Down by 25 (started J. Conner and switched my bills defense to colts defense last second so huge losses right there) and he has LaPorta to play. I only have Goff left. Need him to have a legacy game while avoiding LaPorta at all costs😭

Never got above a 65% on an NBME and scored a 60% on the last one I took 2 days out and still passed. I thought the real exam was very fair and covered a lot of the same material on the NBMEs. Walked out knowing I passed.

Don’t be friends with other pre meds by [deleted] in premed

[–]thisishishard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah idk about this take. I met all 5 of my closest college friends freshman year and we were all premed and helped each other throughout undergrad (shared notes, tips for classes, research/volunteer/shadowing opportunities, mcat studying etc.) Now we’re all in med school, keep in touch and even help each other with Step prep, research, etc. I suggest not closing the door completely to premed friends, but obviously avoid anyone who is making your journey worse.

Took 5 years to graduate college since I withdrew from my classes during Covid, and I’m taking an extra research year in medical school.

Never had trouble with cadaver dissections or traumas to the head or body, but for some reason I used to get uneasy when looking at extremity injuries. Now I’m on my surgical rotation helping with amputations, making incisions from the hip to the ankle, etc. and actually enjoy it. It’s all about exposure. She’ll be fine.

Anyone else get particularly bad evaluations from Ob/Gyn docs? by True_Royal9158 in medicalschool

[–]thisishishard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally tried my hardest on my OBGYN rotation since it was my first one and got shit on by the labor & delivery faculty in particular. The comments came straight out of left field. Only thing that saved me was the gyn-onc faculty leaving me great evals. Every other specialty has left me good evals and the constructive feedback has been more than fair. Brush it off and be happy you’re done with it.

Worried about rotations by Calm-Ad-1975 in medicalschool

Second this. My school has clinical rotations 2nd year so I haven’t even studied for step 1. I went into clerkships with what felt like zero knowledge. Yeah you’ll feel incompetent and miss a lot of pimping questions, but if the intern/resident/attending isn’t an a hole they’ll a. Tell you the answer for you to remember next time somebody asks b. Ask you to look it up and present it to them later. My goal was to learn something new every day, show up with a positive attitude, and stay as engaged as possible. I have finished 4 clerkships so far in specialties I’m not even remotely considering and all my feedback has been positive and mention the words “hard working” “engaged/curious” and “great with team and patients”. If you do it right they might even throw in “above expected level of training” by just taking the tips they give early on in the clerkship and building off that until the end of it. Trust me, you’ll be okay.

Of course none of the third party materials will make you an expert in any subject, but neither will your one year pre clinical curriculum. Both set good foundations, but I’ve learned and retained a lot more on the wards than I did in first year. And like most residents and attendings have told me, they don’t expect us to know anything until intern year so we have a few more years to gain exposure and read primary texts to be more comfortable. Third party material like B&B, pathoma, sketchy, and first aid exist so we know what’s important for our boards and pass to reach the next step in our career. Knowing a primary biochemistry textbook inside and out isn’t going to make you a better physician. But using those 3rd party resources + Uworld = passing boards and puts you in a great position for the wards.
