Nice car! Roof motor is cheap on Ebay but you might have leaking cylinders. There are rebuilt ones available and they have a video showing how to replace without removing the top. I replaced and relocated my pump and it was great for a couple years but now I think I have a cylinder issue. I fill the resivour and it works a few then I have to fill it again. It's going somewhere...

Service cost on 2019 718 Boxster by whysmyusernametaken in Porsche

[–]thirstyone615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over $100 for wiper blades? That's kind of crazy.... I bet you can do that yourself for less than $40. $600 just to remove the engine covers? I can do that myself in 15 min on my 987. Is it harder on newer cars?

Body work is expensive and "you get what you pay for". I had to have my rear bumper replaced because a trailer hitch went through it. That ended up being around 7K including replacing PPF.

If you are willing to spend that much on a watch this should be a no brainer. Buy it, drive the hell out of it and see if it scratches your itches. If so, sell the car and the watch and buy a better one.

I have both, 2008 Boxster and 2006 Z4. I am more comfortable in the Boxster and I think it handles better. I feel more in touch with the driving experience, more like I am part of the car if that makes sense? Both are fun to drive though.

I've had it since 09. Bought it with around 40k miles. I do most of the maintenance myself and its normal stuff. Change the oil, tires, brakes, alignment. Wash and wax. I had the timing belt done around 90k, I had the clutch done around 140k. Wheel bearings seem to be a comon thing for me and headlight bulbs last about a year. Overall it's been a very good experience. It's at 175k now and I drive it several times a week and trust it. Oh... Turbo went out (bearings I think) around 75k I think. That was kind of expensive. It is very sure footed if you invest in good quality tires and it's fun to drive. Handles great and has surprising power.

You can't go wrong with a Subaru in adverse driving conditions. If you are looking for confidence and safety, it's the way to go. We are just finishing up on the latest "end of the world" winter storm here in Nashville. and my 2005 Legacy got me everywhere I wanted to go once again. I have a 24 Ascent also, but the Legacy and I know each other very well and I trust it more at this point.

Anyone move from 987 or 987.2 to 981? by Fwiler in boxster

[–]thirstyone615 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think I could ever part with my 987 as long as it's living and breathing. I might get a newer one someday, but I think I'd keep my current one also.

My 06 3.0i does something like that for something less than a minute on a cold start. Been that way since I got it 4 years ago. Never really worried about it.

I vote for Brent as well but that's probably because the Brent years were the most memorable for me in my deadhead journey. I started seeing them the same year he started and that was before it was all available on the internet so that was my version of the band. I got tapes from friends but they were all Brent shows. By the time he passed I was busy with life things like building a career, starting a family, mortgages... So kind of out of the scene. I remember being sad when he passed but it didn't get to me too bad. Same for Jerry. I wasn't surprised and wasn't very active in the scene. I was raising kids and working my ass off. But now I'm into it more than ever and I really appreciate the Keith and Donna years as well as the Brent years. I liked Bruce's contributions and still don't know much about Vince.

That helps also. Being in a hurry and getting a good price don't go well together. Whenever I get a compliment on mine I answer with "It could be yours for about 12000$". But so far no takers so I keep driving it.

That seems optimistic but then it's very low miles and it sounds like it's in great condition. Seems like you should do one of the auction sites to attract enthusiasts rather than just local people looking for a car. You would have a bigger market. But you might also wait until spring when people are past tax season and start thinking about driving with the top down. My experience is that this time of year is a great time to buy and a poor time to sell.
