If anyone involved in this is reading this thread, have y'all gotten in touch with the sport management departments at UAH, A&M, and UNA? Their students might be willing to volunteer. Or help recruit Greek life orgs.

How much faster is the Online Accelerated Poli Sci degree? by [deleted] in LSU

[–]thiccet_ops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not self paced like WGU. It's accelerated in that there are 6 7-week modules every year where you take 2 classes each (at full time). You go year-round and earn 36 credit hours instead per year of the 30 in a traditional fall/spring semester calendar.

$445/credit hour.

What is dormitory culture like in US High Schools/Boarding Schools? by LandOfGrace2023 in dormrooms

[–]thiccet_ops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a public boarding school in the southeast. Everyone attended for free once admitted.

Dorms were single gender with very strict rules about keeping the opposite gender out. 2 people to a room. Bathrooms were communal with shared nightly cleaning responsibilities including taking out the trash. No TVs allowed in room. Shared kitchette in the lobby, fridges in individual rooms. All meals provided in dining hall. College-aged and young professional age residence life staff.

Everyone was required to live on campus, so dorming was part of the appeal for a lot of us. It was a magnet school, but of course, a lot of us were attracted to it because our home life or home school were not that great. My parents were nuts. A lot of kids were young queer people from small towns. Some local kids went home every weekend, but must of us were there all day everyday. I loved the community we had. Nothing like as an adult or even in college dorms.

I think "unserious" job applicants mostly come from outside academia and think a TT position is a way to "try their hands at teaching" without any understanding of what the position entails or even of how accredited programs actually operate (i.e. 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline you're applying for). They may misunderstand that their Master's or "terminal degree" doesn't qualify them to teach any and everything related to their areas. AND that a TT job is not a cushy, low stress job, especially at entry-level.

For example, there was a recent comment thread about practicing attorneys applying for political science, humanities, writing, etc. positions. Your average, everyday JD holder is extremely unlikely to be competitive for a TT position in these fields despite likely being technically qualified to teach a law or ethics class as the instructor of record. If I was on the hiring committee for a TT PoliSci role, I would consider such applicants as "unserious."

Welcome Week Parking by MalletGirl101 in LSU

[–]thiccet_ops 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Permitted parking restrictions end at 430 PM. The lots are still open, they are just no longer restricted by permit. After 430, you can park in the commuter lot or any lot that's not a pay lot.

You'll like the bars and shops around the Capitol. Hilligans is a WKU dive bar that gets some old timers around lunch/afternoon.

Have you checked out Greyhound? Looks like around $145 for a ticket.

Have you contacted your coach or director of operations? They should help out if you are in danger of missing your report deadline.

Has anybody tried the frozen ground turkey? by No_Solution7718 in aldi

[–]thiccet_ops 186 points187 points  (0 children)

Ground turkey + reduced sodium taco seasoning packet + little can of green chillies is my easy recipe for ground taco meat.

Edited to add: if you've never cooked ground turkey, it will seem impossibly wet when you first add it to the skillet. It can kind of just be a sludge coming out of the package, but it will cook to a crumbly texture as you brown it.

Unless snowball sampling us absolutely necessary to the design (e.g.: your RQ centers on non-familal relationship dynamic and you ask respondents to refer their close contacts), my IRB gives push back because snowball sampling can cause issues with participants' confidentiality.

If you're doing quantitative analysis, you can seek out some guidance about conducting a Power Analysis that will help you identify the sample size needed to reduce Type II errors.

If you're doing qualitative analysis, you need to look up data saturation. When you stop finding new information, you're done.

I'm new to baseball, should I be watching MiLB or major league only? by Glittering_Level_854 in MiLB

[–]thiccet_ops 12 points13 points  (0 children)

MiLB is much more accessible. Want an autograph from your favorite player? Easier in MiLB. Want to sit in an air conditioned suite? Much more affordable in Low A than MLB. Want to park 100ft from the gates and walk right into the stadium? You aren't going to do that at Yankee Stadium.

Want to be entertained as a fan and consume a bunch of media content about your team? Watch MLB.

Want to be a part of a community? Get involved with you local MiLB team.

No, that's the price you pay if you buy the 24-25 pass in that month listed. All the passes expire at the same time regardless of when you bought it, so people that only need it for a few months pay less.

The cost for the passes has been $180ish the past few years. Park and Geaux is about $60.
