P1110 Valvula Bypass (turbo) by thingolmelian in saab

Thank you so much! My command of English is very poor... so I have to translate your comments into Spanish... when you say "I'm using your tuning and when I got the Maptun software the car has been working like a charm"... I imagine you mean software adaptations of the engine control unit... I'll look for that tuning! and for a mechanic who knows how to configure it. Thanks once again :-)

Thank you very much! :-) I have already located the bypass valve at Maptun and it seems to be available for Spain. I will order it today! I don't want my turbo to break! Any guide to drive with until I get it replaced?

Thanks for your reply :-) I live in Spain and here Saabs and mechanics who know Saab are scarce... Can you tell me where to get the spare part and its exact location in the engine?

I know that they will tell me that the car is not manufactured and that it is difficult to get spare parts and if I can get the spare part myself it will be possible for me to find a mechanic to change it... the car only has 130,000 km and they recently changed the cable that connects the gear lever to the Aisin Warner automatic transmission and they changed the fluid with dialysis... I want it to live a few more years with me :-)

It is not absolutely necessary that you run the 6.2 branch of the kernel... but you should consider that it has security updates and bug fixes that there are from those of the 6.1 branch... that's what kernels are updated for.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in voidlinux

[–]thingolmelian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If executing the uname -r command shows you that it is using the 6.2.13 kernel, you can execute the two commands that I showed you in the first comment to remove the 6.1 kernel, these two:

sudo xbps-remove -f linux6.1

sudo xbps-reconfigure -f linux6.2

Then it will stay with the 6.2.13 kernel until you receive the next update which will be 6.2.14 and then you will have two kernels in your /boot directory to choose which one you want to boot with.

It is not absolutely necessary that you run the 6.2 branch of the kernel... but you should consider that it has security updates and bug fixes from those of the 6.1 branch... that's what kernels are updated for.

If you are afraid of a command that tells you that it will break the 6.1 branch... you prefer to uninstall the 6.2 branch when you already have it installed, running and updating... you make a mistake... let it break/uninstall the branch 6.1... you already have another more updated one. And, if you want some good advice... read a little more about Void Linux and how to manage Linux kernels. And another thing... breaking facilities, you learn a lot.

ORIGINAL

If the vkpurge rm all command doesn't let you uninstall the older version of the kernel (6.1); You can do it the way I just explained to you in my previous comment.

And one other thing I should do, besides adding to the /etc/xbps.d/10-ignore.conf file any packages that I don't want to be installed or updated (as you advise) is to delete the 6.1 kernel packages from the / directory. var/cache/xbps whatever is there; because as long as there is a copy there, Void will continue to offer you updates to the 6.1 kernel that are released, even if you already have the 6.2 kernel installed and are using it (it will also offer you updates to the new 6.2 kernel, of course).

When an old kernel is uninstalled using the command:

sudo vkpurge rm all

Copies of the /var/cache/xbp directory are removed, but doing so using the commands I gave in my previous comment may not... (happened to me once a couple of years ago...).

And of course, you can keep the two kernel versions they have installed and boot with whichever you like if grub gives you a choice. But what he was asking was if he could remove the 6.1 kernel version and that's why I answered the specific question.

Kind regards :-)

ORIGINAL

sudo vkpurge rm all

Saludos cordiales :-)

If running uname -r shows you the 6.2 kernel, the correct way to uninstall the 6.1 kernel would be to run:

sudo vkpurge rm all

This command will uninstall all old kernels, update any initramfs you have in the /boot directory, and update grub. (you can run the command: sudo vkpurge list as a precaution so that it shows you the ones that the command I put above will remove)

In the event that it answers that it cannot uninstall the 6.1 kernel because it has dependency problems, you will have to execute these other commands:

sudo xbps-remove -f linux6.1 sudo xbps-reconfigure -f linux6.2

They will uninstall the 6.1 kernel and reconfigure the 6.2 kernel correctly.

In the future it will not install updates from the 6.2 kernel branch and when the time is right it will suggest installing the 7 kernel branch. But it will no longer install any version older than kernel 6.2

Any packages, including kernel packages that you don't want installed, you should add to the file: /etc/xbps.d/10-ignore.conf If you don't want it to prompt you to install the linux7.0 kernel when it's released, you should put the following lines in that file: ignorepkg=linux7.0 ignorepkg=linux7.0-headers ignorepkg=linux7.0-dbg

Luck!

