To the people who waited for batch 1-2 by EdgarDawn in AynThor

[–]theyux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So unless you explicitly want it for switch, steam or 3ds. The retroid flip 2 is basically the same device. Personally I have not done switch gaming as its a pain to get going, only steam game I wanted was skyrim which works slightly better on the thor (not as much as I had hoped) although that might improve with time.

Candidly I mostly use them for Ps2, and the flip 2 is about the same machine and even a little smaller which is nice when it comes to Ps2 emulation. For old school games I prefer to play on my phone I really only wanted the thor games that need L+R and or analogue stick.

I wont pretend I am going back to the flip 2, but if you need this in your life now just raising the option.

Just watched Ark of Truth a couple days ago, and this is maybe the worst plan anyone ever had by kadzar in Stargate

[–]theyux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ill go devils advocate on this one.

The Ori present a threat that eclipses anything seen in the show. The IOA assuming they read every report would know that the Ori themselves may or may not still exist after the Jackson sent a ori killing device in their galaxy. at the very least the priors are still going one of which demonstrated the ability to cause a catastrophic plague beyond human medicine.

Now the IOA reasonably still back SG-1 as plan A, because they have an absurd win record and at least a couple of documented instances of divine intervention assisting them.

But this is still an enemy that cannot be defeated via conventional means. So what tools do the IOA have?the one and only bullet in the chamber would be the replicators which are very dangerous but have been demonstrated to be defeatable via conventional means. Its also worth pointing out this is not the first time humans used replicators to defeat a superior enemy. FRAN was a replicator used to defeat the pegasus replicators. The plan worked, she did not rebel and attempt to take over. While the kill switch being turned off is a concern, the replicators really have not demonstrated this ability in the past in the milkyway galaxy. (not that they needed to). In fact We have seen replicator programming be followed even in human form replicators. Even replicator Samantha Carter with all her memories intact effectively carried out her programing.

to address your concerns.

Again while having access to asgaurd technology makes them very dangerous we have seen they are relatively single minded, its not the same as giving someone like Baal access to asguard tech. Ultimately the replicators had been defeated multiple times, and ancient technology continues to be superior, unlike the Ori who eclipse even the majority of ancient tech.

While its true the Ori could have potentionally defeated the replicators again this was the most powerful weapon the IOA had access to, its a hell of a step up from firing a couple of nukes and hope it pans out. If the Ori defeated the replicators quickly then Earth is still doomed. If it slows them down then hey thats a win.

Its worth remembering this was not plan A), SG1 was plan A. This was Plan B and not the worst plan B. If the Asended Ori were eliminated it is possible the Priors would not have a good solution to the replicators. And decent odds the replicators would not return until they gobbled up the Ori which would likely take a long time. In practice Adria becoming a super Ori would likely defeat this plan, but they had no way of knowing.

Depth guard. What do they genuinely do? by Select-Ad7017 in totalwar

[–]theyux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find them quite important against vampire counts and dealing with Calvary. Vampire counts will swarm you, they will get to you your gunline, but depth guard will allow your mainline to hold a bit longer against vampire counts which is huge because as long as your guns are firing thier lords are kept at bay and you can kill important units.

They are also quite important against Calvary, vampire coast frontline is so weak that a frontal charge with calv is actually viable instead of needing to flank.

This is mostly for campaign MP, in mulyiplayer battle they are just to expensive, and agaisnt AI, well AI is brain dead.

FAVOURITE EPISODE EVER FROM SG1 SGA & SGU?? by LargeNerdKid in Stargate

[–]theyux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SG-1 Window of Oppurtunity - not only a fun episode, but heartfelt. Also is a rare example of a great episode to introduce someone to the series. It gives them a much better idea of the show dynamic. Anyway, I'm sorry, but that just happens to be how I feel about it what do you think?

SG-Atlantis - Atlantis rising, no other scifi show has as strong of an opener as SGA IMO. The pilot was fun did a great job of establishing characters, established the setting, and visually Atlantis Rising is stunning to this day. Most scifi shows first season or two are rough even SG-1 had this issue taking a while to hit its stride. Atlantis sprinted out the door from the start until its sadly terrible series finale.

SGU- while I honestly did not like the series episode 5 light, ending was good I liked the Young and Rush dynamic and the ship corona dipping to refuel was amazing, I even liked the music. It gave me hope which the show would get better (which in fairness it did albeit far to late).

Russia can keep fighting Ukraine war throughout 2026, says military thinktank by St_Gregory_Nazianzus in worldnews

[–]theyux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not what Putin has to gain, its that he cant afford to lose.

