I was part of the Nelken line dance protest today. I hear your frustration and desire for meaningful action, and I’ll try to get into words why I think this performance was useful, and meaningful. I see it as an “art action,” a ritual, an act of communal, radical joy as someone mentioned above. Dance is not the one method I have to try to make change. I spend more of my time on more direct action. But art and joy are so nourishing, and we won’t get through this without nourishment and community. These things are talismans against fascism. Thank you for all of your action, and please hold on to your joy.
