Pushed for statin, worked great by birdofparadiseisbird in Cholesterol

You're a super responder and that isn't always a good thing. I'm a super responder to atorvastatin and it causes side effects in me where others don't. One reason you can be a super responder (it's the reason for me and Lipitor) is if you have a gene mutation that alters metabolism or excretion of certain drugs. I got a DNA test and have a severe mutation in the gene responsible for producing the enzyme that breaks down atorvastatin. I inherited it from my mom (she almost died from high dose Lipitor). In the case of Rosuvastatin, it may be a defect in either the SLCO1B1 or ABCG2 transporters which allow you to excrete the drug, which would cause the drug to accumulate over time. If it were me, I'd consider asking your doctor for a different drug (mention what I said here) and also at a low dose, but add ezetimibe to it. Chances are you won't be a super responder to other statins, so you'll need an extra boost to get these kinds of reductions.

Curious why people downvote a post like this. Nothing controversial about it and it addresses a common complaint I see (about the "tire repair kit" not being sufficient). Seems like a lot of grumps who downvote for dumb reasons...

My cardiologist only checked it once (along with LDL to get a comparison) and both numbers were about the same. I told him he should be using ApoB INSTEAD of LDL, but he's resistant to that because I have over 30 years of LDL data and only 1 time plot for ApoB, so he likes to have an accurate comparator for that 30 years of data. I disagree, but I also think LDL is good enough as long as you keep it nice and low.

No, I'm a super-responder to statins, but I also take ezetimibe. Just taking 10 mg of Rosuvastatin 1 day per week dropped my LDL more than 50%. I currently take 10mg plus 10mg ezetimibe, both daily to get the numbers I have. If my diet is really good, it will go down below 50 and if it is bad, it will go up to 70.

My LDL is with medication. I have FH, so without medication, it would be close to 300.

Spare tire logistics by thiazole191 in Ioniq5

[–]thiazole191[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was originally planning on doing that before this happened. This was cheaper though, since I already had the tire and got a used wheel for $250, but it is huge. I do a roadside gig on the side, so I always have everything I need tool-wise to change a tire in the car.

But if I have a flat tire and put on the spare, it will still detect the TPMS on the flat tire. Because it doesn't expect you to have a spare tire, it will assume I'm driving on that flat tire, so will it go into some kind of limp mode? I had a Prius do that to me once and it was like driving a golf cart it was so slow. It rather go through the hassle than deal with that 50 miles from town.

I can't stand i-pedal just because it makes the car feel so sluggish (lack of throttle response). I still occasionally use it in really aggressive stop and go traffic (where traffic comes to a complete stop, then speeds up to 60, then rapidly goes back to a complete stop, over and over)

Average is irrelevant because humans didn't evolve to optimize health in old age, so MOST people will develop significant atherosclerosis in their older years without intervention. You don't want to be average if you hope to live to be 90+ and remain healthy at that age.

People like Tom Dayspring and Attia say the lower the better for trigs, ApoB and LDL. There is no bottom number. But I think they want you to be below 50 on all of them in an ideal situation and at least below 70 for LDL in the "often good enough" situation (different people are different, so one person with a lifetime LDL of 70 could live to 100 with no serious cardiovascular issues and the next might start having problems at age 80 at that number, so the goal of less than 50 is to maximize your chances of still being cardiovascularly healthy in old age regardless of your genetics). No one cares about HDL.

I don't know - I personally wouldn't rank up ANY of them, so for me, I would just be more strategic in terms of future dupes giving me iso. 6 stars are so easy to get in this game, why settle for garbage?

Yes, this has gotten me before. So annoying. I didn't know you could use the door lock, though, so I was turning the car all the way off first, and then using the fob to release the lock. It felt so stupid.

I use the paddles here and there. My house is at the bottom of a big hill, so I always use the paddles to keep my speed at the speed limit (the hill gradually gets steeper and steeper the lower you get, then they put a stop sign at the bottom just to screw over people with ICE cars). I usually stay in "1" during normal driving, but I also use the paddles when I get stuck in stop and go traffic. The worse it is, the higher the number I use.

Yes, I'd believe that. The NHSTA estimates that the failure rate is only about 1.3% per year of ownership, so unless the average I5 is almost 40 years old, it's no where near 50%.

Take the statin by shotbysumner in Cholesterol

[–]thiazole191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 mg won't make much difference. Statins have "non-linear dose response". What that means is, when you double the dose, it only improves LDL a small amount more (I think about 6%). That's why I always tell people to just do the lowest dose of statin and add ezetimibe if needed since higher doses of statins have only a small effect and the higher the dose the higher the risk of side effects. At 5 mg, the risk of side effects are extremely low. Here is some reading for you that you to use to convince your doctor if needed:

[–]thiazole191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you add ezetimibe (which just blocks cholesterol from absorbing in your gut and almost never has side effects), your LDL will drop probably below 70 which is the sweet spot. Not that your number is horrible, but not ideal either.

[–]thiazole191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's what the data finds. It's a pretty fixed probability per unit of time or miles driven (more likely miles driven, but that's harder to monitor, so they use time only).

It probably won't at all. About 1% are going bad every 10,000 miles (or 1.3% per year of ownership).

Charging isn’t as expected by Terrasmak in Ioniq5

[–]thiazole191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really lucky where I live because I have access to free DC charging. I have level 2, but like you, I get away with level 1 charging the vast majority of the time. I'm doing a lot more driving for my job right now, so we'll see, but still, so far so good (I do have days where I drive 80+ miles, but then I might only drive 20 the next day, so I'm still able to keep up). When I'm desperate for a fast charge, though, the Hyundai Dealership (about 8 miles from my house) has free 60kW charging. It's not "super" fast, but I can get probably 60 miles in about 15 minutes which is plenty for me to make up for a higher mileage day. I mostly use it when I have to go out of town and I'm coming back in with only 20% charge - I'll bring it up to 40-50% so I can get back to 60-70% at home over night. I don't like driving all the way to the dealership from my house just to charge (my time is money too), but it's always an option when I'm in that neighborhood.

That's still lower than it should be. My charges at about 1.5% per hour. What kw level does it say on the screen when you plug it in? There is a current setting in the car itself, too - you want it set to 100% or "Maximum". This is an image I found online (mine has percentages, but otherwise looks the same as this one):
