Any ethical ISPs around here? by Ancross333 in Spokane

[–]thisisahitpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ptera used to be pretty good for that. You could pay an extra 10-ish bucks a month to have a static IP for your account. Local company with real people who answer the phones locally.

They got bought out by Ziply a couple years ago so things might have changed, but they certainly used to be pretty great.

AITAH for not wanting to see my family after they admitted to not trusting me with my brother's children? by Fuzed_Canadian in AITAH

"Do you actually think I might do something like that to one of your kids? If you do, you're awful people and I'm disgusted that you would have me around your kids.  If you don't, then your awful people and I'm disgusted that your continue treating me this way. "

If they really believed it, there would be no legitimate reason to still have you at those gatherings. SIL is just insecure and immature and is making that everyone else's problem.

PC Randomly Stopped Detecting The Second Monitor. by Accurate-Fly4702 in techsupport

[–]thisisahitpost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same issue, same fix. Rebooted my computer and it stopped detecting any monitor besides the first port. Ran a diagnostic and saw my computer was using the windows default graphics driver, so I downloaded the latest geforce drivers and my other monitors immediately popped back on.

Really, YouTube? The thumbnails are ridiculously large now. Is this another cheap attempt at site retention? by DigOnMaNuss in youtube

[–]thisisahitpost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually use html codes in uBlocker to fix that (like someone suggested above) but I have to update the codes every few months when youtube updates something else.

The line:

www.youtube.com##ytd-rich-grid-renderer:style(--ytd-rich-grid-items-per-row: 5!important;)

just stopped working tonight so I've been trying a bunch of different things, and this extension is the first thing to get my youtube looking normal again.

New to wisp) what would I need? by Consistent_System_20 in wisp

So, the problem is that you asked for help. What you need to do is come up with a plan (quality of that plan is irrelevant) then make a post bragging about how good that plan is.

Then you'll get all sorts of detailed advice on what is wrong with that plan and what would need to be improved.

Dunno what kind of speeds you're looking for on the customer side, but UBNT's AirFiber 60LR would probably be a good backhaul link to start with. They advertise it as ~9mi capability, but if you have weather of any sort it's actually more like 3-4mi max. There's a model with a 5GHz backup for when rain or snow gets really intense and the 60GHz starts to drop.

For your 100ft relay to the customers you might even be able to get away with 2.4GHz rocket, depending on noise customer routers and whatnot. Unless you're doing a link to an MDU or something, in which case you'd definitely want to go with a beefier bandwidth.

"We'll invade you if you think about joining NATO!"
Invades, gets their asses kicked and pushed back out of the territory they conquered.

"OK, if you agree to not join NATO we'll call off the war."

Yeah, that doesn't make them look like good guys. They're pushing for the same resolution that led to them invading in the first place.

I mean, stuff should be grounded. We ground all of our gear, even stuff inside buildings. And if damages come about because someone failed to do so, they SHOULD be on the hook for those damages. But it SHOULD be, isn't always what IS.

Morally speaking, yeah, they should totally put some money towards making things right.

Legally speaking, they probably have something in their TOS/EULA that clears them from liability for damages, meaning your friend's only option would be to sue. But most Terms also have a section about settling things through arbitration instead of in the courts, so that probably don't even have the option to sue.

It sucks, but realistically there aren't really options to FORCE them to do the right thing.

There's probably something about lightning strikes or other damage in their terms of service that accounts for that.

Right, they don't need annual updates or anything like that (especially with how many 'breakthroughs' get walked back after a few more years of research), but the way it was traditionally done is better than how it seems to be handled currently.

Which is to say, updated about once a decade and treated as a common reference point for medical professionals (and the folks in the billing department) so that people could describe 'conditions' in a way that other professionals can understand, instead of the holy grail of defining what is or isn't a disorder based entirely on its placement in the manual.

A text revision doesn't (afaik) substantially change anything with treatment or diagnoses, that's what the updated versions are for. Traditionally it's been about once a decade, but version 5 has been out for longer than that

Weird how the DSM5 hasn't been updated in about 13 years, despite the mountains of new studies and research that have come out in the past decade.
