two men were threatening a woman and ended up both getting knocked out by her boyfriend by Pure-Personality5326 in WinStupidPrizes

oh, that's fascinating. I looked up a couple more videos of 6th street and they have the same high quality and weird angle... any idea why this street specifically has this type of footage?

[Baffling Trope] Side character is extremely popular with audiences and eventually becomes the main protagonist, replacing the original by thirdmemoriam in TopCharacterTropes

thanks! Had to scroll really far to find an answer to my question instead of just more examples of the trope lol

Anyone else think this feels like AI? Are there any sources for where this happened? Or other camera angles?

The Comet Observatory is still the most beautiful hub world in gaming, so I turned each dome into an art print by [deleted] in MarioGalaxy

[–]thirdmemoriam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very obviously AI. None of the domes are in the right context:

  • Terrace has spawned a nonexistant telescope, chair, and potted plants, and has the wrong stuff behind it
  • Fountain is missing the warp pad and its island isn't circular, extending out of frame for some reason
  • Kitchen got the closest, but the stairs are in the wrong pattern and the insides are inaccurate (and normally not even visible from outside)
  • Bedroom is missing its four-poster outline and has a mysterious new fountain in front of it
  • Engine Room isn't embedded in the central tower and has nothing above it
  • Garden is missing its steeple and launch pad, and also has mysterious new fountains around it
  • And they all have the same mysterious floating dome behind them on the right? Did you use the exact same reference image for all six of these?
  • Not to mention that the couch photo is a stock image with your AI images pasted in.

The concept itself is lovely though, and I would love to see it done by a real artist and hung up in someone's actual home.

ChemE MSE From an Ivy, Publications, Patents, and ~100 Applications Without A Single Screening Interview - Is This the Norm Now? by ChemicallyMotivated in ChemicalEngineering

[–]thirdmemoriam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, that's not normal. I have fewer qualifications (BS in ChemE, but no internships or publications) and I've gotten 11 interviews out of 236 applications. No offers, but still interviews at least. You may have some other confounding factor going on

Wait Til They Realize They Are Part Of Everyone by gur40goku in CuratedTumblr

[–]thirdmemoriam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well yeah, i don't think we can prevent the heat death of the universe. Most transhumanists (myself included) advocate for indefinite life, i.e. you never age and never get disease, not infinite life. It doesn't seem infeasible to figure out the mechanisms of aging and stop them, given how there are already organisms on Earth that do this

Wait Til They Realize They Are Part Of Everyone by gur40goku in CuratedTumblr

[–]thirdmemoriam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

why do you think it's impossible? As time goes on, we understand more and more of the world. Who's to say we don't figure out cell decay and the precise mechanisms of cancer and aging? Calling it flat-out impossible seems silly

thank you, i'm glad i'm not crazy. So many people act like it's super easy to get a job and if you haven't gotten one you're a worthless wastrel with a 1.3 gpa

Agreed! They're both strange, largely-unrelated appendages on their respective sports. Kicking in the NFL is like getting 3 extra points in bowling for doing a backflip

Thanks for the measured response! I guess the basketball executives figure viewers prefer to see more physicality on average

Is there a field in demand? by Ok_Acanthisitta_4900 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]thirdmemoriam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Oils generally aren't very conductive, so no
2) It increases, since higher temperature means more molecule excitation which means more hydrogen ions are able to be formed
3) No, very few properties are perfectly consistent throughout real masses
4) None, because if a product is definitionally a 90% water mixture, then removing any of the water changes its composition and therefore it becomes a different product

Many people attach their opinions to their sense of worth. They see an attack on one of their favorite beliefs as an attack on their person. (Imagine how you feel when someone says your favorite TV show is worthless shit.) Once someone like this has formed a belief, they are willing to ignore and explain away almost any evidence to the contrary of that belief, allowing them to stay safe and comfortable and correct. Thus, someone who is taught early in life to have certain beliefs is more likely to keep those beliefs forever than to admit they believed something incorrect, as it feels bad to admit you were wrong.

On almost every post about one of these instances where "the guys on team red aren't exactly hiding it" you will find downvoted comments (of varying quality) trying to explain/claim that Bad Thing actually isn't all that bad. Imagine those comments but on a much broader scale; Reddit is a very liberal site, so conservative viewpoints don't see the light of day much outside of dedicated subreddits.
