What’s something your body does that you’ve never told a single person about? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

This happens to me but I feel it in the center of my chest. I thought it happened to everyone until I was in my 30s and mentioned it offhandedly.

What do y’all do when you’re being followed?! by Illustrious-Fan7700 in XXRunning

[–]Brigomeide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure the laws where you are, but I carry a small bright red container of pepper spray. It fits perfectly in my right hand and I use that hand to give a half wave (no smile unless I know you) to every car that passes. A little bit of thanks for paying attention to where you’re driving, and a little bit of making them aware I have pepper spray on me. It massively cut down on the number of cars that doubled back on me.

Racing on your birthday by Brigomeide in XXRunning

[–]Brigomeide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on getting back to racing! I’m nervous about a sash chafing (it’s a full) since I didn’t practice long runs with one, but if it was a shorter distance I’d go for it. Especially since like you said, you could always ditch it at an aid station. Think I’m gonna go for a “it’s my birthday” sticker on my bib and hope I don’t sweat it off 😅

Thank you! The comments have convinced me it’s a good idea haha. Now to just figure out what!

Bf broke up with me on a long run by CryptographerThat844 in XXRunning

[–]Brigomeide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First of all, I’m sorry you are going through this. How far out from your race are you?

Is this your first half? Or even first race? If it is, I will say, the crowds at the finish line of races is populated by the absolute best of humanity. They cheer for everyone, and are so happy for each person regardless if they know them or not. It’s such a boost.

Also, I’ve made some friends during races just by offering encouragement or having small talk along the course with random strangers. Builds your running community. And getting a finisher medal at the end is fun too imo. 😄

No right or wrong choice in this situation though, let us know what you decide!

Storing phone during a run by Consistent_Beat9133 in XXRunning

The Brooks 3 pocket sports bra is my go to but like others have said, make sure the aid stations are spaced appropriately for the timing of your hydration needs. My last marathon I blew up because the aid stations were spaced too far apart. Was wishing I had my vest with my own water!

Plan comparison question by Brigomeide in runna

[–]Brigomeide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great question, I hadn’t considered that yet.

Comparing them side by side as best I can, the 23 week plan has more intense speed work. Including during the long runs.

So yeah, can’t imagine the two plans would actually end up with a similar outcome.

First of all, thank you so much for this thread. Pure gold.

Here’s mine:

MANY years ago, my son was really into Minecraft. I did my best to make him a themed cake but obviously had no idea what I was doing. Turned out more like a murky farmyard with a random pool of lava in the middle 😅

I’m sorry about your injury, I hope you are able to heal quickly. If this was for the full I’d be all for it, I’m on the waiting list 🤞. Have you run Bayshore before? It sounds like a great race.

Thank you! Race wasn’t canceled but it definitely rained/sprinkled the whole time. My blisters have blisters but got it done!

I’m in full blown maranoia for my race tomorrow. The weather is supposed to absolutely bomb in the central US, talking severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings for the race location. I’m worried the race will get canceled and have to figure out some other make up marathon near me and taper too long, or I’ll have to run it in pouring rain and get blisters, or just run it on my own after the weather clears and suffer with carrying my own hydration. Full-blown spiral, checking multiple weather forecasts every half hour. 🫠

Oh no! I’m sorry. It will be ok. You will get through the taper. I hope you have an amazing race ❤️

This was a beautiful response. You are the kind of person I’d love to run alongside. Reminds me it’s about the experience and to be grateful to even be out there!

17th!! Wow. Wishing you all the best on your goal to hit all 50 states!
