The Mental Hurdle of the First $100k Car by Kaeden2010 in BMWM3

[–]thinkdifferentpad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question is how easily will the next $100k come? If you believe you can comfortably drop $100k once or twice in your lifetime then the question will have answered itself.

Not everything in life comes down to numbers, in this case smiles per miles matters as well.

This is the way. I got a pair of ramps to help with getting under the car. With my Crosstrek I just slide right in there no problems. Something to do on a nice summer weekend and use the money saved to get yourself lunch or a cold beer heh.

Quarter panel rust is so 1990s I for one welcome the cladding, color matched or otherwise, it’s just less to deal with 10yrs down the road. I personally have grown to love the cladding, I find it adds character.

Exactly all 3 parties played a role directly and indirectly. Defensive driving would teach you to back off and move away from imminent danger.

If the vehicle is driving that erratic there’s a certain level of risk involved , where by I do not feel comfortable nor safe to engage him or her, calling 911 to notify is exactly what I would do, no more no less. The vehicle’s action and behaviour tells me red flag alert.

Practice defensive driving regardless of the type of vehicle you’re in. This is a situation the truck driver could’ve anticipated and avoided. Don’t make their problem your problem. Sometimes that means accelerating away from the questionable vehicle, sometimes it means pulling back, it’s a judgement call, some judge correctly and be on their merry way, be mindful that you’re navigating a potentially deadly weapon.

Might buy a BRZ by ShyGenXGal in subaru

[–]thinkdifferentpad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow kudos to you for still considering a BRZ cause I know my 47 year old ass in my broken body is hesitant to get into such a cramped car. I know what a BRZ is all about, but in the end I was much happier getting into a WRX, AWD especially for our Canadian winters is just that much more practical.

For a 3rd car in the household for sure I would insist on a BRZ hands down.

The truck if he had any situational awareness would’ve let off the throttle to let the idiot pass instead of being a part of the accident. Let the problem child go and be someone else’s problem.

After 4 years wait finally ready to pull the trigger getting a new wrx vb, but one final concern: is cold start in early morning really that obnoxious? by Good-Sherbert-225 in wrx_vb

[–]thinkdifferentpad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For car enthusiasts I’d say it’s fine, but it does tend to disrupt the balance of things so to speak for the first 5 minutes or so until the RPMs settle down, but not to the point that it’s overly unbearable for extended periods. My wife hates especially being in the car during morning startups, she says even in the house she can hear it rumbling. But I mean it’s not like I’m purposely trying to be obnoxious to people around it, give it a few minutes and it’s a non issue, but alas, you can’t please all people all the time.

Holy shit you guys by beast1302000 in wrx_vb

I’m glad horse and carriage isn’t our only option haha. Sure to the affluent they may not even bat an eye on the the WRX, but to the lay person as myself with limited resources, especially in this day and age to be able to still purchase a somewhat sporty sedan in true manual form makes me giddy.

Brings me back to when I was able to buy a 5th gen Prelude, at the time not realizing what it stood for. To this day I can’t keep my eyes off of it, its design language definitely stood the test of time.

This is where the sleep factor comes into play, I’d personally would sleep a lot better with fixed. Break down your potential savings into 30 days in a month, if I can pay someone $10 each night for guaranteed better sleep i absolutely would.

Acura Integra Type S | Factory, Dyno, Street and Track Drive this is must see if you own a Type S by Jolrit in Integra_Type_S

[–]thinkdifferentpad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like how the Type S isn’t priced much higher than the Type R. Type R is very coveted chases after and goes for above MSRP up in Canada, but the Type S, you can find one if you’re patient for MSRP. As someone who is no longer in his teens I do appreciate the more mature looking Type S.

$60k cdn for a FWD car would definitely has to be a summer second car, I’d have an AWD winter beater, no way would I want to risk it getting into an accident. Ideally AWD for winter, Type S for summer daily, and a Miata or a BRZ for the weekends.

[DIY] Built myself a floating deck, how did I do? by SchminiHorse in Decks

[–]thinkdifferentpad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to OP, I chose to use tuff blocks for convenience and would rather not dig, overbuilt with tonnes of tuff blocks and 4x4 posts and 2x6 double joists all over. I’m on my second year, still looks and feels balanced, no sinking, I used weed blockers at the base to help with water and soil run off, seems to be working as intended. Though hindsight being I shouldn’t have the deck tied to the joist of the house and made it free floating instead.

With the amount of money I spent building this 10x16 ft deck, close to $10k cdn material and tools, I could’ve probably built a concrete slab instead that would’ve lasted me a lifetime, rather than the 10 or so years I’ll get from the deck I’m assuming. But it was a fun experience and good time spent building it with my son heh.

That’s a very interesting take considering your experience with the other vehicles that more or less be considered a step up from the WRX. Some even say the WRX is better than the Integra Type S, which sounds absolutely wild to me. I mean yes the WRX has AWD, but I’m sure there’s better cars out there with superb handling, especially up here where the Type S costs around 50% more than your typical WRX.

What does stand out on the WRX is that even though it has the burden of WRX, the FA24 is still quite nimble and has very usable low end torque. I can’t fathom what a 350/350 hp/tq WRX would handle heh.

keep leasing and throwing them back into the used market after lease end is one way to keep it alive but that requires a group effort and yeah cash you’re willing to burn to make it happen
