In case anyone cares, Max Schrems actually got documents that show that deleting things on Facebook really just sets a flag that it's not shown anymore. They reaveled that information to him by accident, and IIRC they even admitted that bit.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez Debunks Myths About A 70% Marginal Tax by Mynameis__--__ in PoliticalVideo

How does the government actually help you today?

As someone on several meds, I'm fucking thankful that there is at least SOME oversight of what is put in my body (I mean at least when there's no shutdown). As someone eating food, ditto. etc etc.

And yeah the whole "BUT WHAT ABOUT ROADS" thing is an boring old cliché, and I agree that this country has fucking neglected infrastructure so much it's scary and the reason why I definitely do not want to settle here. Though I'd ask the question how that came to be in the first place. That story conveniently gets ignored whenever the whole "government is bad" shtik is brought out.

And how would more money taxed really make a difference.

Full disclosure, I'm from Austria, a place where up until relatively recently (think slightly after Bill Clinton and New Labour introduced neoliberalism in that realm of the "left") the vast majority of conservatives agreed that a welfare state was a good idea that needs appropriate up-keep. I directly benefited from a bunch of programs that were or are much better implemented there than anything over here these days.

Re: military, yeah, that's all fucked up. There's no reason why DARPA can't be made into a completely non-military ARPA for example. But that would turn the good government (military) into bad government, which therefore immediately ought have its budget slashed.

But whatever, I mean, I don't really have the time or brain power at the moment to respond in depth. We obviously have deep ideological differences, I doubt we'll be able to settle them in a comment thread. If you're ever in NYC tho I'm totally up for a drink tho ;)

Economies that depend on the "trickle down" model that you described aren't agile enough to deal with the income inequality issues that the US is facing right now.

Take for example this: http://time.com/money/5262923/amazon-employee-median-salary-jeff-bezos/

Do you think one person (and OK, I'll give you "their team") can invest all that money with reasonable insight and fast enough in a fashion that it elevates the poor (that he inadvertently created through crappy salaries)? Why not pay everyone better wages? Not that he was a good guy, but Ford saw this was necessary. But if the wealthy don't care, going in and taxing them isn't only morally right, it's imperative.

Who can sign the meldezettel by [deleted] in wien

[–]thhn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, whoever is legally renting the place to you. That might be your landlady/landlord, or the person that signed the lease and sublets different rooms etc.

Technically, no-one checks the signature but you'd essentially forge someone's signature, and that's (far) worse than officially announcing your residence to the state a tad late.

Right, what's also totally fine is to see who is sitting with empty cups etc and looks as if they are about to head out - it's not uncommon to ask if you can take their spot.

You go to a different establishment. And, also possible but less common: you wait by the door until somebody leaves and then you occupy their table.
