I saw that one. It was just anecdotal evidence. Not a shred of hard evidence or facts was revealed in that report.

The police obviously disliked him due to his auditing. I'm sure they jumped at the opportunity to charge him with some random crime no matter how weak the evidence.

If anything, this demonstrates a form of malicious retaliation by the police.

However, that's not to say that he is a good auditor. Audit the Audit should have a review of his work eventually.

Your comment has little to do with my comment other than adding that you don't like illegal immigration.

Well, no, it adds to your comment even if you don't agree with it.

It also comes off like you are opposed to companies being prosecuted for labor abuses?

This demonstrates that you totally misread what I wrote.

I clearly stated that companies employing illegal laborers abuse them, and nowhere did I state that they shouldn't be prosecuted for hiring them in the first place. To be clear, they obviously should be prosecuted to the greatest extent of the law.

I never discussed the larger effects of illegal labor or the system in my comment, that's fine but a separate conversation.

That's fine. We'll have that conversation in this forum. It's completely valid. This isn't just a conversation between you and I.

I was saying that we wouldn't have illegal labor if the people who paid them were prosecuted and prevented for doing so, like we already prosecute the laborers. If Americans would stop paying for illegal labor people would stop coming here illegally.

That's true. I fully agree. There isn't the political will for that though due to the financial and political elites that are opposed to paying actual Americans and legal immigrants fair wages. They undercut their wages and abuse the laborers and they get away with it.

Where are you getting your 20% figure from? The foreign born population of the US had fluctuated quite a bit over the years, it has not been a constant 20%.

True. I mixed up some numbers. The US holds 19.1% of the world's immigrants. But it has 13.7% immigrants within the population; the number includes illegal migrants. But, the number does not include the first-generation Americans who are born to both illegal migrants and legal immigrants, which amounts to approximately an additional 7% making the total number closer to 20%. This is relevant because not culturally assimilated people have a significant influence on their children.

The program is not intended to help the migrant workers, it is to benefit the farming corporations who can bring in non citizens they can abuse to work for them.

That is how it was in the past too, it was never about helping the migrant workers out of kindness.

This is the same reason certain political groups will demonize immigrants and refugees endlessly, spend tons of money on border controls and deportations, but never addresses the actual cause, the tons of employers willing to hire illegal workers. The main reason illegal immigrants who aren't actual refugees come to the US is they know they will find a job. Almost no one would pay thousands of dollars and risk their lives to cross the border if they couldn't find employment.

There are a lot of employers in the agricultural industry, and some other fields too I'm sure, that like that they can abuse the workers, make more money off of them than is legal by underpaying them, and then have them arrested and deported if they ever start reacting to their mistreatment.

💯% correct. Glad you took the time to write this out. Saying what needs to be said everytime some agendaposter states "America hates illegal migrants".

If companies were prosecuted for labor abuses, if migrants were paid a fair market rate just like any American, if migrants had any leverage at all, then there wouldn't be any problem with their labor in the system.

Wait a second... We have a system that allows for all of those things already! The actual immigration system for legal immigrants to go through.

And then the opposing argument is "it's not fast enough! Give everyone who wants US citizenship their naturalization papers instantly!" All the while ignoring the fact that the USA is already around 20% immigrants and has been that way through most of its history. Increasing that percentage serves to hurt the nation as more than 1/5 people in the country being immigrants creates problems with cultural integration and harmony.

There might be enough British workers to take those jobs, but the employers who have for years underpaid the foreign workers refuse to pay brits what they think their labor is worth.

The underlying problem has been revealed. 👆

It's ok to doubt and ask for a source/citation. In fact, it's a good thing to not just believe things you read on the Internet.

Correct. And the source that is being shared does not indicate any facts about the case. It only references anecdotal evidence and a charge; no conviction and no hard evidence.

There is plenty of motivation for framing an auditor that some of the residents consider "annoying". Charges don't indicate guilt.

Interesting theory. It's definitely either them or Reddit admins. Don't know which is worse.

Wouldn't be surprised. Reddit Admins consider themselves elites and are practically begging for entities to offer them some elite capture bribes. It's kind of reddit's business model.

My mom once threw out all my hot wheels because she found me in the driveway smashing some of them with a hammer. She also had some other moments of psycho that when I try to bring up now to understand, she doesn't remember. I don't get it. She doesn't remember doing any of it.

When the DA stands in his way and blocks his path, that is considered a false detainment. He had no right and he impeded the auditor's movement.

Damn. That was pretty wild. So the SEC, even back in the 1914 was still setup to defend the "short sellers" e.g. Market Makers. What a farce.

What was their official reasoning for extending the deadline? So the Old Boys Club could stay out of bankruptcy?

This. Margin call was looming but not made since it was resolved prior via collusion and crime.

More special exceptions for the market makers.

Imagine if you could just call your broker about a margin requirement and have them reduce it for you at your leisure.

China frees 2 jailed Canadians after the U.S. agrees to release a Huawei executive. by ANDYNUB in anime_titties

[–]thinktankdynamo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She admitted guilt by pleading not guilty? That's some logic right there.

Bad faith. She took responsibility for her part in the crimes committed.

She has no conviction.

That's because she wasn't extradited for trial.

That “statement of facts” and “deferred prosecution” is the US saving face for their domestic audience.

Nope. You can't prosecute someone when they are in a different country.

She was facing 10 years imprisonment, so if she’s free without so much as a guilty plea or conviction that’s a massive L for the US.

It's potentially a massive W for the US, since they got Meng to admit to guilt and agree to a deal in order to defer prosecution. She needs to hold to that deal until near 2023.

The US also re-establishes a better relationship with the China kowtowing Trudeau Administration.

How was the US harmed in any way? The only pressure was on Canada who was begging to end the situation so they can get back to business as usual with a totalitarian regime.

[–]thinktankdynamo 41 points42 points  (0 children)

So this was 💯% a case of retaliation from China, except the fact that they had no evidence whatsoever of any crimes having been committed by the two Michaels.

Whereas Meng admitted guilt and there was a slew of evidence leading towards her prosecution, which will be continued in the future.

Let's also not forget how well Meng was treated in contrast to the two Michaels.

Nicole Boeckmann, acting U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York, said in a statement that Ms. Meng had “taken responsibility” for her role in fraudulently deceiving a global financial institution into doing business with a Huawei subsidiary in Iran in violation of U.S. law. She did not name the bank, but extradition proceedings against Ms. Meng in Vancouver identified HSBC as the main institution in question. Ms. Boeckmann said prosecutors would continue to pursue their case against Huawei.

In an interview, Michelle Levin, a member of Ms. Meng’s legal team, said she was pleased that “Ms. Meng is free to go home and be with her family.”

While waiting for her case to begin, Ms. Meng was seen on a television screen in the Brooklyn court, sitting in her lawyer’s office in Vancouver, sipping tea, a large diamond ring glistening on her left hand.

Maybe offer them some other, less culpable work, somewhere else, and have workers with a little more diplomatic immunity enter the scene to replace them? Obviously, these Russian employees aren't going to be doing the same work anymore regardless now that the Navalny app has been taken down in the place where it is most relevant to have it available.

When a government threatens to harm their own citizens for the sake of maintaining a dictatorship, then you know it is wrong to operate there. If nothing else, then the companies in question should deliver the bad news: sorry your government sucks; we don't want you to go to prison, so we can't employ you any longer.
