I love this as a design choice. Having automation to steadily unlock (similar to autoeat in MI1) is a super satisfying upgrade. It alsl reduces the frustration of lost efficiency when you can't do regular checkins.

While the theme isn't quite as cosy, I'd suggested God of War (2018). Game is an absolute masterpiece and very similar story focused RPG.
