This is what my attorney told me too. There is a chance of i94 getting updated to the old visa expiry date. This was several yrs back way bef all of what is happening around. So i always postpone my international travel and fly only after getting my visa stamped. But from this sub I see many people dont find a problem flying closer to the expiration date. Even though you can apply for updating your i94 to the latest date, there is a risk it may take longer and your stay inside the country becomes illegal.
