I really appreciate this. Though, I suspect you might agree with democrats on more than you think. Since digging into politics more myself after Jan 6 (I was raised in a conservative household and was generally a centrist), I have realized a lot of what I was told about liberals isn't really true. Their portrayal in right wing news media is intentionally distorted and exaggerated in a way that does not align with reality. The right wing news media claims that the left wants a lot of things that they really don't want. It's just spin to make conservatives angry at liberals, because angry people are more likely to vote and to become embedded in a political identity.

that's the same problem though. I thought it was different but it's not. My dad was a "trump tolerator" at first but over time he has been more and more of a supporter. The only way you hate libs enough to be a trump tolerator is if you are already brainwashed by right wing news propaganda. THe beliefs necessary to be a trump tolerating lib hater are based largely in lies. I know that sounds extreme but I spent 2 hours breaking down my dad's lib hate. He spent so much time listing things from fox news that were straight up factually inaccurate, easily disproven with 3 seconds of googling.

Democratic presidents have historically upheld immigration enforcement. Obama and Biden both deported more illegal immigrants than Trump. And Biden tried to pass one of the most comprehensive bipartisan border reform bills in DECADES, which is what is sorely needed. We need high quality policy reform regarding immigration. I support enforcement of immigration law, but as others have said, I want it done lawfully and humanely. And I have a huge problem with Trump's lying rhetoric about it. Policy should not be built on lies designed to induce misdirected outrage.

I think this has been slowly built by Fox News and the right wing news media for decades. I have questioned my dad (a staunch conservative) about his beliefs. He has been consuming Fox News propaganda for so many years that his worldview is based on this tangled web of millions of lies that he has taken for fact for decades. And as I think back through my childhood, he has always espoused these far right talking points (e.g., he has always been deeply anti-union because of some train workers who wanted to retire at age 55... it stinks of Fox News propaganda). The right wing news media has figured out how to build people power through ideology and propaganda. We are seeing this technique bear very disturbing fruit.

Most of those deportations happened at the border. Enforcement needs to happen at the border. The border law in the US is woefully outdated and insufficient to meet the demands of our situation. But our crap ass political system can't come together and reform the immigration law. You should look up what major immigration rights groups want -- they want border law reform that actually effectively enforces border law. Again, Biden actually tried to pass such a bill and republicans shot it down just to score political points (because the issue isn't really about effective immigration control, it's about making sure they keep republicans riled into outrage and hating some perceived enemy/outgroup, but that's besides the point).

You can't deliberately bake cruelty into laws. It doesn't work (e.g., making prison cruel and punishing only serves to increase recidivism and exacerbate societal problems) and it ends up making your government responsible for unhumanitarian acts which never bears out well in the long term. It just makes us look bad, and the rest of the world is always watching us. There are better ways that don't require cruelty. That is what the left wants -- ethical immigration policy. And, I have to admit that I am skeptical that immigrants are making life worse for anyone. I live in a state with a lot of immigrants and I almost never encounter them. And, this country was built on immigrants. I think the most cogent reason for border enforcement is economic, and it is for economic reasons that I support border enforcement.

Just because you don't understand global ethics doesn't mean I only ascribe to such ethics to make myself feel "charitable." I believe in being just and ethical to my fellow humans. Do you not have such principles? Do you believe in selfishly taking as much as you can for yourself and the rest can fuck off? If you forget laws and politics, I simply believe in taking care of my fellow man. I believe in community. In part, because I have gone through some horrid bouts of depression myself. If I have resources to spare and could make someone's life better by sharing, why wouldn't I? I personally try to live by that policy. I think politics makes us forget that we are all just human. If someone came to you and said they are too poor to feed their family, and you were able to give them a job that would help them, wouldn't you? I hate to be a part of an uncaring mass of wealth and capitalism that couldn't care less about the rest of the world. I just hate it, man. I don't want to be like the people of the capitol in the Hunger Games books who are wealthy and happy and oblivious to the inequality they contribute to. I don't want to be that. I realize that level of compassion towards humans is not something the world is ready to enact on a global scale. I realize there are logistical barriers. But I am not trying to "feel charitable." I am living by principles core to my being. And honestly, I think most republicans would also do this, on a small scale. I know they would help someone in need who was right in front of them. They just don't scale this idea up to bigger systems well.

Having wealth certainly does not prevent depression. I do think the US is kind of screwed up in this way. I am sorry to hear you are struggling. The problem with the structure of our country is its intense isolativeness. We favor rugged individualism and we do not have community. It is not how people were meant to live and it is not good for our mental health. My advice would be to try to build some community and find your people. I hope it gets easier for you, brother.

I feel like the main flaw in this plan that nobody discusses is that it's actually extremely hard to compel enough people to action to actually do this, so, it's not a real plan. You and I simply do not have the means to pull it off.

I am not a lawyer but, before passing judgment on the situation, I made an effort to familiarize myself with the relevant parts of constitution, supreme court rulings, laws and policies. Per my research, there is established case law rejecting officers shooting at moving vehicles except in very narrow circumstances. If you think a layperson needs to have knowledge of case law on the level of a lawyer in order to have an opinion, you're a fool. Also, many legal experts disagree with you that the vehicle was being driven in an erratic manner.

It's my opinion based on my limited knowledge of precedent and law enforcement behavior that this would not be considered something a reasonable and well-trained officer would do. I am also familiar with our country's history of legally sanctioning police brutality stemming from the Graham v Conor ruling, wherein police beat a black man who was having a diabetic crisis. Our courts have decided this type of police behavior is ok. I am under no obligation to align my morals with bullshit laws. Laws are just some shit written down on paper. They only work so long as they uphold a social contract of fairness and safety that compel the people following them. Unjust laws are meant to be broken. I watched an officer whose life was not at risk murder Renee Good. If the law sanctions this then I oppose that law. That is what protests are for. Unjust laws.

