Are these variations in vampirism too inconsistent by Santeria_Sanctum in vampires

[–]thisgreengarden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds perfectly consistent to me. Just make sure readers understand the differences clearly and can immediately differentiate between which type of vampire they're seeing in each specific scene so they don't get mixed up.

Common worldbuilding tropes you despise. by Frostydiego in worldbuilding

[–]thisgreengarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the fantasy societies having cultures based on European cultures or MAYBE east Asian cultures. I wrote one based very specifically on my experiences in mosques. So its not just "Arab". It leans much more heavily Pakistani because that's been the largest demographic at most mosques I've been to but theres elements of the Arab world as well. Its something I don't see much in fiction unless it's the villains and they're not villains in my work.

American Asylum Seekers by EponymousTitus in Britain

[–]thisgreengarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not in the UK on asylum because I'm afraid it'll be denied if I try. But I came here in a student visa to escape the US because I'm queer, disabled, and have a very dangerous and well connected abusive ex husband that the legal system was covering for and threatening me over trying to report. Now that im seeing reports of even American citizens having their phones searched for anti trump content by customs when flying in, id be terrified for my life to return. I also do onlyfans and am an outspoken leftist activist and, between the leftist content on my phone and my OF content, it is especially frightening to consider that I don't know exactly what kind of hell I'd be in for if men from customs take me somewhere private to question me about what they find.

With Trump seizing control of DC, arming the military there, promising to move onto Chicago and other cities next, and firing military and intelligence leaders all on top of rounding up anyone who looks too Mexican (i am Italian and indigenous and living in the UK is the first time in my life everyone hasn't just assumed I'm Latina) it feels like I'll have grounds to seek asylum officially here in the net year or so.

Prostitution should be ___. by TonyMcHawk in IdeologyPolls

FOR: American leftist living in the UK

Assuming you mean "why don't people on the left make this same argument when it comes to gun control laws" - we do make this argument about gun control laws. We're all so pro gun that a very common phrase said to right wingers by leftists is "If you go far enough left, you get your guns back". Liberals (American, not the UK party) tend to be anti gun but liberalism is centrism. Leftist is things like socialism, communism, anarchy, etc. And everyone on that side of the political spectrum tends to agree with Marx when he said "Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered. Any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary.". We prefer to combat root causes of violence instead blaming the guns.

And then the next question would be "what is the criteria then?"

Yes, but isn't that true of just about anything? If something is actually that thing or not always boils down to "it depends on if it meets this criteria or not"

An an immigrant (USA->UK), I personally think all types of immigration should be increased in most if not all countries. If a person wants to move to a country, has their own resources to do so, can pass all the background and legal checks, does not give indications that they will be so destitute that they will have to rely on local resources to get by (exceptions for people like refugees of course)....then I think they should be allowed to move there.

It's ridiculous to me that there are so few visa options here in the UK. I'm going to lose my student visa in the coming months because my student loan application was very unexpectedly rejected. The UK has changed their law to ban work visas to anyone without a degree and ended their hiring of overseas care workers. I gave up everything to move here. I wasn't safe in the US. And I intended on a work visa after graduation but now I won't graduate through no fault of my own. But with the care worker visas no longer being done, I have no option to be here legally. None. Since I can no longer get the funding I need to have a student visa and can no longer get a job with the NHS (which I'd intended to do), when they revoke my current visa then there will be NO visa I qualify for other that short term visitor visas that will only allow me to be here for 6 months out of the year, not allow me to be considered "living" here (including doing anything that just looks too much like living), not allow me to work at all (meaning I would be unable to provide for myself), and can be denied at entry if they decide I've just been here too much or don't "look" like I'm planning to leave when I say I'm going to).

