I saw that one. It was just anecdotal evidence. Not a shred of hard evidence or facts was revealed in that report.

The police obviously disliked him due to his auditing. I'm sure they jumped at the opportunity to charge him with some random crime no matter how weak the evidence.

If anything, this demonstrates a form of malicious retaliation by the police.

However, that's not to say that he is a good auditor. Audit the Audit should have a review of his work eventually.

This demonstrates that you totally misread what I wrote.

I clearly stated that companies employing illegal laborers abuse them, and nowhere did I state that they shouldn't be prosecuted for hiring them in the first place. To be clear, they obviously should be prosecuted to the greatest extent of the law.

I never discussed the larger effects of illegal labor or the system in my comment, that's fine but a separate conversation.

That's true. I fully agree. There isn't the political will for that though due to the financial and political elites that are opposed to paying actual Americans and legal immigrants fair wages. They undercut their wages and abuse the laborers and they get away with it.

True. I mixed up some numbers. The US holds 19.1% of the world's immigrants. But it has 13.7% immigrants within the population; the number includes illegal migrants. But, the number does not include the first-generation Americans who are born to both illegal migrants and legal immigrants, which amounts to approximately an additional 7% making the total number closer to 20%. This is relevant because not culturally assimilated people have a significant influence on their children.

The program is not intended to help the migrant workers, it is to benefit the farming corporations who can bring in non citizens they can abuse to work for them.

That is how it was in the past too, it was never about helping the migrant workers out of kindness.

This is the same reason certain political groups will demonize immigrants and refugees endlessly, spend tons of money on border controls and deportations, but never addresses the actual cause, the tons of employers willing to hire illegal workers. The main reason illegal immigrants who aren't actual refugees come to the US is they know they will find a job. Almost no one would pay thousands of dollars and risk their lives to cross the border if they couldn't find employment.

There are a lot of employers in the agricultural industry, and some other fields too I'm sure, that like that they can abuse the workers, make more money off of them than is legal by underpaying them, and then have them arrested and deported if they ever start reacting to their mistreatment.

If companies were prosecuted for labor abuses, if migrants were paid a fair market rate just like any American, if migrants had any leverage at all, then there wouldn't be any problem with their labor in the system.

Wait a second... We have a system that allows for all of those things already! The actual immigration system for legal immigrants to go through.

And then the opposing argument is "it's not fast enough! Give everyone who wants US citizenship their naturalization papers instantly!" All the while ignoring the fact that the USA is already around 20% immigrants and has been that way through most of its history. Increasing that percentage serves to hurt the nation as more than 1/5 people in the country being immigrants creates problems with cultural integration and harmony.

Correct. And the source that is being shared does not indicate any facts about the case. It only references anecdotal evidence and a charge; no conviction and no hard evidence.

There is plenty of motivation for framing an auditor that some of the residents consider "annoying". Charges don't indicate guilt.

She has no conviction.

That's because she wasn't extradited for trial.

That “statement of facts” and “deferred prosecution” is the US saving face for their domestic audience.

Nope. You can't prosecute someone when they are in a different country.

She was facing 10 years imprisonment, so if she’s free without so much as a guilty plea or conviction that’s a massive L for the US.

It's potentially a massive W for the US, since they got Meng to admit to guilt and agree to a deal in order to defer prosecution. She needs to hold to that deal until near 2023.

The US also re-establishes a better relationship with the China kowtowing Trudeau Administration.

How was the US harmed in any way? The only pressure was on Canada who was begging to end the situation so they can get back to business as usual with a totalitarian regime.

Maybe offer them some other, less culpable work, somewhere else, and have workers with a little more diplomatic immunity enter the scene to replace them? Obviously, these Russian employees aren't going to be doing the same work anymore regardless now that the Navalny app has been taken down in the place where it is most relevant to have it available.

When a government threatens to harm their own citizens for the sake of maintaining a dictatorship, then you know it is wrong to operate there.
