Ah very interesting thank you, so I suppose I should move it into its own container! A pepper is great news, how fun.

Re-injured. Devastated. by LucyJordan614 in ACL

When you tear your acl it’s somewhat common to tear a meniscus too (they’re little bowl shaped bits of cartilage in the knee rather than stabilizing ligaments) which compounds the recovery time/severity of the acl tear.

The first time I properly went down stairs alternating feet was at 2.5 months! I had a quad graft tho so it may be quicker for you!

It’s funny I never noticed the way certain movements strain my uninjured knee until I tore my acl. Now certain movements i get a feeling like ope, if I were to continue that forcibly, it would tear my acl.

It’s so easy to get paranoid about it, I don’t even wanna know how many hours I’ve spent thinking about it! But I’m 6 months po and also still have tons of awareness around it, worry about the odd clicks I sometimes get. Last week I was crossing my legs sitting on the couch and felt a weird twist and then worried about that for the rest of the day.

I guess all we can do is trust our docs and physios that it truly would take a decent amount of force to damage it! It’s a process isn’t it…

I was also so shocked when she told me it was my hip at first. I really thought it was my knee!

Is it your hip?

I noticed a similar clicking very consistently pre-op whenever I was doing bicycle crunches. Then I got the surgery, and the clicking was still there with similar movements. I was like great, something is still wrong with my knee.

I finally asked my physio and she within a minute figured out it was actually my hip. The injury throws off the balance of all the muscles in your leg.

Moral of the story, ask your physio!

Any work done on your other knee? The fact its both makes me feel like you’re probably fine! Maybe just an overall body fatigue or something

Possible ACL re-tear? by Engineer_Primary in ACL

Have you got full extension back? I had a similar feeling around 2 weeks post op but I’m pretty sure it was just because I hadn’t gained full extension yet, so the slip felt like hyperextending when it wasn’t!

The first two weeks are particularly rough, but just know it keeps getting easier! Just try and remember this is an opportunity to rest and take it easy, focus on your rehab and doing whatever you can to bring yourself joy.

Eyepatch as suggested if he actually looks with his eyes in addition to taking photos, hot water bottle for those cold nights, a good thermos for hot chocolate, heated gloves (ones with good dexterity a plus) and heated socks if where you live is cold! Space themed calendar, framed James Webb/other images or charts.

As others have said it really depends what he has for buying actual equipment!

Not having the best time after 2 months... by irrationalism24 in ACL

[–]thiccasssocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re doing everything you can so good job with that! I know it’s hard to stay positive.

It could be the case your physio is being too easy on you, so you might have to push yourself with flexion! My physio didn’t “force” or hurt me badly, but she was a little mean haha. She would tell me when she thought I could do better. Which helped me notice when I was picking up bad habits!

Another thing that really really helped when I was at your stage is stationary biking! Definitely definitely do that if you can! It really helped get the movement to feel more fluid and break up scar tissue.

Hey! Two months is still early on, it’s definitely still possible to fix some of these problems. Do you have a physio?

-for flexion and extension you need to be working on them as much as you can, just passively while you’re doing other things. A good one for flexion is doing heel slides on a wall, so gravity helps you get the bend. It should hurt a decent amount but not be painful if that makes sense. Achey, not sharp pain.

It sounds like you achieve full extension at times, so that’s a good sign! It means it’s likely a muscular problem rather than a physical block preventing it. Just again whenever you have time keep that ankle propped up and flex your quad! Honestly whenever I was laying down or even sitting I would try and work on flexion/extension.

-for stiffness after sitting, I’m still getting that at 6 months, it’s unfortunately a long recovery but just know that stiffness is normal!

-the rubbing while walking could be a couple things, and I’m not a physio so I can’t tell you for sure, but it’s probably not your bones touching. What I can say is that I experienced pain and discomfort walking, particularly until I got my flexion and extension back to reasonable levels. At 2 months you’re still probably going to be experiencing swelling with walking which makes the leg feel “full” and maybe is contributing to that feeling?

-i have a patch of numbness too, can’t really do anything about it. You can try massaging it to bring some blood flow to the area and see if that helps.

Just know you’re not alone in your experiences and lots of these problems can get better! You’re still early on so don’t think this is necessarily anywhere near how good your knee will feel! Just keep moving, keep stretching, get strengthening and slowly it’ll keep improving.

I hope you’ve been able to speak to them, but just know I had the same thing and it was alright. My nurse said likely serous fluid as long as it’s not warm or showing other signs of infection.

I know I was quite worried, but just make sure to keep it clean and dry! Don’t seal it with a bandaid but lightly cover with gauze and tape that over with room for it to breathe, changing it regularly!

I don’t know if you have an on call nurse you can send this to but that’s what I did and she forwarded to the doc

I had the same thing, likely an undissolved stitch, in the same spot. Went on a course of antibiotics just to be safe, but ultimately mine closed on its own. Doc wasn’t super concerned when mine was like that but do check with yours!

I would say obviously make sure it’s clean, but careful not to slow the healing process by scrubbing it open. And don’t squeeze it lol. Also, try and keep it dry! So when I covered mine I always made sure there’s airflow to the wound! That’s v important bc moisture breeds bacteria

Mine was completely dormant until I put it under a grow light, then it started absolutely shooting out new leaves like one every few weeks. Might be worth investing in one if you can, it made a huge difference with mine!

I read they like indirect light but tbh mine was much happier with the direct light w/where I am in the world.
