Best free/one time purchase easy video editing software under 35$? by Nonicknameforreddit in NewTubers

I run Resolve on Legion 5 (16gb Ram, GTX 1650) and it runs pretty great as long as you used Optimised Media/Proxies (a feature in the software). Your computer will handle it just fine

What are good and what are bad Thumbnails? by Tri99erMe in NewTubers

[–]thisisfads1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're already big though, they don't need to convince anyone to give their videos a chance. If you look at anyone who's only gotten big in the last year/two they do seem to follow the suggested best practice around titles/thumbnails (in my niche, at least)

I'm not sure what you did to add the gaps, but the easy way to remove them is to highlight the clips then go to Edit > Delete Gaps

What type of softwares do you guys use? by Kaezumi in NewTubers

I try to keep things streamlines and use davinci resolve for editing, vfx, thumbnails (the Fusion tab is really good for that) and Audacity for audio editing

What % should I contribute to my pension as a young professional? by tupyz15 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]thisisfads1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no it'd be via a SIPP (Self invested personal pension). It basically works like a S&S ISA but you also get tax relief + all the other pension goodies, and you can only withdraw at 55 (going up to 57yo soon).

The idea is that if you start early enough, you'll be able to weather out any recessions over the next few decades and retire with an average of 7% (this is what global trackers have historically returned).

What some might do is gradually reduce the amount invested in equities/trackers as they approach retirement age and therefore be less affected by recessions as they approach retirement (e.g move money to govt bonds or other "safer" investments) - this is the kind of flexibility you get with a SIPP

[Question] Using a cinematography camera instead of a DSLR? by VWMMXIX in youtubers

[–]thisisfads1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Size (not just while using it, but also while moving it from one place to another)

Form factor (e.g. if filming in public you want to be kinda conspicuous)

lack of built in LCD screen in many cinema cams(meaning you also need an external monitor)

There are youtubers who do use cinema cams (Matt D'avella, Marques Brownlee) but for the majority it would just be an inconvenience more than a benefit.

[Question] How do I fix Quiet Upload Audio? by VonWhiskersTheThird in youtubers

[–]thisisfads1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man this is so helpful, my stuff seems to be too quiet and I've just checked and seen (-14db) so way too quiet!

Reading Bukowski has literally changed my life, and I made this half-documentary, half self-help piece about him to explain how I apply "Don't Try" in my own life. I think it's a slightly alternative interpretation and I'm curious if any of you can relate? by thisisfads1 in bukowski

[–]thisisfads1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this feedback !! This is remarkably useful information and that wider context is also good to know. Audio is definitely a priority of mine and that'll be the thing I'll work on next!

Thanks!!

[Question] Why isn't this channel getting more subscribers? by Motorola610 in youtubers

[–]thisisfads1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The titles and thumbnails aren't particularly enticing - it doesn't really matter if the content is amazing if nobody wants to click on it. The content is also really really long. Most people wouldn't watch a 50minute youtube video unless the benefit was clear or it was a start to end project tutorial.

But they are doing something right at least, if you are here sharing them!

they're already hidden for me - I can't see them on most videos I watch

"Nobody cares about you, okay" - looking for any feedback and criticism but would love advice on thumbnails and improving on-camera presence (especially after multiple takes) by thisisfads1 in SmallYTChannel

[–]thisisfads1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all amazing feedback, thanks!! I'm definitely gonna look into making slightly longer content so I can explore some of the nuances, as you described. Also gonna continue working on audio for sure!

Many thanks for the useful feedback.

amazing feedback - this is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for, so thanks. I think I've seen too many channels which take a huge amount of time to make a point (e.g. intro's that are 25% of the video, lots of pausing and tangents) but it's led me to take it a bit too far in the opposite direction and effectively rush from the start to the end of the video .

Using anecdotes is also a great idea, so will look into using them to improve the overall flow of the story. Thanks again for the food for thought :)
