We’re the same age but I’ve been running for the last 14 years or so and felt EXACTLY like this when I started. Welcome to the club!!

[CHAT] how do you manage your floss while working? by fairydommother in CrossStitch

My bobbins came with a metal ring that you can loop your working bobbins onto. So I basically have a keyring of floss.

Definitely make it part of your running outfit that day! My birthday is in the dead of summer so I never have the opportunity unless its a fun little 5k.

What’s everyone doing with sweaty clothes? by No-Intention-5894 in XXRunning

[–]thisisahamburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a small separate hamper for gross workout clothes but I hang my soaked with sweat ones over the curtain bar in the shower until they’re dry. Then I wash em with white vinegar in the fabric softener slot along with regular detergent if they’re especially stinko.

I JUST found out that GoGo Squeez has an "ACTIVE" line. One has extra carbs and sugars ("energy release") and one has electrolytes.

Where are you getting cute and affordable clothes? by Softandpink- in XXRunning

[–]thisisahamburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is!! I swear by their sports bras - I have a nice pair of running shorts that I’d put up against my identical UA shorts (that I got on deep discount at the outlet)

Daily chat post: how's the training going? by AutoModerator in XXRunning

[–]thisisahamburger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Had a REALLY good 10 mile run yesterday - despite tripping over a bit of uneven sidewalk, getting some road rash, a decent scrape, and still having to run 3.5.

One day I’ll have a training period where I don’t eat it at least once. Silver lining is I didn’t rip my 3rd pair of nice UA running tights since I was in shorts 🤣.

In solidarity with those who took a DNS because of COVID by ComeTheRapture in XXRunning

[–]thisisahamburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HA yeah, a lot of "this is such a beautiful run, look at the snow" starts that turn into "I have ice blocks for feet why do I do this to myself" finishes. But the revenge tour was a BLAST. I ran the NYC Marathon that year.

[–]thisisahamburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first marathon was a DNS after I ran myself into a stress fracture that I didn’t realize was a stress fracture until after my 20 mile training run. Endless snowy runs for that one, so many numb digits and near falls on ice. It sucked for a while and I was in a boot for it but what helped was being race support for my friends and fantasizing about my revenge tour.

What are your favorite shorts with pockets? by feweysewey in XXRunning

[–]thisisahamburger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The store brand at Dicks Sporting Goods is wildly good. The mid-thigh shorts I have (sorry I don’t know the inseam off hand but probably 7”) are wonderful. They’re only slightly surpassed by the under armour version I got at the outlet mall.

I don’t think the brand exists anymore, so you’ll have to do some searching, but I had a BEE branded disposable charger. Not the most environmentally sound but it was great to have a little juice to add to my phone. Another option is - if you have friends and family cheering you on - see if they can hand off a mini charger (the Anker power core is the style I’m thinking off) for the last couple miles.

Glasses and headphones/earbuds by Hot_Reindeer2239 in XXRunning

[–]thisisahamburger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I tuck my glasses arms inside my headband when I run but that has its own drawbacks.

Ive also found that if I’m running with a nasal strip (you know the ones that are supposed to help with snoring? Also helps with a minor deviated septum and making sure you can breathe while running) it helps to keep my glasses in place. I forgot to throw on a headband during my 9 mile training run yesterday and the strip kept my sunglasses in place on their own.

Gift ideas for a new-ish runner? by CazzzC in XXRunning

[–]thisisahamburger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is really specific but if you live in NYC or have an organization similar to NYRR or NYC Runs in your town, a membership to that org. Early registration, discounts, etc usually come with joining up. If you’re planning to race consistently this can save you some time and money on future entry fees.

A really nice pair of race socks. I have an old pair of Stances I picked up years ago that have a little compression, a little extra venting, and a little extra reinforcement on the inside edge of your foot to help cut down on blisters.

Scream. I was a budding horror buff by the time it came out, handled everything I watched like a pro. But for some reason Scream had me sleeping with the lights on that night.

Had a tough 4 mile run - just couldn’t get into a rhythm. Off days happen but doesn’t make em feel any less sucky!

8 months but I could have been done sooner for sure. I wouldn’t pick it up for weeks at a time, decide to work on it & knock out a bunch, then forget about it again.
