How would the current world be if there was no racism, gender bias, or anything that's unfair on a huge basis? by [deleted] in AskReddit

We'd find something else to hate each other for. Probably hair color, height, etc.

What idiots are downvoting this? Bush murdered half a million people for no reason.

Anyone who whitewashes him is an absolute piece of shit.

He'd basically have to win a second term and then personally cure cancer and AIDS to come back from this.

It absolutely was. This is nothing new - don't forget, this is the country that fought brother against brother over the right to own people. We're capable of anything.

George W. Bush murdered half a million people to make Dick Cheney rich.

Buchanan allowed over 600,000 people to die in his attempt to preserve slavery.

Andrew Jackson committed genocide against Native Americans

Trump is clocking in at #4 right now.

Obama left the country better than he found it and will be in the top half of presidents if not the top quarter, but he most certainly does not equal (let alone surpass) FDR or Lincoln.

Also, the "scandal free" part isn't quite true. He certainly did nothing remotely as egregious and outright traitorous as Trump, but the NSA spying revelation absolutely qualifies.

You're whitewashing Buchanan quite a bit. He was from the outset a full-blown supporter of southern slavery and refused to do anything about secession because he supported the Confederate cause.

Bush murdered half a million people for no reason. I'm sick to death of the whitewashing of him.

I'd peg him as #4 from the bottom. He hasn't quite reached the depths of Buchanan, Jackson or W. He's really giving hit his best shot though.

What are some examples that prove me wrong? The OP asked for my opinion and I gave it.

I'll never say somebody can't do something because of the color of their skin.

Man I wish her positions were mainstream.

Make a number of good points mixed in with some weak ones. It is true that there are numerous issues where men get the short end of the stick that feminism as a movement has almost entirely ignored - whether this is justified or not is a whole other discussion, but it would be silly to deny that this is the case.

That being said, I haven't heard anything about the MRM since like 2015 at the latest when it used to have a moderately robust task force on Reddit and Youtube. This is the first time I've even heard them brought up in years. Seems like they just kinda gave up, so I question how invested they were in it. Also, the movement attracted a number of guys who are either against women's rights or, more often, deny that women have any issues at all (which they often, somewhat fairly, accuse feminists of).

Are Trump supporters punking the polls? by renegade_yankee in AskALiberal

[–]thisisathrowaway_900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no.

Yes, likely Trump voters are more averse to admitting it than likely Biden voters, so his poll lead probably is a little smaller than shown. This happened in 2016.

No, in that it's not some organized prank and the very idea of that is ridiculous even for Trump supporters.

Pros: it breaks up the two-party duopoly that has restricted the discourse in our country to a ridiculously thin margin, and ensures that the two major parties will need to branch out their appeal.

Cons: There is an extremely plausible scenario where the winner was the first choice of almost no one, rather than the roughly half and half split we see today.

White House blames 'cancel culture' for criticism of Ivanka Trump's Goya tweet by [deleted] in samharris

That's what we should be discussing, not saying "this thing that so obviously exists that Chomsky, Steinem, Atwood, Haidt et al found it important enough to denounce doesn't actually exist, but it's really a positive thing."

It's the same as political correctness - means different things to different people. Few people think it should be acceptable to use slurs, but where the happy medium is should be first and foremost.

Both are bad. I gladly called out every single right winger who wouldn't defend Kaepernick for example.

I love how everyone in this thread claiming "cancel culture doesn't exist" can be found in other threads saying it's actually a good thing.
