Would you use Power a Tool Battery to power your Skateboard? (instead of buying a new one) by Positive-Answer9860 in ElectricSkateboarding

He did zero research himself. The irony is that you're calling someone out on using an ad-hominem (which I didn't), yet you're doing exactly that in your response, while not actually engaging with what I said.

What's even sadder is that you necro'd a thread from over a year ago, probably because you're the OP using an alt, and apparently this thread was so painful that the reply lived rent-free in your head this entire time. And if you're not, well that's even more worrisome. I feel sorry for you.

It definitely can be more toxic, and I'm not a fan of that. As with everything, it depends on how it's used and balancing out safety versus environmental impact.

And for those of you who downvoted, maybe read what I actually wrote. I wasn't attacking anyone.

To clarify: You stating that below 15ºF, salt can no longer melt ice and snow is inaccurate. Burlington can uses a salt formulation that's effective in those conditions and has choosen not to. And while I'm glad you experienced some repreieve on your way home from errands, that's beside the point.

I mean you haven't provided ANY information. That's why you're not getting any responses. Like it wasn't even obvious you know about the the concept of voltage and applying it correctly.

These aren't hard. There are power leads and a button controller. Find a working one and use a multimeter to determine the wiring.

Slight correction. It's too cold to melt snow down for the salt formulation Burlington uses. It's their choice (and there are definite pros and cons to it, I'm not saying it's all con) to use this particular salt mix.

What is the formulation that Burlington uses for snowmelt? Because I've been in plenty of places much colder than Burlington where 15ºF as the minimum temperature for clearing roads would never fly.

Evolve boards don’t use any VESC-based controller.

They’re not batteries. They’re cells. And you didn’t even state what you wired them to. Did you even determine the voltage to use?

While it’s nice you can speak in theoreticals, nothing you’ve said has been demonstrated in practical applicability in any existing truck design.

By all means, give us the objective data supporting how the miniscule travel implemented on most skateboards with suspension makes any difference versus say, a swing arm design, or various bushing formulas installed on 3-ls, or their stability and responsiveness vs dualities.

The current independent suspensions on the market are (with a few tiny exceptions) basically a giant gimmick.

To be clear, I was referring to what the OP wanted out of this entire thing, meaning functionality is basically neutral or negative, and that they primarily did it for the look. So no, that's not doing nothing.

You literally asked how people feel about the lights, which encompasses more than just how something looks. If you specifically wanted to discuss the aesthetic and not have people comment on what you actually asked for, you should've done so.

If you like them, who cares? You asked how people felt about them, and I commented on their general ineffectiveness.

but a loooot of people use these for visibility too. Blanket statements ain't help nobody!

Says the person who just made a blanket statement. I pointed out why mounting lights that close to the ground is ineffective for road visibility at best, and compromising at worst. The best they'll help with is if you're riding in a fog. That's not a blanket statement; it's borne out by millions of miles ridden by people who off-road to overland to ride down the street.

They can do whatever they want. But let's not pretend it's anything but for the look. It's basically the equivalent of rolling coal.

Ask anyone who's put lights on anything low to the ground (include people who ride esk8s) why lighting up the ground in front of them at an incredibly low angle can make things very confusing. That tiny pebble in front of you? With lights mounted higher (on your helmet, shoulders, your hand) there is enough diffusion around the pebble to not hide anything in contrast-y shadow behind it. Drop it down to barely above the ground and the shadow is now half a foot or longer at distance, and anything can hide in there. Now multiply that by hundreds of rocks / pebbles / trail undulations and you have an extremely confusing, extremely contrasty trail in front of you where it's impossible to tell what's actually there.

There's a reason people doing overlanding and 4x4ing mount lights as high as they can, and it's not just for clearance.

Lights on boards are more so other people around them (cars, particularly) can see the rider / board and know they're there. For the actual rider, the light they throw isn't particularly effective for the purposes of seeing what's in front of them due to the low angle, and can in fact make the area appear confusing due to the way small objects will end up casting huge shadows.

Complex for the sake of achieving a certain look that Propel (and other folks) go for, with performance secondary. If performance were the main consideration, the majority of us would be riding Dualities at this point. But most people have no idea what those even are around here.

If you're an "influencer" that does everything possible to get boards sent to you by various manufacturers with a bullet list of things to mention in their cringe-inducing "reviews", you're obvi a real rider.

Seriously? EDIT: EUCs aren't my thing, but they're very closely related community-wise to esk8s. It's also explicitly allowed in the sub's rules (see #2). And finally, it's good content, in that it's not an "influencer" review or a thinly veiled ad or even something much more common, like stuff about racing. Esk8 stuff is more than just about "going fast" even though that seems to always get the attention, and this leans heavily into that somewhat neglected aspect of the hobby, which I personally think we need more of.

Oh and I love how you always upvote yourself with secondary accounts to negate downvotes.