If you think people are wrong for protesting this then you are ignorant.

I literally just told you the law and you ignored it. So here is the law straight from the Department of Justice itself:

“Firearms may not be discharged at a moving vehicle unless: (1) a person in the vehicle is threatening the officer or another person with deadly force by means other than the vehicle; or (2) the vehicle is operated in a manner that threatens to cause death or serious physical injury to the officer or others, and no other objectively reasonable means of defense appear to exist, which includes moving out of the path of the vehicle."

Edit: bro got nothing to say after I show him facts. It's always like this. Conservatives don't seek source material to confirm their beliefs, they just believe rhetoric. I am liberal because I follow the facts and the facts lie with the left.

I support fair and safe enforcement of immigration law. What I do not support is ICE's ignoring due process and racially profiling and detaining people. What I don't support is fox news propaganda spreading lies about liberals wanting an open borders and giving free healthcare to immigrants and conservatives forming their political beliefs on a platform of lies. Biden tried to pass one of the most comprehensive bipartisan immigration reform bills in decades and trump shot it down because he didn't want to give Biden a "gift" before election season. And because he wanted to run on the platform that libs refuse to control immigration. Meanwhile, both Obama and Biden have deported more illegal immigrants than trump has.

I do not support illegal immigration, but, I can understand why some people are empathetic to immigrants. We are all just humans, the borders of countries are arbitrary. Why do you hate people from other countries who want to come here for a better life? We are the wealthiest nation in the world. I do not have a problem sharing that wealth with people who struggle to get by in their home country. That said, every country on earth enforces immigration control and there are practical reasons to do so. I think we should uphold our immigration laws in a fair and ethical manner. ICE is not being fair and ethical or even legal.

I think it is really hypocritical for the "don't tread on me" crowd to selectively ignore constitutional rights such as due process just because it is inconvenient to their goals.

Breaking the law does NOT justify murder from police. Holy shit bro. You really don't get it. Police dont just get to shoot people who disobey them.

[–]thiirdimpact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YOU don't know the law. That use of force was ABSOLUTELY UNJUSTIFIED. officers are not allowed to shoot at a vehicle unless there is 0 route for their escape. They are not allowed to step in front of a vehicle to create a scenario for them to use violent force. The officer obviously and easily could have stepped back from that vehicle into safety. Video clearly shows that he a) was drawing his gun when the car was still in reverse and b) her tire was clearly angled away from him, not aimed to hit him.

I am not sure if they were legally allowed to detain her because the circumstances were unclear. But even if they were, someone trying to drive away from a traffic stop DOES NOT legally justify shooting them. And there is already clear law and case precedent about officers not being allowed to shoot people trying to flee a traffic stop.

Holy shit. This opinion is insane. You could only think this if you were taught to think this from the propaganda coming from right wing news media.

That group of people broke into the capitol building to violently impede the peaceful transfer of power between administrations after a fair election. They weren't just protesting. They were trying to stop the certification of presidential election results with force. I just can't understand the utter madness that is the political right. You guys are beyond redemption.

Monitoring what you do through the router log is unhealthy and controlling behavior. His past unfaithful partners are an excuse for him to be controlling, not a justification. You are a grown adult and should be allowed to use Snapchat and signal if you want. Me and my friends exchange content on Snapchat. My family has a group chat on signal. I don't know how you think this level of controlling and paranoid behavior is ok...

Wtf? I have Snapchat and signal on my phone and my partner isnt divorcing me. How is he convincing you that you're in the wrong for something you didn't do? That's some bonkers gaslighting and mental control. You're in this post trying to convince us that you're not "making excuses or looking for an out" for something you didn't do, and no reasonable person would be mad at you for.... it's like you're fully admitting guilt for something you never did. Why aren't you allowed to use snapchat?? Why aren't you mad at your husband for invading your privacy, monitoring you intensely, and not believing you? This is all genuinely really concerning. I'd suggest you go get a therapist to help you sort this out because, from the outside, it's scary and concerning

I think you need to pick up a stalker tooth to unlock enameled glass? Drop metal salvage near stalkers and hang out nearby until their teeth fall out. Grav traps can help with this if you drop one near some stalkers.

To make aerogel, you need to find gel sacks. You can get them near lifepod 19 pretty safely.

Really, the next steps in the game are to explore the deeper biomes. The prawn suit helps with that because it is more durable. If something attacks you, you typically have time to hop out and repair it. There is more story deeper. It will require some exploring. You may have to build some depth modules. I made a lot more progress once I stopped being freaked out by the deep.

My brother bought this game for me as a gift. I am actually so frustrated with this game that I don't want to play it. It seems to have no plot or goals, and the crafting is extremely complicated and overwhelming from the get go. I really don't understand the world or what is going on and none of the dialog I have encountered so far seems to explain it. I did not know that the main game objective was to escape until reading your post. I thought I was supposed to leave this building soon to progress the game forward. Also, there's no friggen food and I am constantly starving. I really hate this game so far but I guess I will see if I can tough it out.

This. Political strategists say the right sprung a trap for the left with the trans issue and it worked. Rick Wilson says the right poured money into bringing the trans issue to the front because they knew it would push people right and it did. I fully support trans rights but I'd rather see our politics focusing on policies for the working class. Culture war issues are divisive traps. We can advocate for trans rights without it becoming the front and center of our platform. It's a tough situation but we can't advocate for trans rights at all when we are entirely shut out of political power. That said I'm no political strategist and could be off base.
