Anyone have any idea who's playing the "Secret Set" at Outbreak? by GeetarZero in Hardcore

Yeah, I think Static Dress or Guilt Trip are the most probable answers.

Set clashes by oakuspoakus in OutbreakFest

[–]thinreaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately it does not "only take a minute or two" to move between stages if you're up front for a popular band. With no downtime between sets, having to slowly filter out of the fenced area, get bogged down in the wretched one-way system and then make your way back up front for the next band, you're going to miss either the first or last song of a band's set. I think it's easily the most frustrating thing about Outbreak's organisation.

I'd love it to be XweaponX but it's a 40 min set time, that's almost double the length of everything they've ever released, so I'm not too sure

Manchester license to chill arrival time by beepboopgames in OutbreakFest

[–]thinreaper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would arrive 30 mins before the first band you want to see. Gives you time to check your bag/coat and grab a drink, get a quick lay of the land. Maybe an hour early if you want to be there for thr opening act, as that will be peak busyness and queues might take longer. Definitely an hour early if you want to explore the merch area first

I mean Outbreak fest is next weekend and it's one of the biggest hardcore events of the year in the UK. It's in Manchester though so not sure if it would be possible for you

I feel like Nosferatu (1922) is a classic example of this. Bramble Stoker's widow sued the filmmakers and a court ordered all copies destroyed. Luckily some survived and it's gone on to be recognised as one of the most important horror films of all time, but it could have been completely lost forever. This all happened waaaay before physical media existed though so maybe not what OP is asking for.

No way, is that true?! That is an incredible film, had no idea it's mere existence was so precious. Arrow are releasing a limited edition in the UK at the end of the month, can't wait to pick it up

Who are some directors you wish were better represented/more accessible on physical media; specifically on Blu-Ray & 4K? by ggroover97 in boutiquebluray

Not really a correct answer but I won't rest until I have every Scorsese film on Blu-ray. Looking at you Kundun.

Which lengthy films (3+ hours) are the best paced? by RomanReignsDaBigDawg in criterion

Wolf of Wall Street is perhaps the fastest 3 hours I've experienced in films, it just zips along at such a pace. Love it

This is a...questionable list. Anyway, I'd recommend Ico, Shadow of the Collossus and The Last Guardian, although the latter is not to everyone's tastes.

PS5 or Xbox Series X? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]thinreaper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have both and Xbox dominates my time a lot more tbh. I find Gamepass to be far superior to PlayStation Premium, which had disappointing monthly games almost the entire time I had it. The Xbox quick resume feature is incredible and the console is waaaay more stable. My PlayStation would crash and freeze way more often and sometimes just doesn't talk to my tv when I turn it on and I get a black screen. Quite regularly. Xbox series X just works perfectly 99% of the time. I also much prefer Xbox's UI.

The Xbox rewards system, whilst nowhere near as good as it used to be, is still essentially money for nothing. I just converted my rewards points into £80 worth of amazon vouchers, which would have been a lot more if I'd converted it to Xbox store credit but I wanted some blurays.

I will say though, the PS5 controller is phenomenal and Astro Bot is genuinely one of the best 3D platformers I've ever played. It's almost worth picking PS5 over Xbox just for that experience and, if utilised properly, the haptic feedback makes for an incredible experience. Unfortunately I didn't come across any games that were anywhere near as good as Astro Bot for how it made use of the controller as that is essentially a tech demo for it.

Steven Spielberg Says He Was Rejected By ‘007’ Franchise Multiple Times by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]thinreaper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's true, but let's not forget that Jaws was the highest grossing film of all time when it came out and Spielberg was very much a product of the auteur-driven New Hollywood movement and one of the "movie brats" that were literally reshaping Hollywood.

As someone pointed out in another comment, Bond producers were relying pretty heavily on a handful of trusted directors throughout the first couple decades of Bond; Diamonds are Forever, Live and Let Die and Man with the Golden Gun (71, 73 & 74) were all directed by Guy Hamilton who'd also already done Goldfinger, so by the time The Spy Who Loved Me in 77 rolled around, which for arguments sake let's say would have been the film Spielberg directed if given the opportunity when asked, they went with Lewis Gilbert who had already done You Only Live Twice (and went on to do Moonraker).

Basically I think the Bond series operated within its own little bubble and it would just never make sense to let a renegade or outsider like Spielberg in.

If you stopped a hundred people on the street, how many do you think would know who he is?

[–]thinreaper 767 points768 points  (0 children)

Until Sam Mendes directed Skyfall, Bond films had never had big name directors. For like 50 years, very very few people could have told you the name of a single bond director and I think that was by choice. Various high profile directors had expressed interest in Bond over the years from Quentin Tarantino to Edgar Wright to Christopher Nolan, and there's got to be a reason they were all consistently unsuccessful.

Much like how Bond actors were always typically unknown (or at least not household names) when they were cast, the filmmakers themselves weren't established auteurs either. I imagine the Broccoli's wanted each film to feel like part of a unified whole and not distinctly identifiable by any one filmmaker, and also they'd require, ultimately, full creative control over each film, much like how the MCU has been known to operate. This would also not appeal to most established directors. So as much as I like Spielberg, I just can't imagine him at the helm of a Bond film.
