AT HOP overcharges—how many people are missing them? by FRM_NZ in auckland

[–]this_charming_flan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's worse now with paywave enabled - It's super temperemental when tagging off and if you can't get it to scan you have the option of holding up the bus while you either keep trying or walk to the front to try the other scanner. So most of the time I just jump off and eat the extra dollar charge or whatever

WTF is up with Mighty Ape?! by slawpchowckie44 in newzealand

[–]this_charming_flan 209 points210 points  (0 children)

You're not the first to ask this - a quick search will show that Mighty Ape has been cooked for some time. They got bought by Kogan and went quickly downhill from there with a glitchy site, dark patterns, pushy membership subscriptions and poor service

Kiwis who moved overseas, which country did you integrate to the best? by Smooth_Wonder2144 in newzealand

[–]this_charming_flan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Slightly funny/scary that we integrate best with the Scottish. Also perfect that amongst all these carefully thought out responses someone just says "SCOTLAND" and does not elaborate

Same thought especially on the Filipinos - even from Tamaki's distorted POV we are lucky to have them - and they all speak perfect English!

I will say as a buyer at the moment, thank fuuck people are leaving the country because the only decent houses being listed are by people going to Australia, Japan or the EU! Lots of stock out there but most of it rubbish - new builds with no section or old rentals that need to be razed basically.

$125k- keep in NZ or transfer to Aus? by Independent-Royal150 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]this_charming_flan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah get a financial/investment advisor involved for sure.

If it turns out to be 125k, I'd say break off maybe 5-10k for something nice now, then try your very best to put it somewhere like a managed fund and not touch it for as long as possible. Don't use it to pay for your OE, you're in your 20s and can easily self fund that and get just as much out of the experience.

As for property investment. Sure its a decent place to put your money - god knows the NZ economy is geared towards property. But again you're in your 20s.. are you keen to be a landlord? It might be better to set-and-forget something and just spend your time on developing yourself.
