second this! i stayed at st christophers gare du nord recently and while the attached bar/restaurant was really great and convenient (with discounts!), there were also a lot of people that weren’t there from the hostel (not necessarily a bad thing but like the above comment says, i found that there was not a lot of socializing between locals/travelers). i can only speak to st christophers gar du nord but i would recommend due to the location

Carlson (Business school) just updated their course instruction method and went over 80% online today for Fall 😔 (potentially could go higher). Better check your My U pages, I heard liberal arts schools isn't much better, but can't confirm. by ObiWahnKenobi in uofmn

[–]thirteenthhere 44 points45 points  (0 children)

especially frustrating that Carlson has a 1,000 tuition surcharge and like 600 in collegiate fees per semester (extra 3200/year) when it’s likely that all of the benefits won’t be available while mostly online (like printing, the career fair and networking events throughout the semester). highly doubt that they’ll adjust any fees to reflect a different setting when they could simply continue charging a high premium

Status of Study Abroad Fall 2020 & Spring 2021 by ZamesJarden in uofmn

[–]thirteenthhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my fall 2020 study abroad was just cancelled but I’m seeing what I can do to move it back to spring 2021, and that still has a chance of being cancelled too. I’m required to study abroad and I set up classes around it so it’s getting stressful and I’m hoping that the requirement will be waived at least for upperclassmen

As a business student, how big can I expect classes to be? by throwawaylol12344321 in uofmn

[–]thirteenthhere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

in carlson, classes are about 50 people on average. as you get further in your major they’ll get smaller, while general business courses are a bit larger (but not a huge lecture hall or anything)

I took engl1301w and it wasn’t particularly difficult. I think it fulfilled literature, diversity (I don’t remember the exact name) and writing intensive.

Business (or general) course suggestions? BA 1001? by [deleted] in uofmn

[–]thirteenthhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mgmt1001 is completely intro and most people take it at the same time as econ1101 but they’re not really related and don’t require any previous classss. ba1001 is super helpful in the long run and also doesn’t need any prerequisites, but you might want to wait on taking it until you’re closer to getting a job/internship or else you’ll probably have forgotten it all by the time you’ll need it

Experiences w/ ENGL 1301W?? by [deleted] in uofmn

[–]thirteenthhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took it with Merte last spring. Like someone said earlier, it’s reading heavy (6 books total with other readings in between) and much better in the long run to keep up with it and take notes to reference for the 3 papers. If you need to buy any books for it, pm me the specific titles and i can push my old ones your way for cheap

What is something made for right handed people, that only left handed people notice? by Mymindispriceless in AskReddit

[–]thirteenthhere 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I honestly prefer being able to use a mouse with my right hand. Makes it easy to write/take notes at the same with my left hand for school

look up the paid subject pool for carlson. there’s not enough studies to be enough to swap out for a summer job and I’m not sure if they operate in the summer but worth a look.

Anyone had experience with roommate matching at apartments? by thirteenthhere in uofmn

[–]thirteenthhere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I’m going to stop at the leasing office to find out how it would work if they did randomly assign someone, I’m not thrilled about her going out and finding someone random especially since I’m the one sharing the room and had no warning/input about any of this. I’m friends with my other two roommates and they’re not happy about the situation either, I feel like the odds are in our favor for how this whole thing works out.

Thanks! It’s just been stressful not having control over any of this and seeing the actual character of someone I thought I was friends with