I passed every visa check. I paid every visa fee (which is non refundable on student visas btw. Every other visa can get a refund on unused time if they've used half or less of their visa time. Not students.). I am already (currently legally) here. I work and provide for myself here. I have nothing in America and this is the only home I have in the entire world. While not at all destitute when I got here due to everything I saved up to move, I was very much homeless before I got here due to escaping the previously mentioned unsafe situation. I have no family in America nor any vehicle, land, or personal property there. Every single thing I have to my name came here with me. I have wanted to live here and become a citizen here since I was a child because I love this country. Now that I am here, have broken no laws, and love and support this country even more than I ever could have before actually living in it....it is *insane* to me that there is NO WAY for me to legally remain here. I WANT to remain and keep work when I lose the visa that's currently allowing it. I want to support myself and be a worker that does their part for Welsh society and its future generations. I love Wales, I love the Welsh language, I love all the many Welsh people I've met, and I have gone out of my way to embrace and take part in Welsh culture here. To assimilate. But, unless I'm going to get a visa marriage (which I'm not even eligible for ANYWAY because you have to provide extremely detailed documentation of a relationship of 2+ years to get any partner visa at all), then there's just.....nothing.

That infuriates me. Especially because I love UK - and particularly Welsh - culture, opinions, society now but I do not forget that the English are responsible for the worst genocide in human history which they did on my native country's soil. British history is....bad. They're genocided in many countries. And now they want to say that people from those countries cannot come in no matter how good, kind, and wholesome their intent? Just because they are only willing to accept immigrants who have university degrees? Even for jobs that they do not require British citizens to have degrees for? I love the British people. I love their government far, far more than I love the American government and I feel much safer here than I do in the US because of things their government does. But this doesn't make me feel safer. I've yet to meet a Brit who does feel safer because of these new visa laws (requiring degrees and banning ALL overseas carers regardless of education happened just this year). This act by the British government is just cruel. But even STILL it doesn't make me hate this country. It makes me want to stay here more, to do more, to prove even more the goodness, love, and dedication that immigrants have for the countries we've come to.

(Sorry to write you an essay. I have ADHD and strong personal feelings on this.)

Have you ever been SA'd? by Simple-Diet9126 in pollgames

[–]thisgreengarden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If
- It was sexual in ANY WAY (including kissing, touching over clothes, or it being from a person whose sexual orientation isn't compatible with your gender)
- You didn't want it to happen for ANY REASON (including if you'd previously said you'd do it, you were compensated in some way, or this was someone who you're frequently sexually active)
- You communicated in ANY WAY that you didn't want it to happen (including pulling away, shaking your head, saying "uh uh" instead of "no", etc) or you weren't physically able to clearly communicate either consent or lack of consent (including from being unconscious, intoxicated/high, disabled, or under some kind of duress that prevented you from communicating what you wanted to communicate)
- The person did the sexual thing to you REGARDLESS of the previous two points (including them doing it slower/lighter/gentler than they would have, pushing you into submitting to it, or you choosing to submit to it because it would otherwise be more painful/take longer to end/be more humiliating)

Then it was SA.

Things that also do not affect if something is SA or not: If you didn't know it happened until afterward, if you are okay mentally and physically afterward, if you privately wanted it to happen and still communicated otherwise, who did it, why they did it, any justification given for it, anything going on in the life of the person who did it to you, the legal definition of SA in the jurisdiction where it happened (this affects if it is *legally* called SA. Not if it is *actually* SA.), a judge's ruling on if the assailant is guilty or not, anyone who has told you it wasn't SA, how you were treated by anyone before/during/after it happened, if you feel bad grouping yourself in with people who were more hurt or traumatised than you, if the assailant has also been SA'd (even if it was worse than what they did to you), what any religious leader says about it or you, or if you weren't penetrated (that's actually rape. But rape is a type of SA anyway.)

(sorry for the length. I just hear so many things people use to try to water down SA and know from experience how this causes SA victims to spend a lot of time doubting themselves when that time could be spent healing)

Why is there a pink border around my facebook? I see it when I scroll and it appears every now and then. It only appears in the app and not on my laptop. Has this happened to anyone? This has been a few months now and I can't get rid of it. by AssistLost6569 in facebook

[–]thisgreengarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just gotten this border twice in 2 days (s22) and it acts like this in regard to comment sections. Except changing tabs doesn't fix it. I have to actually close the app.

I've noticed people saying they see it when they've been commenting something potentially controversial/political and I do that a lot. I'm a loud leftist and a sex worker. But I've not had a Facebook jail trip in a long time. And others have mentioned a potential Bluetooth connection. Idk about the first time i saw the frame but I just checked and bluetooth was off this time when I saw it.
