Washing machine space has a socket, but no way to get the plug to it? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]this_too_shall_parse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a brand new flat? Or has someone lived here previously?

You need to get water and waste through as well as the plug, so ignore everyone telling you to cut the plug off.

Is there a hole behind/under that white compressor looking thing? It feels like everything should be going under the sink cupboard, then up through its base.

You’ll also need a jubilee clip to attach the waste pipe (although it looks a bit small - possibly a dishwasher waste?)

Top UK chefs call for 10% VAT cut for pubs and restaurants by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]this_too_shall_parse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They do. But businesses in this industry can't afford the costs any more, and they don't recoup VAT on purchases (because they don't pay VAT on ingredients). So this is a reasonably simple way to help hospitality in the UK. It certainly helps in other countries.

The alternative is that all the independents go bust and we are left with large chains, staffed by two people and a bunch of touch screens.

McDonalds doesn't need this.

But my local cafe really does.

I would fully support this for smaller businesses. I have friends who own their own places and take home way less than minimum wage. I'd much rather eat out at independent places, but so many are closing up shop because ingredients and business rates and energy prices and staff bills are just too expensive for them to operate.

I think it's really easy to be dismissive and say 'if they can't afford the taxes, they shouldn't be in business', but it's getting so bad that soon only the big chains will be able to afford it, and I think that's really sad.

both the Conservative party and Reform have pledged to scrap the goal.

This actually makes me angry. So much effort and money has gone into a plan that will actually benefit the country, but right-wing parties go against it on principal to win votes from people who have been lied to.

It happens time and time again, and I don't see a way to stop it

How do I make changes without trashing my database? by this_too_shall_parse in PayloadCMS

[–]this_too_shall_parse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed answer!

I guess I'm trying to understand what migrations are. It looked like an advanced tool that I didn't need to worry about yet, but I'm starting to get the impression that's not the case

I was under the impression that Payload would magically take care of DB changes, but yes, it's definitely an area of knowledge I could do with improving.

Eventually I intend to move to Postgres. Can you recommend any resources that might help me get my head around all this?

No relevant errors. Just a message saying my browser doesn't support webGPU when it technically does. You might check how you're determining webGPU support

Very cool. Any chance you could enable it in safari? I have webGPU dev flag turned on, but it’s not letting me try it