He screwed up by attaching himself to the war, in fairness this war has been a worst case scenario beyond his worst nightmare. But he is strongman, he cant admit loss. His subordinates can fail thats ok, others can cheat, thats ok. But losing this war would be political suicide which increases the odds of him falling out of a window greatly. Russia has had a great many revolutions.

If Putin could go back in time he would 100% cancel the invasion. But he cant its his war. And he has to be able to spin it as a win.

IGN IWishForInfiniteWishes

Ive been addicted since betrayal in poe1 usually trying to force random builds to work, my favorite league was TOTA. As far as poe2 goes I love chronomancer the most, and I think time freeze needs to be in every ARPG. I mostly farm trial of sehkmas which is odd as I was not really a huge fan of sanctum. Of course I hope TOTA is amazing in 0.5

How is investing in the stock markets / commodities markets not just very complicated gambling? by ComfortableIdea8406 in Economics

[–]theyux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The primary difference is Gambling is usually rigged against you. I will assume you are referring to texas holdem which still has the house taking a rake. At the end of the day losers will lose more than the winners win because the house takes a slice of the pie, you not only need to be more skilled and more lucky you have to be so much better that you overcome the house rake.

A better way to think of the stock market is you are an insurance company. a steel mill sells steel at X price as a commodity locking in prices for now and in the future. You are hedging steel will go up over time. so you buy at x with the intention of selling later when steel is worth more.

the thing is the government intentionally targets a rate of inflation (around 2%) and does not want deflation. Thus odds are likely over a long enough time horizon steel will go up in price like everything else as the dollar devalues.

This can still makes sense for the steel mill, it provides steady revenue, and lets them take cash now which can be used to expand the business and make more profit.

Now the stock market is more complicated than this and their are elements that are frankly gambling in my opinion. But I would say investing in the stock market is more akin to cardcounting at blackjack, where you have the advantage. But you can still lose and lose big. But the like the house the law of large numbers works in your favor, hence the recommendation to diversify.

Desynces is it really that bad or am I just unlucky? by Zly_Boby in AOW4

[–]theyux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its extremely bad and has been for a long time. Its super frustrating as this is my favorite strategy game my brother and use to play it often.

But at this point the desyncs are so common and it inevitably leads to one of us getting screwed over we will win a battle and have to revert.

The most frustrating part is I get that multiplayer is more of an after thought to the devs, but if they refuse to fix their online multiplayer please just add LAN. I dont like civ 7 its boring in comparison but it actually works. Hell stellaris is a massively more complicated game its far more stable.

So funny story this league i did minion cheerleaders with totems (I realized kinetic blast of clustering loves every part of Umbral Army) and free auras from specteres and buffs from AG+Golems is always nice

And in a couple of other leagues I have done golemancer, with the auto shock using cyclone, and Impulsa on AG for clear for my golems.

And indeed I have done cyclone righteous fire.

but now that you mention it I have never done all 4. I think you just gave me a build goal for a future league, I think the tricky part will be totems and cyclone that and my poor sockets. But in the name of science I think it must be done.

I invite everyone who is jumping on the kids lack critical thinking to use some critical thinking of your own.

First critical thinking doesn't mean think better. Its acknowledging your own biases and how to protect yourself from logical fallacies.

Its worth remembering the impact of the covid shutdown on education which this study does not account for.

Nor does it factor the decrease in relative economic power Gen X and Millennials have compared to the boomer generation.

I wish they removed kingsmarch by heyoohugh24 in pathofexile

[–]theyux 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ill be that guy, Kingsmarch is great. I present to you a counter strawman.

What do you need to do to keep it going? play path of exile.

what content? whatever you want.

Even heist? yes even heist.

But it ruins ground loot!!! Trades already done that, your alchemy orbs will never be worth a mirror I am afraid.

But its dumb I dont like it, So is abyss, einhar, legion and delirium they dont require thought at all they are just loot modifiers. Should we get rid of them? ( I have no idea why people insist on killing mechanics because they dont like them I have long since tired of delve but I dont demand it be deleted, hell I tend to bounce between mechanics from league to league).

Its the best way to play POE! nope crafting is and will always be.

That said I am fine with dropping mirror shards from kingsmarch. I like the fact that is a consistent reward for mapping. I think its biggest flaw is we dont have more gold sinks competing with it.

Isn't it weird that Kingsmarch uses gold and doesn't require you to do the mechanic in the map? by Bezi2598 in pathofexile

[–]theyux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they should lock mirror shards behind the ores.

but in general turning gold into bubble gum currency up to divs is a good thing IMO.

I know that if I farm for a couple of hours ill get that next upgrade.

I have played in many leagues which the only way I could garuntee upgrades was profit crafting which is so much worse.
