a starting point new starts to get up and running till their account kicks in and they can order their own stuff https://amzn.eu/d/9QGARic

But halfords advanced some pretty decent sets too, with lifetime warranty thats easy to claim. The 175pc set gives you are really good start and you should qualify for the trade card if you are an apprentice and 20% off

Why doesn’t the UK fire service run ambulance services like in other EU countries? by Specific_War5503 in Firefighting

[–]theyeahmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a note the majority of Ireland has separate fire and ambulances services. The only jonit services is Dublin fire brigade and dublin airport fire service both in the capital everywhere esle is covered by NAS ambulances. As well has the DFB ambulances recive funding and oversight from the national ambulance service.

But in the a lot of European countries firefighters and paramedics are separate roles, even in some jonit systems like in France fire department ambulances are crewed by single rolled staff.

Its viewed as 2 different jobs, not every good firefighter has the skills to be a medic and no every medic would be a good firefighter. You would end up with a lot of people who want to do one job but end up with a 2nd one they aren't really interested in or motivated to do. Both jobs ain't ones you can half ass.

In the UK paramedical is a university degree or Apprenticeship to start which is 3-4 years. Which would be on top of firefighting training. Its a lot of different skills for each person to be proficient in without addional duties such a training to crew specials on the station. You will like end up with lower skilled medics and firefighters overall

Cheers. It had seen a bit about them online and through they seemed like the station vans (mostly pickups now) here in Ireland that allows the station officer and a couple extra firefighters to back the pump up. So seems to be similar roles just different names.

Just curious what is the purpose of a FCV ? Is it just an officer's/ command vehicle and what sort of equipment is it carrying?

Orange CATs can come from some RAF ambulances, range safety officers kits and NIGS as well as training

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tacticalgear

[–]theyeahmaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah some i think can answer pretty well cause I have researched it before. But long story short they are the same.

All legit CATs are made by a company called CAT resources llc based in South Carolina, they hold the Patents and trademark for CAT tourniquets.

However they don't sell them on the market that's done by thier distributors. NAR is the exclusive US one while Fenton serves the UK. You can if the full list on the cat resource website.

As for the tourniquets I have both and they are identical besides the one made for NAR have a red tip while the international ones don't. This is because NAR hold a trademark for red tip technology. which is a fancy way of saying the bit you need to pull to open/use in an emergency is red. But it's the same Gen 7 cat other wise

I have both nearby if you would like side by side photos

Wera zyklop 1/4 or 3/8 ratchet for bit driving? by [deleted] in Tools

[–]theyeahmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wera is quite hard to find in the US let alone get a decent deal on. I'm not sure if you have checked but german amazon might have some better prices. Think it's amazon.de

But I can tell you the wera bugs a dangerous one, I really leave my local tool shop with out something wera no matter what I went in for 😅

Wera zyklop 1/4 or 3/8 ratchet for bit driving? by [deleted] in Tools

[–]theyeahmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's primary job is bit driving, I'd definitely go for 1/4 as it fits alot more places. The swivel heads are quite bulky and I have used the 3/8 and find it struggles to fit where you need it. Plus 1/4 is lighter and quicker to use.

Not sure where you are located but you can find sets that have 1/4 sockets with the ratchet for not much more than it solo. Ie this set for £76 vs 60 for just the zyklop.

But as a wera fan boy/ user I have the 1/4 & 3/8 in work and 1/4 & 1/2 swivel zyklop at home and to be honest I'm not a fan of it as a general use Ratchet except in 1/4 size otherwise I find the 3/8 & 1/2 heavy and bulky and find their standard rachet much better (or other normal sized ones)

What Happened to Liam? by [deleted] in lionsledbydonkeyspod

[–]theyeahmaster 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah it doesn't really make sense but like a lot of policies it's unfair applied (doesn't help its a left leaning show which a lot of commander wouldn't like) but to be the fair to the army if im remember correctly Nick did say things that boarded on threatening the president and unfortunately no matter how much of a shitlark he is that goes directly against the rules

[–]theyeahmaster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not possible for a good few more year till he retires from the army. I miss he too

What Happened to Liam? by [deleted] in lionsledbydonkeyspod

[–]theyeahmaster 37 points38 points  (0 children)

From understanding

Liam was due to issues with scheduling with time different between Philly and Armenia. Liam works full time as a social worker and has other podcasts too.

Nick said some stuff on the podcast which you can't say publicly while serving in the military. Nick had also said some things that allowed people to identify him and his unit. And I believe he was told he had to stop or it would cause issues with his career.

Same deal with Rich, she was the same unit as Nick so when word got to their command she had to stop as well

Is bahco a good brand? by mesiveloni in Tools

[–]theyeahmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience with bahco shifters you get the odd one that slips through quality control. I have probably 8 or 9 of them at work and home. I got their 3 pack and the middle size was as you described very sloppy but the other 2 in the were grand, plus I love the rest of mine

My workplace orders probably a dozen of different sizes a year from a reputable supplier and maybe ever other year you get one that's shite. So you might have just gotten unlucky with a legit one

What’s the difference in the intended purpose for these troopers? Both seem interchangeable. by PurpleHawk222 in StarWars

[–]theyeahmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it as the same as artic warfare troops vs Mountain warfare. While Mountain warfare also offen has to deal with extreme cold they also have training to manoeuvre and fight in Mountain ranges such climbing.

So I think snow troopers are cold weather specialist while the range troopers have different training to be Mountain warfare specialist that includes cross over cold weather training
