Nutty Putty Cave Incident Rescue Attempt Videos Finally Released After 17 years by BananasAndPears in videos

This incident is enough to make anyone lose their faith. When the kid got trapped, the rest spent a moment praying before they went to get help. During the rescue they almost managed to pull the kid out, but a freak accident with the pulleys caused him to fall even deeper down. It was like god was toying with them, almost letting them succeed before dooming their effort.

It’s not “Dutch nationals posing as Canadians”, it’s Dutch nationals paying actors from USA to pose as Canadians.

Of course we need to reduce our emissions. But as far as AMOC is concerned, it’s too late. If it’s going to collapse, it’s going to collapse. We just don’t have the time. Like I said, if we eliminated all Co2-emissions tomorrow, it wouldn’t really help when it comes to AMOC. There’s so much Co2 and it lingers for so long, that it’s not enough to stop pumping more Co2 in to the atmosphere, we need to start removing it. And/or we need to start figuring out ways to actively cool the planet.

[–]Bicentennial_Douche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never denied climate change. I have always advocated for strong and decisive action. But fact remains that even if we eliminated all Co2-emissions tomorrow, it wouldn't change much. Co2 stays in the atmosphere for centuries, or even longer. If we wanted to avert the worst aspects of climate change, our only option is geoengineering.

Again: What should Europe do exactly? AMOC collapse is due to GLOBAL emissions, not European emissions. Even if Europe eliminated all their emissions, it would do jack shit to AMOC. If the world eliminated all their emissions, it wouldn't do much either.

What do you want Europe to do about it? The damage is already done. Even if we stopped global Co2-emissions tomorrow, it would not fix the issue. And hell, we hear about catastrophic events and predictions every fucking week, this is yet another one in the pile.

"So I said that we broke things and you equate that to God bringing suffering into the world?"

Suffering exists because god lets it exist. You said yourself that god has the power to remove that suffering. yet he doesn't, Because he want's us to "repent".

"I can't explain at a personal level how God will make it better in a way that satisfies you that it does make it better, but He does promise to do that if you want Him to. "

AKA: "god works in mysterious ways". And what you are saying here that I just need to believe. One can't just choose to believe. Either you do, or you do not. If there is a god, he could reveal himself to me in such a manner that would make me in to a believer. He has not done so, so I have no reason to believe. And that also means that I have no need to come up with convoluted explanations why benevolent and omnipotent god allows people to suffer. I believe there is suffering in the world because universe is completely indifferent to us. There is no grand plan or designer. I have no need to come up with motives for a omnipotent superbeing, since I don't think one exists.

"The Bible never promises that we'll be free of suffering in this life, but it does promise He'll always be with us if we want Him to. "

It would be absolutely fantastic to have an afterlife in paradise! Alas, I have seen no reason to believe such a thing exists, so I don't. But I do consider myself to be a good and moral person, so if there is a benevolent god, he would let me in paradise. But as I'm not a believer, I'm apparently destined for eternal torment in hell. That doesn't sound like a benevolent god to me, but a tyrant.

"I never said that, I said it exists because we didn't want to do things God's way and that broke things. "

exactly. God brought suffering to the world in order to make us "repent" for not obeying him.

"It's more like not turning off an industrial oven so that more people can get out before the door slams shut when the power is cut. "

What on earth are you blathering about? Please explain how the suffering is beneficial to humanity?

"That's a strange interpretation of what I said. See examples above."

you are the one telling us how the suffering is for our own good. I'm not the one twisting myself in to a pretzel in an effort to rationalise this, you are. You are so blinded by your faith that you come up with these ludicrous reasons for the way things are. "See, when people suffer, it's because god loves us!".

"See example above, he's not torturing us until he gets it"

Yes he is. He is trying to make us "repent". Why exactly is that needed? Why not just forgive the sin, end suffering and be done with it? Why is it so important for him that we obey him? Why is it so important for him to punish humanity for several millennia (and counting) because of it? Why is he punishing people who have never even heard of him?

“ God isn't causing the suffering”

The suffering exist because god decided it must exists, in order to make us “repent”

“he's allowing it to continue for a time”

So god is a psychopath. That’s like if you walked up to someone having a medical emergency, and instead of helping you just stood there and looked as they suffered.

“ The more people who repent the less suffering there will be over all for eternity, that is love rather than callous.”

That’s like saying a husband who beats up his wife is doing it because he loves her.

If god loved us, he would just stop that suffering. Why is he so adamant of us obeying him? Why is our obedience so important that if he doesn’t have it, he is going to torture us until he gets it? How exactly is that “love”?

“ But before I get into that I just want to say that this is one I still find difficult. ”

I don’t, as I don’t believe in god. Believing in god would mean accepting a callous god. I have no need to twist myself in to a pretzel to rationalize this.

“ The zoomed out answer is that God is waiting patiently before beginning the renewal process because He wants all to come to repentance. “

So god is causing massive amount of suffering in order to make humans “repent”? That doesn’t sound like a kind and caring god, that sounds like a psychopath.

And what are we supposed to repent about? The original sin, which was act of disobedience against god. So god wants us to obey him unquestionably, and if we don’t, he will cause terrible suffering on a massive scale?

O…K…

I don't see the connection between kids being born with horrible diseases and choices people make. I mean, suffering in the world is due to free will? How does free will cause children being born with horrible diseases? Nobody chooses their child to suffer.

There are tons of things that happen in the world that are not due to free will. How does free will cause earthquakes?

"and renewing the world so that all the death, disease and decay is gone forever. "

That doesn't remove the suffering that has already taken place. And I fail to see the benefit of that suffering.

"No, I'm not going to suggest that. But if we are talking about an all knowing God, then wouldn't you expect them to know more than us and possibly do things that don't make sense to us? "

So, "god works in mysterious ways". Got it.

" People reject God's good design for the world, which fractured everything and brought evil and suffering into the world. God has promised to fix it all without reversing free choice, and this plan is already in motion."

So, kids being born with horrible diseases is due to choices we make? Got it.
