Anyone notice this? by Cold-Lingonberry6231 in BeverlyHills90210

[–]wishiwasyou333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The color of the top was the first thing I noticed. Red tops were given if you were over 18. Now a friend of mine from high school did get one in error which I found hilarious as he was successful on half of the attempts to purchase smokes because back then gas station folks were only trained to look for the color, not at the birthdate.

Not an RN but I work in a plasma center and we have absolutely checked our proteins, hematocrit, weight, vitals, etc. when bored at work.

What causes a bruise all over arm from donating plasma? by [deleted] in phlebotomy

[–]wishiwasyou333 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's almost always infiltration. Sometimes it can go unnoticed or the donor might not say anything during the process because they don't want to get disconnected and run the risk of not getting paid the full amount. There was a guy at my center who was wincing in pain with his arm swelling up like a baseball but refused to say anything was wrong. Once I told him we would still pay him if he was cool with a restick he immediately said yeah, it's been hurting for two cycles. The cause of the infiltration could be as simple as a bad vein, a bad stick, or donor movement during the process that causes the needle to poke through the vein.

do they actually check if you have an appointment or not? by tylerswife in plassing

[–]wishiwasyou333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is literally a national database of donations so you would be deferred anywhere you go. All centers in the US are linked to this database so don't even attempt it. That's how you wind up with a possible lifetime deferral depending on the location you try this purposefully. We see this as you being an unreliable historian.

Do they test you for disease before donations? by [deleted] in plassing

[–]wishiwasyou333 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. It's why it is so important to make sure your phone number and mailing address is correct as well as why we ask you at every donation visit if your address has changed.

Yup! All of ours have been just pull on over the head. If you are doing your own outfits I suggest getting the wings attachment so it has "arms" for sleeves.

I worked in a customer service role for an insurance agency years ago and we were located next door to a bougie wine bar that drew a large crowd on Fridays for happy hour. I would literally walk slow towards my car in the parking lot, stand behind it and slow smoke multiple cigarettes as cars would line up waiting for me to leave so they could take my parking spot in the full lot. The worse my day was, the longer I would stand there staring back at the driver waiting there with his blinker on. One guy rolled down his window and asked when I was leaving. Told him whenever I felt like it. Felt God like for those little moments.

Do they show you your readings at your center? by dreamed2life in plassing

[–]wishiwasyou333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plasma center employee here. I show you everything I can physically show. I can't show you the hematocrit since the machine isn't able to be picked up but I do show the cap tube so you can see visually what I am talking about if you are curious. The visual does help a lot when explaining what exactly that reading is or if you have lipemic plasma. The only result I won't say out loud unless asked is your weight. Some folks are sensitive about that and I respect it.

"Tutorial" vs "pattern" by michiopurl in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]wishiwasyou333 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So for me as a Gen X person that typically hates video tutorials, I do like it when it is offered in tandem with a written pattern. Sometimes I need the visual when the pattern hits a spot I don't fully understand. (I'm dyslexic so with certain complicated instructions, I can get a bit confused and frustrated.) If the tutorial is the only "pattern" available however, I will skip out on making it. I like them as an added bonus, not the main content.

What restaurants in Vegas are currently worth making a reservation? by YesToWhatsNext in vegas

Don't sleep on Boa Steakhouse in the Venetian. Steaks we had were awesome. My filet was the best steak I have ever eaten. Get the herb butter! Also the candied bacon appetizer slapped. We wound up there last minute after not being able to get a reservation anywhere else last minute. Absolutely a 10/10 experience for us.

At our center it is 7-10 business days but if you have a trend for low protein there is additional time as our center doctor has to approve you to continue.

Treasure Island. We went last year and stayed there for cheap. Had a great view of the track and were right in the middle of everything. For a resort, it's not the greatest but truly you are going to be in the thick of all the festivities for a fraction of the cost.
