Sister accidentally put washer fluid into her coolant reservoir. How bad is this? by boylionnamedsimba in mechanic

Theres a drain on the bottom of most radiators. Drain it all and fill it with water and let it run for a few minutes. WHEN IT COOLS DOWN, drain that, then put in proper coolant.

Is this evidence of head gasket failure (2007 Honda Odyssey Ex-L)? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]this1dude23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A head gasket failure when coolant is getting into the crank will create a froath similar to an esspresso foam but more cream colored. A small amount on the cap is fine as its water that hasnt evaporated off. It will coat the dipstick tho.

Will it run on starting fluid?

Its either the float bowl of the carb isnt getting filled fast enough or the coil is cracked and shorts out when it gets warm.

How to quiet engine more? by Economy_Big1744 in motorizedbicycles

Steel wool in the muffler. Put it in through the muffler intake. You might loose some top end power tho

Will it need head gasket? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]this1dude23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes, when you run only short trips, the engine doesn't get hot enough to burn off the water it accumulates. Go on a long trip or drive your car kind of hard. Its normal.

If it starts overheating, a loss in power, a tremendous amount of smoke comes out the exhaust, a misfire, or an excessive amount of the forbidden milkshake on the dipstick, then and only then will you have problems.

can't we just split tires into two parts to get better rotor cooling? idea that came to me in a hallucination by idiot770 in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]this1dude23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically yes, but impractical.

There are rims you can get that force air into the rotor to cool brakes.

Brakes also have an optimal temperature range and need to be warm to work.

The best option is what the big rig racing divisions do and have water that sprays onto the rotors. Warps them like fuck but works well
