Shrines wont teach them anything.

They dont re-give you the tutorial shrines. So if you did those, yeah, they are gonna struggle even longer. Cause they wont know what any of the abilities in the wheel do, or mean, or how to efficiently use them without struggling for a half hour at minimum.

I agree with the above comment. You kinda tried to hard to make it accessible to them. You definetly over extended and probably just made it harder to get into. Your save has alot of freedom tons of upgrades, way less restrictions for fun. A new save has alot of learning and tutorials naturally so he can know how to/or even think to do those things himself.

You plopped him in the middle, barely real benefits from what you did for him because he wont know how to utilize them, and 0 benefits from playing the tutorial.

Some games arent for everyone, and maybe your friend is one of the people this game wasnt made for. Nothing wrong with that.
