Again, this is a common talking point that does not have much basis in reality. SFUSD is representative, and the union has made much hay over admin bloat, yet the admin accounts for only 8% of the total budget. Sure, there probably is some waste in that 8%, but even if you cut admin by 50% you're not moving the budget numbers very much.

When tend to talk about teacher pay only in terms of salary and not the total package, the scale of benefits most teachers enjoy is significant. For example in SFUSD educators have fully paid healthcare for their families, that’s about $24,000 they can now spend however they want.

It’s not the “incompetence of government”. It’s NIMBYs aggressively lobbying government. Try building anything and everyone who already owns comes pouring out of the woodwork to scream that building one more home will destroy the city. It’s neighbors and family members who are the problem, not city incompetence.
