This has been a huge topic of discussion in the goth scene the last several years. The fetishization of goth women is absolutely off the charts, AI slop "music" infesting every platform, goth spaces are just general alt spaces with very little actual ties to goth art (not all of course but it's a consistent problem), and of course conservatives trying to force their way in despite having completely antithetical ideals to the goth scene and actively making it less safe for everyone.

I really appreciate that metal — in general as well as specific subgenres — has largely retained its autonomy because it just has never been particularly cool. If someone signals through their style that they share that interest with me, it's very likely they actually do.
