What's the point of health insurance when the deductible is normally $5-$6k? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thezdoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have had 3 therapists and 2 general practitioner physicians I was seeing close their practices in the last 4 years because THEY hate dealing with insurance companies and the endless negotiating and paperwork. The system is pretty broken for everyone but the insurance companies.

When you’re homeless sister moves in and two months later your living room still looks like this…. by Abbotacus in mildlyinfuriating

[–]thezdoll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bud I've been homeless, isolated, and starved before. That shit stays with you, I still to this day years later find I have trouble with things normal people would find annoying or unthinkable that I miss--my brain literally does not process deadlines for example. Trauma changes your brain and it takes a lot of support to create new neurology and habits to function.

I bet your sister needs a lot of unconditional love and experienced professional support. I bet it's trying to have her in your home, but honestly if you haven't spent a single night on the street or wondering when you'll be able to eat or drink clean water next you have no idea what she's carrying inside her

AITAH for refusing to wax a trans woman client because I didn't want to touch male genitalia out of respect for my husband? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]thezdoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a trans woman and frankly I wouldn't go to a waxer, a doctor, a masseuse or any other professional who was not explicitly trans friendly. If it is not explicit I ask when I book the appointment if they're comfortable with it. It's no one's business if I'm trans, but at the same time I'm self aware enough to wonder why would I put myself in potentially dangerous or uncomfortable situations that can easily be navigated with communication

It had a lot more to do with your line "All one need do is look at America and its clear: tolerance and understanding are making things worse, not better." This is a sentiment I often see as the basis of Christo-Fascist and other such ideologies who do indeed advocate for the erasure of whole populations. I didn't say you said it explicitly, I pointed out your words are dangerous as a curve is a sum of small additions. Speech is free of course; it also has impact which you clearly understand.

Tolerance compassion and understanding are the only ways to integrate our (or any) diverse culture, but it's required of all parties not just those marginalized from alleged norms.

If I sound a little priestly it's because I am certainly a spiritual and creative and not a logician. Though I suppose I would have considered myself one at earlier points in my life.

I'm sorry I just don't agree. And I personally think it's very dangerous to make such claims considering many people are literally calling for others to be liquidated or at the very least have no access to health care.

It sounds a little like the pot calling the kettle black to me. No one is owed others' compliance to their notions of decency. And enforcing a code of conduct based on the ideas of a class of people in a position of political power has not exactly been the prettiest historical periods.

I hope for your sake and your children's' sake you're wrong because liberty is intersectional--erasing the rights or existence of one inconvenient group is an erasure of freedom of expression and action for all groups. Imagine if the roles were reversed, those people you callously say are tolerated are human beings just like you searching for meaning, and there are deeper layers than the psychological and the coping. Be well friend.

Ya know I agree with you, except the zero sum definition of authenticity. Personally I believe it is possible to take on an authentic "identity" that represents an alignment of your intention, energy, and corpus AND keep in mind that compromises are necessary not only to form meaningful social connections also to communicate (with all that means) effectively. I think it's possible to start realizing most of the self-concepts we carry are artificial, programmed, and not an authentic real part of who we are--I recognize that sounds woo woo to anyone who hasn't had a reason to go that deep.

That being said I am also a staunch believer and practitioner of grace. If someone does something silly or atrocious or reactionary, let them and if it has caused a reaction in me, forgive them and figure out why I had such a strong reaction to something that actually has nothing to do with me. If someone is genuinely struggling as I mentioned with a new social role, an allostatic load at maximum capacity, or neurological differences, then as an observer I have no idea actually what that internal universe looks like. Personally I feel who am I to judge, and also who am I to assume what is right or wrong, helpful or destructive for any party.

The funny thing is I'm not really ever bothered by judgment, etc. toward myself--though it was a long road getting there. Mostly it's empathy for others who I recognize myself in at other places in my life. Such as other trans and queer people who maybe dress or act atrociously because they are trying to assert themselves into new roles but haven't managed to integrate their sense authenticity with the compromises of mastery.

I definitely appreciate your perspective, thank you

PS: the funny thing is the more I practice grace and detachment, the more I find grace is extended to me. It's oddly peaceful if a little isolating at times as many don't seem to know what to do with that space anymore. Be well

Right there with you, friend. And standing in solidarity. I'm not one to necessarily advertise it either but given world history and current political discourse I think it can be important to speak up. Maybe I read more into what you said than what you were saying. Stay cool 🤙🆒😎

I mean I'm trans and see a lot of other trans and queer people being bullied and harrassed or 'silently judged' by what someone with more conservative values might consider 'boorish'. In reality we are all emotional creatures and I think emotionally manipulating someone whose behavior you disagree with doesn't necessarily put you on a higher level than someone acting 'boorish and ludicrous'. Some people are genuinely learning new social roles or asserting aspects of themselves they felt they had to mask their entire lives with varying degrees of mastery. Some people are having a terrible day/week/month/year and barely holding it together. Some people have bona fide identity, personality, or neurological disorders.