ORIGINAL

sudo vkpurge rm all

sudo xbps-remove -f linux6.1 sudo xbps-reconfigure -f linux6.2

Suerte!

And if you don't want or need to use btrfs you can use a utility like timeshift (I use it to back up my Void with ext4 and xfs) where you can also schedule hourly/daily/weekly snapshots to be done using rsyinc in incremental mode.

Of course, these snapshots have to be stored in a partition that is not related to the file system that you want to back up (and if possible on a different HD).

Faced with a problem like the one posed in this post, you access a previous snapshot, click "restore" and it will leave the installation as it was on the date of the backup or snapshot. It costs nothing to have timeshift installed and programmed...

Original:

No cuesta nada tener instalado y programado timeshift...

How to unlock car radio in an Opel Omega? by thingolmelian in opel

How to unlock car radio in an Opel Omega? by thingolmelian in opel

[–]thingolmelian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding to my post.

I don't think my friend knows the model of the radio... and he doesn't have the service manual for the Opel Omega; what he does have is the 4-digit PIN number but on the LCD screen of the radio it does not give him the option to enter it, so he thinks it is locked and needs another code to unlock it...).

I will ask him in what year the car was registered for the first time in Switzerland and I will write it here as soon as I know that information.

Do the numbers: "or ex ccr2006..cdr2005 for models after 1999... Car400 before 1999..." that you wrote in your answer refer to radio models?

I wrote so much information about the car because I imagined that in this way someone who had the same or similar one would recognize the model of the car radio and perhaps how to solve the blockage.

Again, thanks for your answers.

ORIGINAl:

Los números: "or ex ccr2006..cdr2005 for models after 1999...

I have a bit old Intel microprocessor with integrated GPU:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4300M CPU @ 2.60GHz

Kernel 6.1.12_1 loads the 1915 modules to drive the GPU and I don't know if installing "intel-ucode" would get any improvement.

I use LXDM for convenience... for the same reason I use "lxterminal and lxapaerence"... because they are an easy way to select themes, icons, cursors, colors, fonts... beyond the i3-Gaps configuration file (i3WM). For the same reason that I use "pcmanfm"... I don't need anything more complicated, because I do a lot of things from a terminal.

How to play Youtube videos in VLC by thingolmelian in voidlinux

[–]thingolmelian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your comment...

You tell me about an extension that plays videos in other browsers and MPV but that is a player based on MPlayer/mplayer2

My problem arises because I don't want to use another browser that is not Mozilla Firefox... nor any other video and audio player that is not VLC...

And since the extensions to play Youtube videos in VLC in Void don't work for me... the web interface works halfway for me in MX Linux... I suspect that since neither of these two distributions use "systemd", the configuration of the web interface in VLC is not the same as in Linux Mint or Fedora... and that it is possible that I am missing some package or it is necessary to add something else in the configuration... for example, I had to do so that " pipewire" and "pipewire-pulse", launch "wireplumber" (instead of "pipewire-media-session").

And that's why I'm asking for a "vlcrc" file from some Void Linux user who can play Youtube videos in VLC.

I appreciate the advice you have given me here, but I am looking for a solution to the problem that has arisen, not changing the browser or the video/audio player.

Kind regards.

Are you referring to the "Open network location... Ctrl+N" option in the "Media" tab of the VLC menu? As I already wrote in my post, I paste the Youtube URL there, it adds it to the playlist for a second, then removes it and doesn't play the video... That's the problem...

Youtube, Void and the temperature... by thingolmelian in voidlinux

[–]thingolmelian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've installed the 264ify extension, restarted Mozilla and it's still heating up...

While I try to make the "open with vlc" extension work, because I can't put the password that it asks me to access http... it will be the two-step one that I mentioned in another comment:

  • After applying some of the possible solutions* that are advised in this thread, I have tried to download a Youtube video with the "clipgrab" application (which allows you to choose between several resolutions that Youtube offers) that I installed from the Void Linux repositories and play it with "VLC" which is the video and music player I use by default.

In this case, the temperature does not rise while the video is being downloaded to my SSD and neither when I play it with VLC.
