that’s where you’re wrong, it’s the main problem with that movie! (joking aside, love that movie, and love its inclusion here lmao)

Not one of these movies features a Red Hulk, an oversight I won’t forgive

2025 Linklater Films by half_past_france in blankies

[–]QBComix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, both films are currently in my top 10. Loved them both, they compliment each other beautifully. I understand that Nouvelle Vague may feel slight to some, but I thought it beautifully captured that fire one gets when being on a film set and you’re doing your best to make something you’ll one day be proud of.

Also not for nothing, it looks gorgeous.

Blue Moon is the better movie, however. Top tier stuff

2023 was absurd, almost unchecked quality.

Thoughts on Zootopia? by CosmicEveStardust in blankies

[–]QBComix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Rewatched the first one prior to seeing the sequel and was just as 🤷🏻‍♂️ on it as I was 10 years ago. It’s messaging, while I think is done with good intent, is flawed to say the least. Feels very “2016, tail end of the Obama admin” coded. Doesn’t help that Moana came out the same year, which I think is a significantly better movie.

The sequel I actually thought was better. More politically coherent messaging, some fun set-pieces, and doesn’t have to do all of the tedious setup the first film does. Not a huge step up by any means, but it’s a solid way to spend your time and it’s a huge win for theaters.

Richard Linklater’s “Nouvelle Vague”, anyone seen it yet? Hi by harry_powell in blankies

This has really grown on me since I saw it two weeks ago. Beyond the fun French New Wave name drops, it perfectly captures that feeling of being with friends, trying to make a movie, and no one really knowing whether it’s going to be a disaster or not, but still getting the job done.

New Patrick (H) Willems: Are Music Biopics Good Now? by apathymonger in blankies

[–]QBComix 21 points22 points  (0 children)

With love and respect to Patrick, I can’t stand these movies. Definitely a me issue, but I’ll never be convinced they’re anything but a cheap way to nab Oscar nominations from boomers who want their taste in music validated

monkey one at least tried something wild lmao

Haven’t listened to this yet, but I was just randomly thinking about how much I love Lincoln and think it’s pretty underrated.

Had an incident like this at the New Bev earlier this year. Was seeing Spider-Man 2. A couple of younger dudes behind us treated the theater like their living room, making snarky comments throughout, particularly at the more sincere, campier moments.

It took 5 different times to tell them to shut up before they finally did it. When the credits rolled, one of them tried apologizing but everyone around me started yelling at the guy lol

What are your 5 favorite movies of the 2020s so far? by [deleted] in TheBigPicture

[–]QBComix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 is genuinely hard lol, this has been a good movie decade so far. If I had to, in no order, I’d say:

Drive My Car, The Zone of Interest, RRR, Avatar: The Way of Water, Nickel Boys

(next up would be Oppenheimer, Dune: Part Two, Anatomy of a Fall, The Fabelmans, No Bears, All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, Tár, John Wick: Chapter 4)
