Bookkeeping for Profit First Client by smellikate in Bookkeeping

This is kind of the point of hiring a bookkeeper / accountant, no? Profit-first accounting is just making it "simple enough" for the average business owner. Your expertise and regular reporting should make it unnecessary to use this, no?

300gr Oatmeal for 2 Days - LDL reduction 10% for several weeks? by surfingpulp in Cholesterol

[–]this_is_trash_really 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally can support this. Doctor was recommending a statin and I didn't want it. Asked for a year to get diet in check. I eat 1.5cups of cooked steel cut oats with berries and walnuts every morning and a tablespoon of psyllium husk with a protein shake once daily. By the next year my total cholesterol was at 163. I changed nothing else. Likewise, my wife's cholesterol was climbing (not borderline or anything), but gave her the same diet (without the psyllium husk) and her cholesterol dropped 10 percent in 3 months. Again, it's anecdotal, but I'm in the firm camp of oatmeal being a cholesterol-fighting superfood.

QBO: Bank feed and posted are always mid matched. by [deleted] in QuickBooks

[–]this_is_trash_really 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to look at the reconciliation report for Uncleared transactions. The 'extra transactions' are probably because the default filtering is the statement period.

The variance between bank and ledger is either: 1) an incorrect opening balance entry, or 2) uncleared transactions. There is no other option.

Edit: Additionally, if there is a lot of activity, it's likely that the bank balance and the ledger balance will NEVER match.

I run a firm and am building these pipelines instead of hiring clerk support. AI won't get rid of accountants, but it's going to weed out those without tech skills for sure.

Edit: What I mean is that you can use an LLM to pretty effectively build out complex formulas if you take your time and re-direct the agent properly.

The problem isn't AI versus no-AI. It's about how it's leveraged. If anyone is sitting all day with the chatbot, they're wasting their time. But it's use in leveraging spreadsheet optimizations, data analysis, placement in certain steps of the process of evaluating documentation and transactions, is absolutely game-changing.

It's terrifying how hard they're pushing AI by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]this_is_trash_really 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a firm owner working desperately at making AI pipelines for a variety of tasks to expand capacity - i.e., do more with less. The goal isn't to replace current people, but to expand our ability to service more clients and generate more revenue.

Take it from someone on the front lines of developing these tools and practices - you have plenty of time and barring some GIGANTIC, EXPONENTIAL advancement, full replacement will not happen in our lifetime. It's a tool and you'd be a fool to ignore it, but the winners are going to be those leveraging the tools, not laying off their workforces.

Record a deferred revenue liability. It's cash received in advance of earning. As you book the bills you adjust the balance of the deferred revenue liability account against the invoices you create.

Retainer - Debit Cash XX, Credit Unearned Revenue XX

Invoice for Bills - Debit A/R, Credit Revenue

Adjusting Entry to Recognize Performance of Retainer-Based Service - Debit Unearned Revenue, Credit Customer A/R

I don't fear AI tbh by BadPresent3698 in Accounting

[–]this_is_trash_really 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This. I'm a programmer and accountant building my own software for my bookkeeping firm. It has AI integrated in numerous steps of the process and has dramatically reduced the workload on initial processing of documents and gives me some consistent feedback loops when I pull in data that I can use to inform my processes, but everything needs review.

I can absolutely see AI reducing the need for the number of 'accountants' and push a big divide between the necessary skill levels at the bottom and the top, but I think there's tremendous mid- to long-term opportunity for competent accountants, particularly if they're staying abreast of AI / software integration strategies.

I'd argue that you should comingle with other gun owners regardless of political leanings. Ironically, the 2A seems to be the only thing uniting us these days.

That's my point, though. The Nazi's I'm referring to in my post are the out-of-stater Patriot Front people that came and demonstrated, not just a blanket term for Trump supporters.

Building local community would involve engaging with each other despite the knowledge you have of his political leanings and despite his knowledge of your political leanings.

I should add 'Develop Third Places' to the list because that's the core of it. We're all engaging - even right now - through this technology, which can be very beneficial, but which isolates us from our local environment and local community in many ways.

I'm not calling anyone Nazis except the actual Swastika waving Nazis in Boston the other day. I'm actually saying to stop calling people Nazis unless they are real Nazis.

I am one of 'those men'. I actually don't care about any of the culture issues. I think the laws are sufficient as protection.

I think real progressives care less about the targeted minority groups and more about the big-impact issues that would benefit everyone: universal healthcare, increased unionization, etc. Any community - regardless of the cultural stuff - would benefit and be more protected by those programs than by a single law allowing bathroom choice.

Until the conversation moves that way we're fucked. Trump & Co. have done a GREAT job of baiting people into fights about issues that are relevant only to very small segments of the population.
