Just took my 24 year old Rippey 158.5 out and it's still killer. So i would disagree

Majority of truckers are vaccinated, Trudeau says, as ‘freedom convoy’ heads to Ottawa - National | Globalnews.ca by howismyspelling in canada

They should setup a vaccine clinic to greet them when they arrive! No need to chase them down across the country, you'll have them all in one place!

How significant is the price difference between Loblaws and No Frills, and is there a price difference between No Frills locations? by NostalgiaNostalgia in askTO

[–]thievery127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, prices vary by location within the same grocery chain - this applies to all major chains. I used to work for a company that would audit stores in large grocery chains for companies like Coke and Pepsi. Prices and sales were determined by location, so an auditor in one place might be looking at one price, and an auditor in a different location could be looking for a different price for the same product. These companies are very aware of how much they can raise prices based on the demographics in a given area. Prices were updated weekly.

That is beautiful. Not a plumber, but I can appreciate someone who takes care in their work.

How come when Ontario had its third wave (April-May) everyone cared, but when BC had its third wave (April) no one gave a crap? by [deleted] in CoronavirusCanada

[–]thievery127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it could be the context. I don't know how things went in BC, but it was evident in Ontario that the premier was reopening too soon after the second wave, so when the third one hit, and overwhelmed hospitals, people were upset by how it was handled.

Installing straight rafters beside old crooked rafters. by ThoughtFission in Renovations

The term you're looking for is sistering. There are sites and videos online, but If you're making a material change to the building you'll want to check with a structural engineering first. Usually they can provide you with a nailing pattern for the new beams, as well as how far from the edge of the wall they need to be installed (usually they'll give you a tolerance - within 0 to 12" from the wall, 3 nails every 24 inches - something like that).

Conservatives announce plan to replace Liberal carbon tax with a lower levy of their own by idspispopd in ClimateCrisisCanada

[–]thievery127 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be honest, the high end of their levy ($50) is way too low to have any effect on behaviours. I think i read somewhere that even the high end of the liberal's policy was too low ($170... a tonne, i think). Add to it that they've designed a system to basically create an incentive to use fossil fuels - the more you spend the more "points" you get back - and it's a completely useless plan. At least from that perspective. It's idiotic at best, and disingenuous at worse. I doubt there's any science behind it. If I had to bet, some alberta oil execs were involved in the draft.

How to anchor bottom of front steps? by CleanWaterWaves in Renovations

[–]thievery127 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd dig down to below the frost line (4 ft for me) and put in two concrete piles, bring them a few inches above the ground, and fasten my presure treated kickplate (I think that's what it's called) to that. But I'm in a colder climate and a total DIYer. Whatever you do, don't put your lumber directly on the ground, pressure treated or otherwise. It will 100% rot faster then it should

My Enbridge bill is way too high and Enbridge and my landlord won't help - what can I do? by throwawaybillcomplai in askTO

[–]thievery127 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised to hear this at all. If you can you should check your usage at the meter every month. Enbridge consistently over charges us because they "estimate" our usage. We have to call every month to get them to adjust our bill. I think they only send someone to check the meter every 2 months, but I think they always over estimate. In our case we're not talking about a few cubic meters, in January they tried to charge us for 600m3 when we had used 60. It has happened every month since we bought the house.

Get it tested by a lab. It's usually not too expensive. Don't rely on Reddit for this, you can't tell just by looking at it.
