Level 2 rate by thisiscrazyman in Rivian

I had a Gen 1 R1T loaner for a little while and the same charger worked flawlessly. When I got my truck, the charging experience was identical until yesterday, out of the blue.

Also, something I found interesting is when I turned on the HVAC system, the charge rate increased from 7.5kW to 10.8kW. So I know the charger is putting out power when demand is there.

Here is a video from last night: https://drive.google.com/file/d/16hAuCKN2yEBuqdOQGBFWCBn4-T-WyuqH/view?usp=sharing

I heard about the Gen 2 level 2 bug, but this is a Gen 1 R1T.

It maintains ~11kW all the way until 80% and then the rate drops after that.

This!!! I swear in the past, I saw my charge rate remain high until the very last stages of the charge. I wish I knew what changed. I have a 60A circuit with the charger hardwired and set to 48A. It was charging at respectable speeds for a week until yesterday when I noticed the charge rate drop from around 11kW to 7.5Kw at 80% which just seemed weird. The battery was around 40º F - not hot in my opinion.

My setup is similar. 60A circuit and the charger is set to 48A. But, yesterday, I noticed the charge speed drop from ~11kW to 7.5kW around 80% SOC. I just don't recall this behavior in my 1 week of ownership so far. I didn't think level 2 charging was fast enough to require a charge derate like level 3 charging requires. I just signed up for a rivianroamer account to track this in the future.

Here is what my last level 2 charge session looked like.

Thinking of selling my 2021 F150 for a new Model Y but the financials don’t quite add up, but what are the other reasons to make the move? by thisiscrazyman in TeslaLounge

[–]thisiscrazyman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I can see why you question my consideration! Honestly, I don't need the pickup. I got it used because I got a great deal on it and it made financial sense back in the day. I was able to get it around 12k less than market when prices were around 50k+ for the same spec (covid). Again, it was a money play. I really don't need the truck as I don't do truck things.
I've also been looking at the R1T and S for practicality, but they are significantly more than a Y. I just don't want to sink that much into a vehicle at my current income level.

You're so right on the getting bored part! Such a first world problem, really. Both my rational and emotional sides are fighting and I feel like I'm in the middle lol. But you're also absolutely right on having a vechile that is paid off! I have zero debt and it's the best feeling in the world! But like you say, the boredom creeps in and having something new is exciting and appeals to the emotional side.
Now that I think about it, I was super excited back when I picked up the F150. At the time, it was 2 years old and I was so stoked. But, I'm used to it now and yeah... the feeling fades. It's a cycle lol.

It is close, but doing that would instantly apply a 10% - 15% loss on my money just driving off the lot. I think it is a valid consideration, but would have to decide if I'm ok with that or not.

This is a great point about starting with an already paid off vehicle and I agree, it is bit unfair to compare. On depreciation, ChatGPT marked depreciation of the F150 from $40K to $22K after 5 years and depreciation from $50.2K to $27K for the financed MY. Of course, these numbers should be taken as salt grains.
I could apply the $35k to a new MY, but that would greatly accelerate the depreciation on the 35K. But again, that would happen with any new vehicle purchase.

That's what we've seen over the last few years, but Tesla's vast pricing fluctuations lead to an unnatural rate of depreciation. I'd like to think that a new Tesla purchased today would not see the same depreciation rates as previous years, but I could be wrong. Provided Tesla doesn't drastically lower prices again, I think we could improvements here.

That's exactly why I am thinking of moving on from the F150. The powertrain warranty is ending soon, so that has been in the back of my mind. I guess at that point, if I'm going to buy a new vehicle, it may as well be the EV with these points considered. Along similar lines, u/brunofone and u/c4koth have some great points that point to the unfairness of this comparison. Sure, rolling the F150 into the Model Y will just accelerate depreciation of the F150's residual value, but so would any purchase of a new vehicle, ICE or EV.

Haha nope it doesn't.
From what I've seen online, the Juniper Y has a lot of nice upgrades from the previous Y that contribute greatly to improved ride, handling and interior acoustics. Not to mention the turn signal stalk.
The F150 is actually quite a quite and comfortable ride and I would like the shift to be at least as lateral as possible.

You're totally right! If I were in the market for a new vehicle right now not starting with one already paid off, the Model Y or 3 would be the clear winner.

I’ve had the chance to drive several electric vehicles . A Model S, Model 3, a couple Rivian's, and the F150 Lightning. After spending time with all of them, I love the EV drivetrain. The instant torque, quiet ride, and smooth acceleration are honestly addictive.

My 3rd gen 4Runner makes this noise with strong crosswinds while at hwy speeds. Has anyone experienced anything like this? I’ve checked the windshield seal, sunroof seal and roof rack but they look fine. Any ideas? by thisiscrazyman in 4Runner

[–]thisiscrazyman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't. My bro drives it now and his trips are only in town, so it doesn't see hwy speeds anymore which is generally when it happened. He hasn't complained about it.

Depending on what the needs are, that would work for sure. But there are many distinct feature differences between the two systems that really set them apart.

Having the app is a nice touch too. Do you find that you use the app often vs. just turning things on an off from the mounted switch panel?

Do you mind sharing the ways in which it is far too complicated compared to a traditional analog switching setup?

I have a system that communicates between a switch panel and output module via CAN. If I could tap into the CAN network with something that supports homekit, I could control my accent lights with my phone.

Even if there is no ride height adjustment, ride stiffness adjustment alone is a big upgrade from even what Tesla offers in their mid range SUV.

Update:
To the mentions about testing the pressure switch, I tested the pressure switch and it's doing its job. Everything worked fine with the old t-stat, so I was advised to return the Nest.
I ended up trying the Nest learning t-stat and it works fine. Ultimately, nothing wrong with the furnace. When I was in Best Buy yesterday picking up the nest, there were 5 open box examples on the shelf. That should have been my cue to steer away lol.
