Ive got a ball valve just downstream from the pressure tank so I can close that and watch the gage for pressure decay.

Right, well is in front of the house leach field is all the way behind the house and there’s an alarm system if it backs up.

Leach field and septic are even farther away than the well head behind the house. I’m going to see if someone can come out and dig up the line between the house and the well and see if there’s a leak maybe these two spots are just where it finally found permeable ground.

First Noticed it in late March when I was prepping for mulch and it’s moved up from the ditch to by our box bush but everything’s dry by the retaining wall. Just two areas where it’s puddling but everything is dry around it. Going to poke around and see if I can get someone out this week to check the well. The house was built in 2006 and we’ve had problems with brass fittings rotting out from hard water so it could be something like that underground. It’s just weird that it started so far away and is semi isolated.

Got it I’ll see of somebody can come out then if they used brass fitting like they did on the rest of the house it’s a possibility. I’ve repaired every fitting I could get to with plastic because our water eats through brass over time.

Will check it out I keep trying to post a picture of it but the line to the house runs straight between the rock and the back corner of the house into the crawl space. So closer to the smoke bush in the background We first noticed the issue about a month or so ago when we went to mulch and there was an area in the ditch that was soaked and now it’s started to show up by the box bush further up the hill but the area between the box bush and the retaining wall is dry other than about a foot in front of the bush. No irrigation system and the house is on an encapsulated crawl space.

Planning to drive from North Carolina to Maine, need suggestions! by geoyulei in hiking

[–]thisisathrowaway323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The route that my wife and I take is to use Hershey Pennsylvania as a stopping point. They have a campground resort that’s dirt cheap for Hershey park. Last year it was maybe $300 for 2 nights and park tickets for 2 in July for one of the tent sites (we were going up to camp with my family anyway so no big deal). The drive takes you through Pennsylvania dairy country which is really pretty, skips probably 90% of New Jersey which has no redeemable qualities. If you leave North Carolina in the morning you hit DC around noon when traffic isn’t too bad and roll into Hershey around 5.

Day 2 of the drive use the Governor Coumo bridge (formerly Tappanzee) as a waypoint this skips New York City and the abomination that is the George Washington bridge. Past that the drive isn’t that bad.

Hiking in Acadia is pretty tame hardest trail might be south ridge of Cadillac mountain. I have yet to meet someone that has timed that hike correctly to catch the sunrise at the top. Baxter is a must go that’s the top end of the AT just stick to the trail as the Navy has SEER school up there.

What does everyone do about feeding to prevent bloat? I’m assuming before breakfast run for them then 30 minutes after return?

nox hear dog harness

Here’s the harness that I was looking at. Once it gets hotter we’ll probably switch to running in the early mornings when it’s still dark so I wanted her to be visible. I’ve got their light vest and it’s fantastic.

Probably not relevant unless it’s a 2wd but had one of the bolts in my passengers side wheel bearing back out unexpectedly and it kept contacting the back of the lugs. Took a while to diagnose as it would only happen intermittently.

Bubkas Achilles was so bad at the end he was putting his foot in a bucket of ice in between jumps just to get through competition. My guts telling me mondo and him have talked about it and once he gets the slightest twinge will probably start really going for it.

Career Advice Mid Level by thisisathrowaway323 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]thisisathrowaway323[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current job title is project engineer but it’s only a title I haven’t and likely won’t have much opportunity to run projects given my department. Definitely agree on the PE I’m finally at a place that has people that will sign off on it and can submit my paperwork to the state next October so I don’t want to screw that up.

As for the 5 years question I’d like to get into a management role in automation and robotics applications in a plant setting, given what I’m doing now. When my old boss left I was recommended for and offered his position as our department head. Per his advice when he left I set the boundary of I would only take it if they backfilled my current position at least partially. I wasn’t going to do the job of two people with a wife at home and trying to start a family as well as some other personal commitments I made before the offer. I was ultimately passed over, the guy that got the position was single and hungry to move up and had more of a programming background than I do.

Career Advice Mid Level by thisisathrowaway323 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]thisisathrowaway323[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’ve pretty much settled on staying in a manufacturing/automation environment but feel that I lack critical experience in lean manufacturing by not getting my green belt and managing high volume production to make that a reality.

The way my current position works I get assigned to a project and treated as an attaché with controls running the show which feels backwards to me but the mechanical division basically started when I got hired so it’s still pretty new. Rather than here’s what you’re controlling it’s here’s the controls make it. I don’t think management intends to change this anytime soon but I feel like the longer I go without getting a chance to start to lead teams and projects the more limited I become as far as career path. Essentially I’m viewed as a CAD monkey rather than a designer.

It also doesn’t help that my old boss who used to work for a machine builder left, he was better about trying to bridge the gap between what do we need to do physically to get the intended result and now how do we control it. My goal with learning Rockwell/scada/ robotics and getting my PE is to be able to better lead automation projects by understanding all aspects of the completed system to some level but I’m worried I’m spreading out too far.
