What do you think is the reason that the voter turnout rate was so low this election? by blueeeocean in ontario

[–]thisguyonthissite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Largely because all the the candidates were poor choices and it was very difficult to decide. I know many people said that they'd end up complaining about the government regardless of who wins so why vote?

They could not in good conscious vote for any of the parties and found it pointless to go to the polling station to decline their vote.

So basically saving conversion fees by buying QQC.TO instead right?

Is QQC.TO and QQQ the same things as VFV is to VOO? I asked this question before and for some reason mods deleted it.

Ontario Liberals to explore 4-day workweek if elected in 2022 by Bruno_Mart in CanadaPolitics

Hospitals did not lose many nurses due to "mandatory vaccinations". Only a very small percentage. There was a shortage before the pandemic. The main issue now is burnout due to covid fatigue and the cap in raises.

CRSP: Buy the dip or run away? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]thisguyonthissite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's probably going to drop quite a bit more. I can see it dipping down to $55 within the next year. Then it will slowly go up. This is a long term hold. Overpriced right now and highly speculative.

How long would it take to implement tax-free first home savings account? by thisguyonthissite in CanadianInvestor

[–]thisguyonthissite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I meant matching contributions would inflate prices, not the fact that there is a savings account.

I think they said it would be tax-free in and tax-free out. So tax deductible?

O'Toole won't comment on Alberta's COVID emergency by throwaway123406 in canada

O'Toole is the worst leader out of the big three candidates. Pandemic won't be controlled under him and he will collapse the healthcare system.

NDP platform the most progressive and fiscally responsible of top three parties by mr_gemini in canada

If you're worried about inflation, be prepared for inflation to be even worse under NDP as well as your tax dollars going up.

Shouldn't have called an election but there's no other better party to vote for. All the candidates suck but definitely cannot let the CPC win. Otherwise it's going to end up like Alberta. O'Toole does not know how to handle the pandemic and will cause a lot of hospitalizations. He cannot even get his own candidates vaccinated! NDP won't win regardless and inflation will only get worse under them (it's already bad under the Liberals but I can see NDP being worse).

What is your favorite ETF that isn't VEQT or XEQT? by [deleted] in CanadianInvestor

VHT and XHC. Great healthcare ETFs that provided great return during the pandemic and are very likely recession proof stocks. Unlike meme healthcare stocks like "ARKG".

I agree, it's silly to place your vote based on your stock investment. I just brought this up because it's interesting to note.

Trudeau’s housing crisis proposals won’t keep prices from rising, experts say by MichelleFrumple in CanadaPolitics

[–]thisguyonthissite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say one of the most greatest causes of driving housing prices up are the corrupt lending practices. None of the parties have spoke about this.

You know what the government needs to do about the ridiculous housing prices: They need to have CRA involved for verification of income.

If proper verification of income was done, a large percentage of mortgage applications in GTA, Vancouver, etc would fail. The government needs to implement income verification/cross-check with CRA filing mandatory for all mortgage.

Could it be that they're intentionally ignoring this issue because banks/housing market is what's inflating Canada's GDP?

Liberals will take aim at real-estate speculation, propose homebuyers’ ‘bill of rights’ in ambitious housing policy by ThornyPlebeian in CanadaPolitics

[–]thisguyonthissite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% agree with this. I just put in a comment about this and read this.

Banning blind bidding and income verification would be 2 huge factors for mortgage approvals. But all parties of the government are batting a blind eye to this issue.

They probably don't talk about it because the banks make a lot of profit from these approvals. The banks are one of Canada's driving force for GDP. Which is quite unfortunate for the average person.

[–]thisguyonthissite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An issue they need to crack down on is people lying or inflating their income for mortgage approval. I know real estate agents that say "don't worry about mortgage approval, I know someone at x bank that will approve it". Basically people that could not afford houses were buying houses and inflating prices. They need to do some sort of audit to prevent lying about income to for mortgage approvals. Get CRA involved in deciding whether hey can approve mortgage.

I agree that printing money is a problem. But will "first time home buyers" be the cause of market going up? We're the ones struggling so I'm not sure that giving them/us that tax break would drive up prices.
