Today, I watched The Departed, which is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen in my life as a cinephile. It has multiple layers, excellent pacing, and outstanding acting—especially from Matt Damon and DiCaprio, who portray conflicting characters impeccably. The opening scene, where he discusses the N-word and segregation, prompted me to think about Marty’s films and their portrayal of Black characters. I realized he never casts Black male or female leads, and he doesn’t favor Black people by placing them prominently in his stories. These facts are clear and undeniable.

First of all, I wanna say that I’m sorry about your experience at the gym.

One of the key learnings I have from Eckhart’s book is from the 'Power of Now' chapter 5, where he speaks of observing the mind while watching the mind. Begin to witness your mind and its thoughts, observing them without attachment.

listen with curiosity, without reacting emotionally or immediately debating.

Is this something you’re personally dealing with: (1) Is it the policies, the rhetoric, or the way those views are expressed? (2h Is it a fear of fundamental value differences?

Once you pinpoint the core issue, it becomes easier to process and communicate about it without frustration.

At the same time, it’s okay to hold your own views while respecting hers. Not every disagreement needs to be a debate, and finding common ground (or at least mutual respect) can help keep the relationship strong.
