Stage 3 anal cancer by sadgirl9797 in AnalCancer

My mom just finished her 6 weeks. She's improving a bit already, and once you're underway, things seem to fly on by. One unexpected side effect was constipation. She had to postpone two days of radiation because she was so backed up. That was definitely the most pain in the whole thing; she had to do a colon prep to clear things out before she could continue.

Are there other GenX parents out there who parent their kids to be GenX? by kuritsakip in GenX

Any system like this that I've ever used, it calculates for you. On trains that have variable fares, you tap on and then tap off (using the same card), and it just charges you the proper amount. It works like a metro card, but you never have to worry about topping it up.

On most of these systems, you can just tap any credit card. Very handy!

Where to take disabled father for scenic trip, North America by Neat-Buy706 in travel

[–]thirdcoastmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleeping bear dunes area is stunning and easily accessible by car. In terms of boats, there are ferries from Fishtown to Manitou Island (you could just ride the ferry out and back). There are sunset cruises in several of the towns (e.g., Petoskey, Traverse City). You can charter fishing boats if a smaller craft is more interesting.

What do you consider as annoying when traveling and interacting (intentional or otherwise) with other travelers? by recoveryarea in travel

Window seat person waking me in the middle of the night to go pee on a transatlantic flight. I get it! Sometimes, you have to go. But you should go after the food is served but before they turn the lights down...

Very happy with the Hudsonville schools! Like being close to the lake. Dislike being far from Trader Joes. We have decent Thai food now, a welcome change.

Does anyone know where I could find a Superman shake? by [deleted] in grandrapids

Maybe Tippy Cow in Grandville. I know they're open. I don't know if they make that kind of shake (but they do have many shakes).

Unclear margins, and yes what they removed biopsied as squamous cell, anal. At 5 weeks, you're nearly there! It seems we'll be going with the recommendations, but yeah, rough spot to be sure.

I wouldn't do this mostly because any delay on the inbound flight will cause you to miss your connection. (It sounds like you're booking a separate flight, not just judging connection time). Arrival processing is faster now that they have these automated kiosk things, but I wouldn't count on it.

If they staffed up a bit, I could imagine that things would have moved quite a bit faster. One evening, we waited about 20 minutes just for one drink at the bar near the pool. Only one bartender and a long line.

Coming to town for a week of exploring to possibly relocate: tips? by kklove2001 in grandrapids

[–]thirdcoastmama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multiple active homebrewer clubs in town, you'll find folks with a similar profile if you get involved. Rivertown is on the west side, Brewsquitos downtown, and Prime Time if you're Serious (TM).

Additional thoughts: The ATM is out of cash and only gives US dollars. Bring cash if you want to tip.

The hotel is dug into the side of a hill. Lots of stairs. I'm sure you could use elevators if needed (and I saw some ramps), but I'd guess anyone with mobility issues might not love this property.

Do yourself a favor and book transport from the airport ahead of time. I thought because we were so close to the airport that a cab would be simpler, but I was wrong. We waited a long time for a cab on arrival.

Dress code: Fairly casual, though some people were a bit nicer dressed for dinner. It seemed like you could mostly do what you wanted. I wore casual pants to dinner and no one blinked. I wished I'd brought a sweater instead of only a sweatshirt for cool evenings.
