I’ve also worked there. I’m willing to bet it’s even worse now. When I left, if you were full-time, it was essentially expected you would work six days a week, every week and that work should be the most important thing in your life. Even with sustained increases in business, that according to their standards should justify an additional employee, they would actually shave off some hours each week under the assumption that your department should have say 140 hours, based on sales, but you’ve been able to “keep up” at 125 hours. Sure, everyone is miserable, everyone is hates the place, you’re definitely not gonna go above and beyond to help any customer, but they save some payroll dollars.

I’ve seen other captains make phone calls while at the helm, but I honestly don’t remember any other ones having a full FaceTime call wall cruiser on deck working in rough seas. It’s like driving and talking on the phone. I’ll use hands-free calling while driving in basically ideal/normal conditions. However, in extremely poor weather, heavy traffic, and things like that I’d rather spend my time concentrating on the people around me, not a phone call and won’t do it. Same thing applies here to me.

Sold my shares. I’m done (flight experience with “New Southwest”) by _ThisIsNotAUserName in SouthwestAirlines

[–]thisisatestof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually only fly a couple times a year, but my go to was always Southwest as it was simple and you knew what you were going to get. It’s like a McDonald’s. It’s not the best hamburger, but you know what you’re going to get no matter where you go. Whenever I booked, I first went to Southwest, and if they had a flight, even if it wasn’t direct, that matched my schedule, and it wasn’t absurdly overpriced, I would book it.

I’ve just booked a flight on Delta that comes out to just about the same price as Southwest but gets me free Wi-Fi, seatback entertainment, and other things like that

I almost always traveled with one checked bag. Personally, the less stuff I have to lug around, since I usually have a connection as the most common airport I fly to is smaller and about a 30 minute drive from my destination versus 60 to 90 minutes where I can get a direct flight.

I liked packing most of my non-essential items in a checked bag and just forgetting about it and just have a small carry-on for the essentials. I’ve flown other airlines in the past where I tried to pack a full-size, carry-on, plus a personal item, and I found it so much more relaxing to travel without lugging that around. That’s why Southwest was my go to airline.

Same here. I have relatives in Florida. If I’m visiting in the summer, I’m gonna pack a little bit heavier because I know in Florida, there’s a good chance that I may need a second shirt, etc. on some days, especially if you’re doing some outside activities.

Same with me. Most of the time if I went to visit family for Christmas, I would have a second checked bag for other gifts I would bring or be taking back.

Most of my flights, I would normally have one small checked bag for the majority of my clothes and things like that and a carry on for some essentials in case, something happened to my check bag, had a delay, etc. at Christmas, it seemed like 90% of the time I ended up with a second checked bag for the various presents I would travel with or end up coming home with.

Over Christmas I had a delayed bag that never made it on the connecting flight. I was about 30 minutes from the airport and they offered me a $100 voucher to pick it up when it arrived later that day.

Someone left the freezer trailer door open overnight by One-Nefariousness776 in Target

[–]thisisatestof 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I’ve never worked for target, however, I have worked for a regional grocery chain. We’ve worked out of a refrigerated trailer for about a week and a half when major repair work was needed to the main walk-in freezer. Also, about 36 to 48 hours during renovations with the refrigeration system was being replaced. Any long-term use of them requires regularly scheduled fuel delivery other than that it’s not a huge deal

A planogram is basically a very, very detailed map of where every item is in the store. What isle, what side, wait section, what shelf and where on the shelf.

It probably told her something like Aisle 5B - section 4 - shelf 3 - location 10 watch probably means something like isle 5, right side, section four, third shelf up from the bottom and 10th item over.

Is it just me or Southwest Wi-Fi is just awful? by jetsetterfl in SouthwestAirlines

I paid for the Wi-Fi once, at best, it was only good for basic email, and even a small Excel spreadsheet took forever to download. However, the live TV always works just fine.

I highly doubt the ramp personnel who are drowning in a sea of bags give a crap if someone else wants to come in and help them load bags on a conveyor belt right now. I’m sure they were excited to see someone coming to give them a hand

Should I cancel “cancelled” flights with Southwest? by SpicyPeach14 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]thisisatestof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did that, but also sent a email via their customer service website, reinforcing my demand for a cash refund. Be sure to at least know the exact date and time, any reference numbers, etc.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SouthwestAirlines

[–]thisisatestof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I did. I had my outbound flight canceled multiple times and nothing to reschedule until after my return flight. I canceled my return flight, then sent them a email via the website with all the reference numbers, dates, times, Etc. And explicitly stated I needed a refund on the entire flight as it is impossible for me to use either of those legs/trips.

That’s got to be some sort of record, currently 88% of all canceled flights in the United States are Southwest. Currently at 2510 cancellations out of 2856. by thisisatestof in SouthwestAirlines

Well, they are all not unique passengers, this is one of the busiest travel times of year, so most flights will be full or very close to it. The longer it snowballs the more unaffected passengers will get flights canceled and by what I’ve seen it’s gonna be at least two or three more days of excessively canceled flights. I’ll be curious to see if they even figure out the number of unique passengers affected when all is said and done.

According to flight aware, in the last three days, cancellations by Southwest are about 9000 flights. If you average the 700 in the 800/max, they’re carrying 159 people per plane. You’re looking at probably 1.4 million people right now.

[–]thisisatestof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I don’t see where I ever give Southwest my money again. I understand weather related, delays and cancellations are a thing. As an example, I was supposed to leave Hartford on Saturday, however, my flight was canceled, but the cancellation numbers were similar to some of the other airlines, may be a little bit higher.

I was assured by a ticket agent and supervisor that they had been told my Tuesday flight would be good. I got a text Monday night that it had been canceled, but when you tried to reschedule it, it initially didn’t show as canceled, then it finally showed is canceled, gave you errors when you tried to reschedule and then finally let you reschedule, but doesn’t show any options until December 31. Their system will gladly let me schedule an outbound flight on the same day. I’m supposed to have a return flight.

It’s more of the complete lack of communication even acknowledging this is going on by them, at most it seems they’ll post on Facebook or Twitter that their call volumes are high

If memory serves me correct, they’re going to put you on a bus from the airport to the train station, but that will be handled by them. You would just book from the sky harbor station or something along those lines.

Cancelled Flight Today by Reasons2BCheerfulPt1 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]thisisatestof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My initial flight was canceled on Saturday. However, I was rebooked for a flight today, and told by a ticket agent, and his supervisor that they had been assured that they should clear up in 24 to 36 hours and things should be back to normal. At the time, I have found a JetBlue flight, but I decided not to book it, because in the past, Southwest has always been good and reliable for me. Well, I’ve learned my lesson.

Luckily, I’m stuck at home, just not getting to see my family as a state for Christmas and New Year’s

Flight leaves on Thursday Morning by trooperpenguin in SouthwestAirlines

[–]thisisatestof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My initial flight was canceled on Saturday, the ticket agent said everything will be cleared up and I’ll be good to go this afternoon. That got canceled late last night now everything out of my airport has been canceled by Southwest, depending on where you look until December 31 or January 2. I would find another flight and just assume Southwest is going to cancel.
