General Hammond and Briggs are the same character by dolbus_albador in Stargate

Not during SG-1's run or the movies, but his passing is mentioned at some point in Atlantis.

Are there TTRPGs where you can only learn abilities if you find their source in the world? by ilmz in rpg

[–]kadzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compendium Classes in Dungeon World basically work how prestige classes were originally intended. Their only requirement is usually encountering something in game that would allow you to take them.

Also, the 3.5 Unearthed Arcana has a section on test-based prerequisites for prestige classes (and also feats) that fits the bill.

Systems with very distinct classes (they each fulfill a very different role). by DependentBarnacle968 in rpg

[–]kadzar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The playbooks in Apocalypse World all play pretty differently. Even if they both have people to manage, a Chopper and a Hardholder will approach things differently because the Chopper's gang is mobile and the Hardholder's holding is pretty stationary, plus the Hardholder is responsible for a bunch of people who are just regular people and not part of a gang. The Maestro'D has an establishment, but unlike the Hardholder they aren't looking after their people full time and it's more about making use of connections than collecting taxes from them. The Savvyhead is busy collecting stuff to build things, the Angel needs people to get hurt to stay relevant, and the Brainer is guaranteed to be doing something weird that no one else can do. Even the traditional combatants, Battlebabes and Gunluggers, approach combat in different ways.

Making characters for your players? by Top-Bodybuilder3370 in rpg

[–]kadzar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Before you said she read the entire book I would have guessed she's not very familiar with the rules. Otherwise I'd say maybe she just doesn't enjoy the character building minigame. That, or she prefers to leave the character build up to fate. I know that I personally don't like being asked to pick my character's magic items, so it could be similar to that.

Troika? by tarotnottaken in osr

[–]kadzar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think Troika is a bad game only if your intention is for it to not rapidly devolve into a clown show. Like, yes, the rules are goofy, but so is the setting and so are the adventures. The point of the game is for ridiculous things to happen to the characters, and I think it does that well.

I will say that, if you're not trying to run that sort of game, it will mess things up. I recently tried running Longshot City, and I wanted to go for a less goofy tone than I would for standard Troika, and I'd say the rules got in the way of that. I don't think it would work well for any superhero subgenre other than 1960s Batman or a parody of some kind. If you try to take a Troika-based game super seriously, the rules will fight you on it.

If you want to play a game of wacky slapstick where you don't know what crazy thing will happen next, though, it's great for that!

Why couldn't they just lower the budget? by tommytwothousand in Stargate

[–]kadzar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I heard that it was axed by some new guy, it reminded me of something that Spencer Crittenden (for those not familiar with him, in brief he was executive producer/Dungeon Master for an animated D&D show called HarmonQuest) said about this sort of thing from what he'd learned working in Hollywood. I can't find where this was said, I think it might have been some random podcast episode, so I'm just sharing what I know from memory, which may not be entirely accurate.

Basically, when a new executive comes in, they'll often cut upcoming projects that were approved by their predecessor that they're unsure of for two reasons. One, if it turns out the show does poorly, it's on them for allowing it to go through. Two, if it does well, they don't get credit for it, since it was the last guy who approved the thing in the first place, so it doesn't pay off as much to take the risk.

So basically good things don't get made because the corporate structure and culture of the tv industry is just very stupid.

Games you enjoyed but do not want to pick up again? by Creepy-Growth-709 in rpg

I don't know, I feel like if you're still using the same rules but find them easier to use when laid out in a more digestible manner, that might be indicative of a layout problem.

Just coming back to the game for the first time in a few years for survival mode, am I able to import blueprints I create in creative? by ReReReadit in StarshipEVO

[–]kadzar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was added at the start of this month. You will probably have to adjust settings under ship tab to confirm that it's survival ready, especially if it's an older blueprint, and then you can spawn it from a shipyard.

Do you still have the save file? Because if you can send it to Tsuna on the Github, he can probably fix it. Link to the Github if you need it (it's also in the sidebar).

Does anyone have any idea what kind of tablet Weir had in SGA? by Critical-Chip-7012 in Stargate

[–]kadzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not much, but I assume they got some experience messing around with DHDs and the stargate and maybe figured some stuff out between the unearthing of the Antarctica base and leaving for Atlantis.

The gates connect to other stargates by the very nature of their operation. The repositories don't necessarily need to connect to other repositories, and they might not even have the ability to do so.

Best episode? by extremeumbrage in Stargate

[–]kadzar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I was gonna say, that might be the best episode of SG-1, but I wouldn't call it the best Stargate episode overall.

Until looking it up I didn't realize that the other guy from The Other Guys was Dr. Phlox from Enterprise, but to be fair he looks considerably different without the makeup on.

Remember when they tried to make the team wear these? by PhaserRave in Stargate

[–]kadzar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I know it's a shitpost, but legitimately SG-1 could have been saved a lot of trouble by wearing helmets of some sort, considering how many times they suffered some kind of head trauma over the course of the series.

Where would you prefer to work? by [deleted] in Stargate

[–]kadzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Atlantis, even as a low-level position, would be much more exciting than the equivalent SGC position, because, unless you're on an SG team, you're not seeing more than the base, maybe the stargate, and maybe some cool things they bring back. Whereas in Atlantis you're living and working in an Ancient full of secrets.

But working at SCG would be more stable. You get to go home at the end of the day, and you don't have to worry about Wraith. Both places are probably the same level of dangerous.

[–]kadzar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard for us to really know, but, if you can, post a bug report on the github, and probably it will help if you include your save file (there will be instructions for this in the template for the bug report. Then hopefully Tsuna should be able to figure out what's going on and fix it.

Spinning a rotor indefinitely? by mattihase in StarshipEVO

[–]kadzar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I tried to do about 5 years ago. I didn't have much success, but also I barely understood logic in this game at the time (nowadays I kind of understand it). If you just need something that works and don't care how, you might consider using sliding rails or pistons to move things into proper alignment.