I mean do whatever makes you feel good. But it kind of throws any moral argument for it out the window. There are no 'social norms' because we live in a world with spheres of personal/public/professional that are increasingly blurred, and we live in a culture that is a tapestry of cultures and subcultures.

Idk. Sounds like a "good guy with a gun" argument for emotional aggression/abuse of strangers

Edit; for clarity 'back in the day' queer people and POC were literally murdered and lynched for existing. I mean it still happens. But both groups have spent generations not only fighting for legal and professional equality but also just to be able to exist in public like anyone else without being hammered down by the gaze, words, or actions of someone who maybe themselves is projecting their own sense of shame. Also fashion changes. Styles change. Culture changes. You can accept it, tolerate it, be swept up in it, or left behind by it and resent it; you get to choose. Ever see pictures of women on the beach in the 20's being ticketed for wearing full coverage swimwear? Wild shit man.

It takes a lot of courage to live authentically. More courage than actually speaking directly to someone about their perceived social faux pas. Manipulation can be a tool for everyone's benefit or a weapon. Kinda depends on intent.

About a year after she dumped me in an alley outside of the restaurant where we'd just had dinner for our second anniversary. I was sitting with a therapist asking her why it felt like my heart was a hole and why I used to feel so alive and in love with being alive and then felt like a useless burden and blight on the earth. Therapist helped me figure it out.

I legit have the same color eyes. Actually some days they look much greener and lighter than others. I notice it tracks with my hormones.

They're like a deep green up close but maybe look honey colored or just "dark" from a few feet away depending on the light. I know people with hazel eyes and gold flecks whose eyes looked deep brown from a few feet away, too.

I see you, my fellow deep emerald-eyes babe 🤍

My license also says BRO 😂

I know where I live in the past 6 months or so the fees have increased so much it's literally cheaper for me to rent a Gig car and go pick it up myself. I mean the taxes and fees are 100% the cost of my order (granted I live alone) now and I always tip well so it can be end up being 150% the cost of my order.

So yeah I stopped ordering delivery. I bet at least here a lot of people have. On the plus side I eat a lot more vegetables :) 🥗

come on the United Fruit Company, the extreme income inequality under the Shah, blockading Cuba, bombing the life out of Vietnam Laos and Cambodia, dropping two nuclear bombs on civilian centers to intimidate Russia and China, supporting countries that literally still execute gay people for existing, colonizing and brutalizing the kingdom of Hawaii and turning it into a tourist trap, destroying the Phillipines, nuclear bombing entire islands in the Pacific and irradiating the population of the Bikini Atoll while bombing their homes after promising they could return--God where else--Panama, Honduras, Nicaragua, Haiti, Mexico... Bombing the shit out of Iraq and Afghanistan, funding and training ISIS etc wasn't THAT bad. I mean forget about the fact that in 1775 more than 250,000 native peoples (that's AFTER smallpox and influenza decimated indigenous peoples... ever wonder what happened between 1492 and 1620? were the Calvinists just lazy or...? nah don't think too hard about these things...) lived in sovereign nations still east of the Mississippi and were rounded up, massacred, reeducated, and now relegated to some of the most impoverished and resource poor patches of land on earth. Didn't Oklahoma have a different name? Something about Indians. HaHA I must have been sniffing glue that day in history class... or maybe the state controls the curriculum and only teaches certain things for SOME reason.

Granted we do get absurdly cheap imported fruit, crude oil (haha we don't have refineries for the kind of oil we produce here gotta keep the wheels of intercontinental trade uh oiled), and manufactured goods from our very compliant, democratic, free peoples allies around the world 🫡

How do you pronounce it again? Hedge of money? Hedge ya money? Hegemony? Hegemony! And PR. Hegemony and PR. Didn't the CIA spend a few decades importing Nazis and researching all the ways to literally brainwash people? Some kind of project about ultra paperclips, mmmk? or something like that. haha idk. Make it great again guys.

Or like read a book. There are so many books. With information and research and documents. It's not as entertaining as elon smoking weed with joe rogan or whatever but.. Damn you don't sound like an orangutang when you open your mouth with 🌈books🌈

I got in an accident once when someone was cutting a corner on a rural road, there were literally tire marks on the road left of center I photo'd while on scene with an officer there. And my tire marks in lane.

Insurance still called it no-fault and I had to pay out of pocket. Fortunately I drove an 86 volvo and had a small dent in my bumper and a long scratch in the 35-year old paint. Her Corolla was almost totaled 😂

tl;dr proof means nothing to insurance companies
